So I made a stupid move a few weeks ago. I was in a parking and accidently drove over a curb. Now I have nice size indentation right behind my passanger front tire.

What are the best looking side skirts I can get that look subtle? I don't want anything to wild. It kinds sucks that these pieces are welded to the car.

I did this a few months ago myself, but I'm looking to just get mine repaired. A starter question is can these factory skirts be removed? If they can, then maybe a rubber mallet can do the trick. Anyone had one of these repaired? If so, what was the cost?

2slow4u, look at the bavauto website. They have a set of skirts for sale that mimic the look of the e36 m3 with the bypassing swoops. They have a pic w/ one on an e39. In my opinion, it looks great. Priced around $250 and will need painting.

The factory ones are part of the body... costly to remove I would think... I got a dent in mine too... a perfect circle, barely noticable.. and it will remain there.

+1, they cannot be removed, they're part of the whole side frame of the car.
I had the same situation with a big ass dent right behind driver's side wheel. I had the side skirt repaired and the entire skirt repainted. The side skirt is double-walled. I believe the body shop cut out the outside dented area and replaced it... welded, bodywork, etc. The inner wall still has some damage, but not critical to safety, etc....it that was the cheapest and quickest way to get it looking back to normal. The body shop said if it happens again, they wouldn't recommend repairing it the same way, would have to change the whole side frame I guess.

I did the same exact thing a couple months ago. I got it fixed for $400 at a small shop...

I did the same to my 540. Cost me $1k at Service King (a chain in Dallas). Yikes!

that method will not work because you have to be able to get behind the dent to work with it and get it smoothed out. thats why everyone gets them replaced/repaired since PDR is not an option.

I was quoted $450 at an awesome body shop for a whole new sideskirt and paint

how in the hell do u guys MANAGE to do that? it should definetely require some sort of SKILL to run over a curb @ such speed that the poor car just drops dead on the curb, wtf?? :confused

could happen to anybody. I'm the worlds best driver and even I managed to scrape up my bumper :)

speed doesnt really have anything to do with it. you know how you can scrape your front bumper on curbs, parking blocks, etc? well the same think can happen to your sideskirt if it lines up right...

whats pictured above is not a scrape bro, it lookes like someone smashed it with a sledge hammer from down below. nyway, not tryin to be a smartass, but I guess I LOVE my car more than im that of a perfect driver, to stay away from curbs n all. then again, like mentioned above, noone is guranteed against it, just so happens lots of E39ers had that happened to them :(

P.S. the other day a lady on a Soltice did the same thing right in front of me, ran over the curb and BOOM big ass dent and the car is bottomed on the curb. yikes

well bro, I wasnt referring to that pic. and it doesnt take a sledge hammer to do get a dent like that, the metal there is rather soft. I was just trying to point out that the sideskirt dent can happen in the same manner that a bumper scrape does when youre parking, without any speed involved. if your sideskirt is lower than a curb and you turn into it, then bam you have a scrape/dent or whatever the hell you wanna call it

and yes, running up on a curb at speed will do it too lol. either way it sucks :(

I used to see these threads and think "what an idiot- I'll never do that to MY car."

It's all fun and games until you are the one with the dent.

haha i was going like 20 when i hit mine... a coworker watched it happen and said the rear wheel jumped off of the ground also..

Worst part about it was that it happened right in front of the install bay at my work. The same place we sit and laugh at all the people who hit the same curb... :(

Well actually I left my car parked right next to a diamond shape planter in wal-mart parking for 8hrs. When I came back to my car, I jumped in and slowly pulled forward sense no one was parked in front of me. As soon as I felt the passanger side tire roll up on the corner, my instant reflex was to zip the wheel to the left. As soon as I did that "BAM!!!!!!!!!!" the bottom panel got crushed in.

I got out immediately and already knew what to expect :(:(:(:(

My point is I totally forgot about the damn planter box being diamond shaped. after not setting foot in the parking lot after a full day.

Man that actually came out quite well. I do remember your original thread though.

I have the same issue too. My brother was helping me put my wheels on and decided to use it for a jacking point so I have a nice sized dent behind the drivers front wheel.

Now that I see the damage, I realize that it isn't a PDR issue...OUCH! I pinched a sidewall once and it popped my tire but NEVER have I come close to that kind of damage. So sorry it happened to you...

Kill your brother.
I will gladly testify on your behalf.

I can't speak for anyone else, but my friend's driveway has an intersection with a large boulder on the inside corner. I cut it too close and forgot about the boulder... Ouch.
He's now moved the boulder further away.

I know that feeling. Was lowering the car down onto jack stands and somehow I underestimated the shift in angle and missed the jackpoint right behind the drivers side. Once I realized this, I quickly tried to reverse directions on the jack. Luckily only a slight dent there. Was gonna take it apart one of these days and bang it back out but I guess as I just learnt from this thread, it is part of the body. While barely noticeably, I know it's there and it BOTHERS ME! :mad
