Weather is cooling down - Went for a long drive around the back hills of Yosemite and ran the car real hard and it never got above 1/2 - Still going to look at some cooling upgrades for the summer when it's 100+ degrees

Thanks - Picked it up at the salvage yard outside of Fresno for $15 - I wasn't sure it would fit, but made it work. Sometimes you can get a great deal if your timing is right. I got my Recaros seats out of a wrecked 320is for $40 for the set from the same yard, deal of the century.

Anton, did you drill holes into your trunklid to mount the spoiler? I know tlapham did...was wondering if you might have mounted it in a different way...I'm debating about the hole-drilling...

Sweet car by the way...super clean...

By the way, is that an original color? if so, what is the correct name for it?
thanks,

Yeah I had to drill into the trunk to mount it and I was a little nervous doing it.

If I had to do it over I would cut the bolts and use that killer double sided automotive tape that 3M makes. It is used on new cars to attach emblems and other parts and the shit really holds. I took the emblems off my wifes Titan and it was a bear to remove, but it does not damamge the paint if removed carefully.

When I got the spoiler off the e30 at the salvage yard I noticed there were a some e21's so I have picked up an extra trunk lid in case I want to go back in the future. Taste change over the years, but I think it still looks good and is understated compared to some of wings I see on cars today.

It the orginal paint - Ascot Gray I think. The paint has faded since it was always parked outside for so many years. When I had the spoilers painted a few years ago the first shot came out darker than the car. The 2nd mix matched pretty well given the age of the car. I like the gray/silver metallics on all German cars.

I am going to repaint the car in a year or two. I still like the color a lot, but after 28 years I think I might want to change it to a different color from the same period. I have always like the Polaris Metallic (light silver)

Thanks for the ideas Anton. On the subject of running cool...I've had my car for almost 2 months now and I've put maybe about 72 hours of driving into the car. (short trips mostly)

I've read alot about how e21's can run hot pretty easily. The thing with my car is that I can hardly seem to even break the quarter mark alot of the time. My drive to/from work is 4 miles one way so I can understand if it it doesn't get that warm. But my Pathfinder seems to reach "normal" operating temp in that distance.

You think I might have a faulty temp sensor?

I just recently replaced my leaky radiator and threw in a new thermostat for good measure. Is the temp sensor the brass/copper "plug" that you screw into the corner of the radiator that's connected to 2 wires? I wiped the inside surface of that plug clean as I replaced the radiator.

That's funny. Steph told me last night that she wants to paint my car (which was Polaris Metallic) the Ascot Grey color.

MrBuddhaDude, four miles is short not a lot of time for a 4cly to get hot. If it isn't broke don't fix it. My needle takes a while to move when I let it warm up, and even when I drive it 7 to 10 miles it still doesn't move very far. I wouldn't worry about it. If you find your not getting a lot of heat when it gets really cold out then investigate.

That is funny because my first thought was to keep it the same because I still like the color and it would be simple. My wife said if I am going to do all that work and expense to repaint why not change the color. The two colors she likes is Black and Polaris Metallic. I think black would be hard to keep up, so I am think Polaris might be the way to go.

Black is the most difficult to make look good as well. You have to have a very straight body for it to look right.

Changing a color on any car requires extensive body work. You will have to remove all the doors/hood/boot.sunroof/etc to paint it right, so there is more sanding and work involved.

And with black, you will have to make sure the blocking is done right, blocking a car for paint is where a good chunk of the change goes.

Agreed - Painting is still down the road. It will be the last thing to be done and it will have to be done right. I stopped adding the $$$ if have spent over the past 25+ years, so I don't plan on cutting corners anytime soon. The car is more sentimental than anything - it has out lasted many girl friends, and one ex wife. Wife #2 only has a few years under her belt, so we will see . . . :D

I like the color of your e21 - you do not see that color very often. Did you repaint the same color? Sometimes less is more. I am not sure if the side skirts and rear skirt will stay on my car in the end. It took a long time to track them down, but I am still not 100% sure.

I hear that - I grow up in NorCal (San Francisco Area) and the fog is totally different up there - it a wet fog, but the stuff that rolls down the valley is really bad. As for the heat it took me a long time to adjust, but A/C really helps me - not so much the BMW. Car never ran hot until I moved down here/
