I would think you would need a MAF in place of the AFM that comes on pre '96 cars. Other than that, you'd need injectors and some sort of fuel controll. not much else.

and the cost will be how much?
what about rebuilding the engine or new piping ?

I think you're at the upper end of the boost range given the high CR of the stock motor. The M42 has forged internals so it's a good candidate, but the head does not breath well in the high RPM range. You'll need an intercooler, oil cooler, and spark/fuel control. How much power are you expecting to make?

Have you taken on a project like this before?

nope so this is why i want to know things that are needed
I found a T60, no clue how many hp i'm going to run with it

You might want to start off running like 6psi, just to figure things out.

You can get a used MAF from a 328 and get it to work with an Apexi SAFC2 fuel controller. The used maf, i dont know 100 bucks. The SAFC2 150-250.

You might need a better fuel pump, and then larger injectors. That should run another 200 or so, I am not sure.

The engine itself can take the boost, i dont know about 15psi, but it can take boost.

trow an sr20det in there, the stock motor can handle around 380-400 hp

personally i think you're best off picking up a used m52 (or a low milage m50 if you can find one)

I picked up a m52 for real cheap.... I doubt a turbo m42 can push more than 200ish rwhp without sacraficing reliability. For about the same price as a budget turbo you could have similar power NA... only in a much more reliable fasion... Plus, if you do decide to go turbo, people are putting out 450-700+hp on stock internals... Im hoping to eventually boost my m52 to a reliable 300ish or so rwhp

yea you're right
i live in quebec and my car has some small rust spots on it already, so there is no point putting a turbo on a rusted car
and i was checking here on bimmerforums that there are E36 M3 going for 7k
might as well pick those up and drive up to montreal. m3 has an m52 any ways, no need to do any work
the reason i was asking is because like i said i already have a turbo laying around , i want to make a use of it

So our engine was overboosting at the track and took up to 27psi. I suspect we lifted the head at that point but a leakdown test and compression test just turned out fine. These engines can take some boost. I'd put a DASC on one before I'd do an M50 swap. You'll make similar power at less weight and lower cost at rebuild time.

Azim05:

I have an e30 318 I might be looking to put a blower on. Ive already spent the money for better fuel sytem parts. Would you know if it would work for an e30 m42? If so I would be willing to take that turbo off your hands if you wont use it.

Rob 99 M3,
How much boost r u running and how much power is ur car putting out? Do u think it would be safe to dd a turbo m42? I know it's clear that i dont know much, and i dont, but how feasable is this project because if i know one thing it's that my car lacks power!! Sorry for asking my own question OP but i thought it was essentially on topic.
