I went to the DIY section, but from what i saw, he was suggesting for u to paint them silver or black. I want mine back factory red. Can anyone point me in the right direction with paint type and all.

They were unpainted originally. If you didn't paint them, then the previous owner did.

Hmm! Didnt know that. Thats why I asked. I know caliper paint, but I thought they came this way from the factory and there was possibly some way to clean them or some special type of paint to restore them with. I usually paint mine black, but the red will look pretty nice once painted right. Thanks!

Best way to clean them is with brake parts cleaner and a rag. There are two types of caliper paint, the kind that comes in a can, and the kind that you apply with a brush. I prefer the kind with the brush.

Actually, they both come in a can, but you are right the brush-on type is much easier to use, and you can lay up a thick shiny coat that looks like a powder coat job.

I have seen red caliper covers at some online retailers. Check:

IMO painting brakes looks weird when it's not a BBK. red paints drwas your eyes to them, and then you see they are the skinny stock size and do not say brembo or stoptch or something. just looks cheap.

Mine came painted red by the previous owner. I like them. Might look cheap to guys who know how much a real big brake kit costs, but personally I'll take clean red oem calipers over discolored and otherwise uncared for calipers.

The rear calipers are too small on the 528i visually. Good thing I have a set of 540i rear calipers sitting here waiting for the next brake job.
