Hello all,

It's come time to sell my E21 for school. It's an alpine white iS, with LSD, 3 spoke steering wheel, foha air dam and power side view mirrors. Engine runs perfect, just refreshed it with a new waterpump, radiator, slave clutch cylinder, complete ignition, o2 sensor and all filters. Interior is perfect with the exception of the driverside Recaro; its all chewed up and has a seat cover. All guages, cluster, and dash controls work. Original Blaupunkt stereo still works great.

The bad:
Rust on fenders, rocker panels. Other obscure surface rust as well.

Only 170,000kms

This car is in Vancouver, Canada. Asking around $2700, or make an offer!

Holy crap!!

A Canadian is - there are none around here at all. Are there others out there? I'm looking for an is parts car and was told they didn't sell that model here.

BTW $2700 seems a bit steep - even in Canada - even for an is - with rust.

I've owned a few is's in Canada. See them all the time around Vancouver.

Damnit! I want one. You don't even see e21's here let alone is models. Everyone I've asked about it here just kinda shrugs.

Boy I hope a few made it out here as I could sure use parts from that model.

Do you know if there'd be is models around the wrecker's out there?

I'm open to offers; gotta pay for school. The main selling point is the interior and the engine/drivetrain. They are in perfect condition. The iS trim and stuff is a bonus, and lots of people have talked to me about parting the Foha, LSD, the steering wheel, recaros.... With all those offers combined, i'm almost at the asking price. I just don't have the time to part it out. But i'm also not throwing that idea out.

None at all. I couldn't find iS options anywhere. Just out of curiousity one day i looked around to see how much money it would take to build an iS. I couldn't find anything. There, however, lots of just plain old e21's. Most of the ones i see on the road today are a mess, which endup at the wreckers eventually.

I've seen a few iS models around Victoria, but most are just vanilla i. I've added Recaro's and LSD to mine from a couple parted sport models over the years. I got a whole mint sport interior from my then mechanic for $500 and a LSD including halfshafts for $550 over five years ago from Bimmerparts in Duncan. Call Bimmerparts if you can stand the prices and shipping to Regina.

I've checked Bimmerparts out before and ran screaming from the price shock. I am currently exploring the idea of sourcing parts or a whole parts car from North Dakota as it's not too far from here.

This car seems a bit steep in price. Although mine was a bit rough (missing the frt air dam, missing the spoiler, and all the same rust issues) when I bought it, I only paid $775.00 from a asking price of $900.00. Your interior is in much better condition than mine, but my car only has 100K and only 35K on a rebuilt motor, which runs great.
It's hard to say how to compare, but if your wanting near that amount, I would consider the parting out idea. This is not to say that no-one would consider paying what your asking, you just might get more parting it out.

How much is this stuff worth then? The foha, LSD, Recaros, steering wheel, power mirrors, transmission, M10 etc...

It's worth in the neighborhood of a grand to me if it's all stuck on an e21.:D

Depending on the severity of the rust issues mind you.

I'd say do a search for the parts you want to sell as if your wanting buy them. Get an idea of what there going for. Add it up, and if looks like you'll be able to get more parting it out, do it! Not all junk yards carry these cars, so you'll have no problem selling most of what you want to sell. List your parts on Craigs List, its free.

A car is worth what you put in it or what it already has in it , less a little depreciation,,lol

Well that's what we feel, but this is seldomly the case. The labor/worth ratio never evens out lol. It only pans out when what you have cost less than cost or is free.

haha so basically be content with a grand since i have no time to part it out? with every kilometer i drive, i feel it becomes even more depreciated:(

Love that old Ford man. We gotta do whatever it takes to save the e21s. I should post a pic of my hilarious rusty Mitzubeater - just ressurected it with a $7 pick-a-part.

I wonder if we could start a thread to show all non-e21 beaters we drive so we can work on and save our real cars.

1980, rides like a caddy! And this thing is quiet, paid $400. for what a deal. My wife redid the seats I'll post some pic some time. I painted the inside all black, it was all bright blue, with country plaid pattern seats. The paint job was a quickie, it was white and had cancer of rust all over. I'll be fixing some of the paint this winter if I get the chance.

haha so was i right? it's a Fairmont?

I remember before i got into BMW's i was all about the American Muscle. I was gonna have chevelles, camaros, barracudas, javelins, mustangs, chargers. Then i drove one, realized they were gonna rape me on gas, so my dad introduced me to his old e21:) i compromised there.

I hear what your saying, but there's nothing like American Muscle Cars:buttrock. I for one don't like paying a lot for gas but I also love what gas can do. I say let all those that want to save our planet, buy hybrids and plug-up cars and let me have my gas at a cheaper rate haha:stickoutt. Until hydrogen cars or some other fuel that has the same potential as fuel (power/distance), I'll keep fill-en r up.

but, i can't say how i feel about gas an saving the planit better than smsteven already did.

320 bimmer you have better luck picking this up, although this is a Challenger it's better than the new family Charger. Any 69 R/T you might find cheap will require a total restore.

well, frankly, since a good charger r/t is about the same as a new camero... i'd much rather have a 69 charger r/t, bigger wow factor on girls :D

Yeah haha thats how i feel about it too. I'll let other people save the planet, and save the oil for me! Unfortunately, because of university, one of these was out of the question. As for muscle cars, when i was 14 i could have told you anything from the color names to engines available to any rare option on any american car model through 1964-1974.And what comes with that territory is hating all riced-out hondas haha.

Gotta love that mopar. My favorite would have been a 69 Roadrunner with a 440 6-pack. Not offered with A/C or powersteering or even carpets. Ahhh the torque on that thing...

ahh yes, the roadrunner... can you say burnout?!!

^^^ thats a ford aint it?... looks like one.. i could be wrong... but im usually not. it does look like a ford... a ford hmmmm ill have to think about that one.....

the one thing i like most about old US muscle is the simplicity. down and dirty mechanics, almost no eletrical system to think about, and no computer AT ALL! i've been into american muscle since i moved her 10 years ago (from australia). but, never forget, australia has its fare share of badass looking sounding and running muscle. mad max's car is one...

god i need some more american muscle... my 73 gmc is fun, nvr dies, but, god i need something with a little more... hmm whats the best word... hoolaganism to it. (i have no idea if that is a real word)

gotta love the sound... of a V8 440 hemi bored 50 over with a costom made carb system. mmmmmmmm gotta love it :D:buttrock

I ditto that, I also used to say I'd rather drive the old cars, new cars are junk, but time changes you. I still hold that fact true in my heart, but there's nothing like something new, the smell and the fact your the only owner. I've never owned "new" (except my bike) but close to new- 01 in 04.

its a 1970 AMC Javelin. 401 cubic inches, beat most mustangs and camaros that year.

Ahhh the Ford Falcon XB...aka the mad max car. Very nice.

THe main thing that led me to BMW's as a "substitute" was the rear wheel drive. I hate FWD. LSD is fun, positrac is even "funner" if you have the torque.

oh, right... lol, i haven't looked them up for some time now.

yeah, front wheel drive can eat my LSD! woot!yes positrac is "funner" but a welded rear end is "funnerest" :D
yeh, torque is something the e21 lacks a little.... well, low end torque....

oh well, its more fun to drive than my brother's '92 325i convertable so, i don't really mind :D:D:buttrock
