Fellow gear heads, I have found an old BMW that I have been told I could have if it could be put back together. I don't have any details yet but I think it is an 70-73 2002. The car has been partially taken apart (again I don't know how much) and has been in a shed stored for some years.

I'll try to fill in more information as soon as I get it but I wanted to know your thoughts about what I could expect to get it bak on the road. I'd love to have a little project to work on but I don't know if I'd be getting in over my head.

Your thoughts????

check for rust man, everything else can be fixed, the rust will kil it, raise it up and take a good look

take the carpets out and look around, check trunk etc

This depends on many things, your level of expertise, how much work is needed, is it worth the effort, is it worth the effort to you, how much of the car is there, etc... Pics would help to identify if the car is worth the time. Keep us informed

A picture or two are worth 1,000 words each on this.

I'll try to get some pictures shot and posted. Then we can debate. I've seen the car once before and I think it was black. Anything else I say would be a guess from some time back at this point so I'll wait to get better info.....

Thanks for the response

It wouldn't happen to be a 1972 Bavaria, would it?

Well, I have a small update. It seems the car may not be a 2002, but a 1600 series car. I hope to get a look at it tomorrow and I'll gather as much information as possible to report back. Not too disappointed, I just hoped I had stunbled onto a diamond. If I could get it to look like the 1600 on Keith's web page that would be alright with me.......

OK, I saw the car today and here is what I know:

1976 2002 Black with tan interior.
VIN 2740124
Odometer 37684 (I would expect that to be 137684 because the car has been in storage for some time).
4 speed
The car was running when it went into the garage.
Front and rear glass has been removed but is there and ok.
All exterior trim has been removed, but is supposedly with the car.
American bumpers are removed but there as well.
Stock steel wheels are on the car.
The body has had some work do on it but having owned another one of these
I don't see any rust that I wouldn't haved inspected. The worst spot I saw was in the spare tire well closest to the rear tire.
The dash only has 1 small crack (3/8") on the second divider in the colection area.

That's about all I got to see today because I ran out of time. Plan on getting the car out of the garage and over to the shp where I can really get a good look at it. I'll get some pictures posted as quickly as possible so we can beat it up. I'm pretty excited. I knew the car had been worked on (body), but I didn't recall the interior. I've always liked the black over tan color scheme.
I was not able to get the hood open due to things being on top of it so I can't tell you anything about the engine other than I would expect it to be stock.

If the car is a stock '76 with 4 speed tranny what else should I expect?
