:helpHi. I am changing over to snow tires on new OEM wheels. Since the sport package does not have have a spare, it does not come with the jack, lug, wrench etc. I have seen the OEM kit for 150$. Any one done this already?? Any suggestion's would be appreciated. Thanks. Looks like I got dyslexic in spelling the title.

I just bought this setup: http://leatherz.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=01&Product_Code=SpaceSaverSpare&Category_Code=SafetyConvenience

It's a plain space saver tire and the tool kit is OEM.

I went with the Continental ContiComfortKit from the tirerack.com. There are downsides to every approach, this one's are that it only deals with minor leaks (such as nails), makes a mess for the guy replacing the tire and could be an issue with a TPM system.

On the other hand it is cheap, does not take up much space and should get you moving again in the majority of cases.

What kind of snow tires did you put on? Any snow yet?

I'm reading that you got new OEM wheels for your winter tires. So you'll probably use one of your summer wheels for a spare and just need a jack and lug wrench. I got this jack for $15 after shipping http://www.grizzly.com/products/G8723 and I got a cheap lug wrench. Problem solved.

OK, thanks all. I orderd 18" OEM style 125 and Michelin PS2 Alpine Snow Tires with OEM TPMS from Turner Motor Sports. I think I will burn the $$$ and get the OEM jack kit because of the fit and storage in the compartment that should have contained the spare. Yes a I am planning to use the summer RFT from the front as a winter spare.

You seriously considering an 18" winter setup? What size tires? wider tires will be pretty bad in the snow. I've gone 205 wide on my winter setup and I can sill push the car to 80% of what I used to on my 225s. That is good enough for the winter months, in a little while I will be barely able to drive anywhere near that anyway due to cold/snow/ice. Btw, I got the ContiWinter RFTs, pretty good in the dry so far and no issues with RFT noise or harshness, I believe that is a Bridgestone thing.

Yes mryakan. I am crazy enough to go with 225/40/18 Alpin snow tires on OEM 18x8 wheels. I have a Tacoma TRD 4x4 so its not the primary vehicle for any heavy amount of snow, more like a milk run to the store on the hard pack and slush. Do you still think I am nuts. Your opinion is still valued. Thanks for the input on the curb rash.

225 aren't too bad for your application, but one has to feel bad for the abuse those expensive OEM wheels will get in the winter. Typically people get "cheaper" wheels for the winter, but then I have mounted my winter tires on my OEM 16" wheels, so I guess I am contradicting myself. The real reason though is I plan to get 18" wheels in the spring, so might as well use the wheels I already got.
Why did you shy away from RFTs thought for your winters? The RFTs made more sense for me in the winter.

I am getting the Winter package with the 125 style OEM wheel new out of the box for 220$ each and looking at the prices of the wheels from Tire Rack it did not look like a bad deal. They are over 400$ from the dealer. As for the RFT there where to few option that I found acceptable otherwise I would have stuck with RFT's. Hoping to have a short winter and put the summers back on.
