just got my car and I was looking at making some upgrades and wanted to know if you could tell a difference when you upgraded your exhaust. Seems like a pretty expensive upgrade if its not going to help that much then I'm going to look at doing something else.

Also, completly off this topic, but are the CSL trunks that come in Carbon Fiber able to be painted? I see them in the pictures on here and love the way they look but didn't know if there was a certain brand or material that you need to have it painted the same as the car.

exhaust isnt gonna make a very big performance difference.
even if you did headers, and all the other pipes the gains would be minimal.
aftermarket exhaust are usually much lighter, than there stock counterparts.
carbon fiber trunks can be painted, but in order to be done right the painter must know what he is doing. or else you will be able to see the weave through the paint.

A good set of headers will give you a +20ft-lbs at approx 3000rpm. An exahust is mostly for weight savings and sound.

The trunks can be leave with the CF visible or painted.

After I did my headers I noticed a pretty good gain. I picked up 19rwhp and it sounds sick as shit at WOT!!!!:evil2

i dynoed 325 whp, but then again i have every bolt on and a csl style intake. gains come from headers since US spec cars have the cats located there.

Do you have any good videos to hear the exhaust note?

I have an 01 M3 and the exhaust will be the first thing I do if I ever mod it.

wow, 325 is pretty good.......I have ebay headers and magnaflow with dinan intake & software but came to around 290whp....
I would probably go with DA in future but then its around 3-4 days of turnover time....and I need my car everyday....:)
