Hi all.
Some one got a minor scrape on the LT Front Wheel. It had to be my wife because I am sure I would not do a dumb thing like that. I think with minor sanding and touch up I should be able to make it go way. Does BMW have a Wheel Touch Up Kit or do you have to Try to match the color and get some clear coat?? Thanks.

They usually have people who come in to the dealership to do these things, or they can at least recommend someone. Not aware of any BMW kit.

DING*. Most dealers have a "wheel expert" who spends time at the dealership. I had a wheel "issue" and the dealership made it as good as new!

How much does it cost to touch up a wheel?

Simple solution, don't let your wife drive the car...women CANNOT drive, thats been genetically proven time and again...hope this helps...

Whoever's fault is it, it no longer matters.

I ran across this link that you might find useful: http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext43.shtml (http://www.audiworld.com/tech/ext43.shtml)

Ppl charge about $150 CDN per wheel at the place I live at. It might cost you more or less. Nevertheless, you might also want to have your rim checked for hairline cracks too. Depends on the force on impact and location of impact, the rims might have been cracked.

Wow. $150 for cosmetic touch-up on a wheel? Sounds pricey but I am ignorant on how much time is involved to fix.

It is more than a touchup. They have to sand the wheel I believe and then apply some material to it then paint/clearcoat the damaged section. I think it it more involved than people realize. if you are good at this stuff you may want to attempt it yourself, but most people are better off giving it to professionals. Reminds me of a proverb I've heard before: "Give your dough to the baker, even if he will eat half the bread!".

Thanks all. The damage is very minor to the rim edge. I have some propeller files from my general aviation days. First I am going to burnish, paint and clear coat. If I mess it up, to the dealer it goes. I have wheel and tire insurance, don't think they will cover this. Does not hurt to try. If they do, I will post it.

Well you can view it this way: Since you have tire insurance, leave it for now and if your rim gets damaged because of road hazards then you can have it replaced for free

They will NOT cover it. It is explicitly stated in the restrictions in the contract, at least in mine, but I bet in yours too. True it never hurts to ask, but sometime you save some face by checking yourself. My 2 cents.

Man, I did the exact same thing yesterday coming off a driveway a little too close and when statring to move forward, I heard that painful
scraping sound (RR wheel) and jumped out to see how much damage-around 3 inches...

Can't blame the wife cuz she's sitting in the front seat, oh well, what the heck. Now I have reason to ask her for even nicer (19's maybe) wheel upgrade!

Life is short, live, love and laugh!!!

ok. I think I feel better now :}

There is a very good DIY post on this. Search and you should find it. I think it is a lot of work so I would go to professional in any case. I curbed a wheel in the snow (those damn performance tires just don't grip in the snow!) on my E46. It was only a couple inches right on the edge. I just lived with it and turned the car in at the end of the lease with no problem.

I know what you mean, the sound was horrifying. I was being sarcastic when I blamed the wife, I did it. But my wife was guily on the last BMW I had and she felt so bad about when she showed it to me that the only thing I said was " OK THEN". Later

Not what I wanted to hear, but you are probably 100% right.

Wow..interesting thread...realizing the expense of a costly move like that would make me more conscious of the way I drive for sure!

It was mostly paint that scraped off. I stopped at the dealer parts department and asked them for the matching color and clear coat for the wheels and the said that they don't have any more due to EPA regulations. HMMM. They said to take it to a paint shop and have all for done so the color on all wheels would match. Thanks for the link.:)

You are correct but even I am the only one that notices it, it still irritates me.
