Snapshot: Went to 2 Mavis locations and was spoon-fed bull-sh*t all the way. Never returning again.

I had suspension and tie rods done and needed alignment asap. The shop I trust was overbooked and I would have to wait a while so I paid a visit to Mavis shop in Scarsdale, NY, the one on route 100 (Central Ave). A mechanic came outside and said some things that made me question his sincerity, but what struck me most was when he said that my tires are dry rotted and need replacement asap. How can 2 year old tires be dry-rotted? Put off by such BS I left.

Few days later I stopped by Mavis shop in Yonkers, NY also on route 100, giving Mavis 2nd chance and believing that there must be some sincere and honest people out there. I asked them to do alignment and install a missing bolt in the strut mount. After the service was done and I picked up the car, there was some "thumping" or "clanking" noise when turning the wheels. I took the car back next day to have them inspect the problem. I was called to see the car after it was raised on the lift and was told that apparently whoever did my suspension did not sit the springs right and it was producing noise. Moreover, shop manager said springs are not supposed to turn when you turn the wheels! Therefore they have nothing to do with my problem and I should take the car to the prior shop, despite me pointing out that such noise was absent before I brought the car.

Thus as manager started to turn the wheels to demonstrate to me his brilliant "finding", of course no noise came from springs, but what was producing noise were the tie rods pulling on plastic engine lining, which apparently was dislodged when they worked on the car the day before. I simply pulled it back into place and the problem was fixed.

Maybe these guys will make a quick buck in the short run by overcharging labor (I was charged one hour labor to install that bolt) and declining to spend time to fix flaws afterwards, but in the long run neither me nor everyone I know will go there ever again!

You get what you pay for. In the end, that's the deal. As far as two year old tires being dry-rotted...it IS possible and how? Who is to say that although you bought/purchased the tires two years ago, they weren't sitting around for five years? I believe datecodes should be plainly visible for us to see, not just for beer, but for tires too.

If Tire-Rack were selling tires that go dry-rotted after 2 years, they would be out of business. As to "you get what you pay for", it seems the more you pay - the more baloney you are fed :rolleyes ....I have dealerships in mind.

+1 on that, if ppl think they get what they pay for with these cars, they got another thing commin. They will change you a arm and a leg not for quality work but because they know you love your car. I can go to any shop for a balancing and they will tell me i need new tires because its "cut" unevenly. BS, my car rides fine and if they think they will get to put some workin into my car without me setting the shop on fire :shifty, they got another thing commin.
