hi i have just had the MAF sensor replaced because the revs stayed up when i changed gear. the fault has now gone when it is put on the tester but sometimes when i drive the revs still stay up. i have heard that it could take a few miles for the computer to adjust. i just wondered if anyone has any ideas why this is happening. should i disconnect the battery for a bit?

What year is your car? Are you throwing any other codes? Do you have a manual or auto trans?
Your throttle could be getting stuck open. Try spraying it down real good with some throttle cleaner and see if it still happens.
Also check for vaccume leaks, but chances are you would throw a code if you had any.
It could also be a clutch/tq converter problem.
You shouldn't have any problems with the computer relearning itself if you had the code erased with a scan tool. If you replaced the sensor yourself and didn't erase the code, then you can disconnect both the positive cable and negative cable from the battery and touch them togeather for about 10-20 seconds. That should reset your computer.

If he cleared the codes and the light came back up then there's still an issue and you need to take it back to the shop.
Sometimes resetting it in that fasion might set the alarm off, but it's simple enough just to click your keychain if it goes off. Might piss off some dogs around you though

So to reset the computer you not only disconect the battery but touch the + & - toghether ? Does not just disconecting work ??

you have to discharge the voltage in the pcm so that it forgets everything stored in the RAM. If you leave the battery disconnected for around 20-30 min or so it will lose it on it's own, but a faster way is to just touch the pos and neg cables togeather when they are both disconnected from the battery. Just disconnecting and reconnecting won't reset the pcm.
