I was pretty surprised to see an early M5 at the C&C yesterday. My Pop had an 87 535i, so I've always loved that body style... didn't think there were any of those out here, let alone an M5!
How hard is it to find one of those these days?

I know of three e28 M5s two belong to BF.C memebers and one sits in a garage off of Kalanianaoli.
I do see e28 535s pop up now & then...the good, bad & the ugly.
just hang out on the forum, someone is always surfing craigslist and will point out any deals.

Exactly. The non-Ms pop up regularly.
There was a sweet white 5 speed 535 on maui recently; $2000 OBO
I bet someone's really enjoying it now...

Yikes! $2k would be a deal. I miss the growl of the straight six and the solid "thunk" of the doors. Well, being from Bavaria I'm sure I have some ancestral desire.. hahaha. :) Gotta sell some "other" stuff first but then I can start lookin. I need a car for a daily driver and something I can autocross. A 3 or 5 series from that era I think would fit the bill just fine!

I see them regularly for $500 to $1500. Ronin had a great E28M5 which was beasties before. In fact it looks like the one in the pic's at C&C.

Absolutely. Come to Maui (mauiscca.org) to see a few great examples.

i think ronin's M5 was Bryan's old E34 M5 if I'm correct... either way the E28, and E34 are both GREAT cars. I love the body styles on both

Are you the guy who was selling Scotty's red Mk I mini a while back? Moustache, sliding windows and all...
I remember going to Kaneohe to check it out and the seller was into Minis in a big way; he also had a 944 restoproject in the yard and a G35 daily driver and worked for the other local airline.
Funny how one remembers the cars but not the names... :D
