Last week at the SEMA show we were wandering through one of the many halls when we ran into the Senko company. They weren't on our list of people to talk to, but when we saw their products we became excited. They make sheets of carbon and glass fiber that you can use to cover basically anything you want. Check out pictures and pricing below

Drew,

What car would you be putting the carbon fiber on? This shouldn't have a problem with heat as long as you don't put it directly on the engine!

depends on how it goes-

C43 most certainly- I'll be making some custom underhood "covers" as soon as i work out where everything is going under there. I'd also like to cover my plastic engine cover with it. i definitely need to recover my factory fake cf pillars and "sport trim" interior with it- plus this will allow me to match my custom dash piece to the rest of the itnerior (im doing a 9.2" in-dash and some gauges where the stock piece used to be)

let's figure something out

I'd recommend using the protective coating if it's going to be exposed to the elements. I'm glad you like it!

So give me some more info about this. How sticky is it? Would it be sticky enough to be permanent when applied to paint? Safe to wash and wax without peeling off? Could it be removed if necessary without damaging the surface? Durable enough to hold up to the elements without fraying/discoloring/peeling? How much flex does it have? You said you can heat it to make it more plyable, but could it do complex curves and angles?

Say like could I coat these?

LAWLence
01-05-2008, 06:02 AM
I did my steering wheel emblem with the sample. Honestly, I don't it wouldn't look as good as a tradition weave+resin because this material is textured and would leave raised edges if you're only doing certain portions of your car.

However, it's a great product for flat surfaces and trim.

I would not use it on curve and angles, it's really designed more for flat surfaces. As far as washing it, that would be fine and waxing as well. You can remove it once it's on, you would just have to remove the adhesive residue afterwards.

It was designed to be used on the exterior of cars and to hold up to the weather. I think I might have mis spoken before, this has a clear coat already on it, the other piece that comes with it is for tracing the install, not a protective coating.

possible. i planned on doing this, but when i received the sample, the texture is lumpy. Looking at the roof at an angle with a glare would look just weird. its not smooth like CF hoods and other body parts

I think you could spray it with a coat of clear and it would look perfect imo. I got my sample but it is so small i can't really do much with it. I just question the sticky'ness of this and how long it would hold, that is really my only dought. It looks like in the audi, they got it to curve quite well. I am sure they heated it to do that.

yeah, i'm sorry it's taken me so long to get started.

I had a couple set backs as will occur with daily driven fi project(S) lol.

subaru blew a oil seal in a turbo and i ended up swapping turbos, intercoolers, boost control systems, installing a new stereo (diamond hex series and old school zed audio made amps), and dyno tuning it

all that was while it was supposed to be my daily during my reworking of my C43 supercharger project (plan was to have it apart for 4-6 weeks) which in itself didn't work quite right either- and STILL is barely running (but it's making 300 whp below 5k rpms with crappy a/f and only 4 psi--- too bad it won't rev any higher than that without going lean, lol).

anyways, the product is going to work and i'm excited about it. I'll tackle the trim as soon as i can. I have also already found some uses for it under the hood in the mercedes project (going to make straight up custom covers for most of it- of course it needs to be running right before i do that though)

-drew

edit- i see you list aem up there in the sig, got a contact there you can bother about finding a way to truly tune my C43? No one seems to be able to provide tunign software for the ecu OR a way to install a standalone and have it run...

edit- i see you list aem up there in the sig, got a contact there you can bother about finding a way to truly tune my C43? No one seems to be able to provide tunign software for the ecu OR a way to install a standalone and have it run...

I've never heard of anyone using the AEM engine management system on a Mercedes, didn't the kit come with new software?

no, the kit really doesn't come with new software.

they basically just clamp the maf voltage at 4.9 add a fmu and call it good (for 4 psi).

I have yet to find any true single tuning solution which can tune fuel and timing together.

Have sent quite a few emails to companies and gotten nothing back- split second has some options, but aren't ideal.

I'd rather do something with a full sheet and then take pics. I'm thinking about using the sample and cutting out small crescent shaped cf pieces to add to my lighted shift knob. one above and below the numbers. If I do, I'll take pics of that.

I need some help from the BMW community. The manufacturer Senko has a very large size sheet ready, but I need to see if it's big enough for any cars of if they need to go bigger. I need measurements for the following roofs:

E36 Coupe and Sedan
E46 Coupe and Sedan
E39 Sedan
E60 Sedan

If people could provide me with that, it be a huge help!

still waiting on my hu to arrive then i'll be making a new dash bezel for that, my 4 cyberdyne gauges, my wideband, etc.

I will snap good pictures at that point etc.

edit- also my 7" mids that go in the doors are cf and match pretty well

any word on the roof size sheets?

newagecustoms

Can you check with the manufacturer and see if this stuff can be lightly scuffed and clear coated? that would solve the texture problem for people who want to use this on the outside of their car and make it looks stock (i.e. roof)

That really looks great, how did you like the material? Did you like working with it? I'm going to use some of your pictures on our website.

Also, for people looking for roof size sheets, Senko does have a 37.8 x 70 inch sheet, but it's not big enough to do roofs :(

give me a couple more days and i'll have some better pictures for you- that stuff is only the tip of the iceberg so far as what i'm covering.

I love the way the product looks, but it is a struggle to wrap complex shapes at times.

I am making engine cover pieces right now on that car as well as a custom dash (pioneer avh-4000dvd, 4 cyberdyne gauges, and ngk afx wideband- nothing else, climate control etc. is all going to the glovebox), and doing a bunch of the trim for parts of my custom stereo. It will make for some better pictures for sure.
