View Full Version : Fuel filter question!!
Kevin E21 11-07-2007, 08:21 PM God damn I hate Autozone.
I am going to attempt changing my fuel filter tomorrow, and I have about 8 autozones in my area. Everytime I go there it's always an adventure. They never seem to have what I want in stock, and I end up driving to every single one before I find what I'm looking for.
The fuel filter I bought didn't come with the washers in the picture. I asked the employee and he called up one of the other autzones I had not been to yet, and they checked and neither did theirs. So I bought it anyways...

...however when looking at this DIY link the filter looks different. It doesn't have a nozzle on either end, but it is threaded instead.

Did autozone f*#& up?
ATLBimmerkang88 11-07-2007, 09:21 PM shop at advance auto parts, i work there, just ask me if you need something.
ProjectP 11-07-2007, 10:25 PM That first picture is the WRONG filter. The second pic is correct, the filter uses banjo bolts. You GOTTA get stuff like this from the dealer, well worth it.
gabmwdrvr 11-07-2007, 11:12 PM I was going to recommend Advance auto also. I bought my filter there and no problems. Correct filter with the washers. I have never had a problem there after buying a LOT of parts over the years.
Kevin E21 11-07-2007, 11:34 PM arrrgh! Is it something the dealer would have in stock?
Layne 11-07-2007, 11:51 PM Not likely. I got mine at O'Reilly's no problems.
ATLBimmerkang88 11-08-2007, 12:04 AM Parts America is the system that we run on, so everything is the same Pt. # in advance auto parts, here you go.....http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductList.aspx?PartType=4&PTSet=A Dont even look at the first one, but the others will work.
wayfast 11-08-2007, 12:16 AM partsamerica is also murrays.... just recently i bought 6 plugs from them. they had to order them from the warehouse. i received 6 boxes, but only 5 plugs :shifty
Kevin E21 11-08-2007, 02:31 AM Ok, I guess Advanced Autoparts it is. I only know of one in my area and it sucks driving there because it's in the middle of Peabody. I hate Peabody.
jrcook320 11-08-2007, 01:21 PM The Advanced Auto in my area sucks.
The guys at Autozone know me by name, let me walk back in the back to search through boxes and find parts I'm looking for when I'm doing something custom (like the engine brace and custom coolant/vacuum lines for my turbo setup), and have even given me free stuff when they have old stuff they're trying to get rid of.
I buy car care stuff and parts for my truck there, but wouldn't buy parts specifically for the E21 at ANY local parts store unless I was in a pinch. The prices on obscure euro stuff (such as an e21) is often just as high or higher than vendors like Bavauto, and you never get OEM suppliers. Just order from Bavauto or one of the many parts suppliers listed in the faq thread and plan ahead 3 days.
Kevin E21 11-08-2007, 01:29 PM The problem is I wanted to do it today so it would done for the weekend. I should have just driven up to BavAuto, but it's too late now as I have work. Damn sleeping in.
Kevin E21 11-08-2007, 02:29 PM Went to Advanced Auto. They didn't have any in stock, but that place is so much nicer than all the Autozones around here. I had them order it and should be here Saturday.
winstontj 11-08-2007, 02:37 PM Go to Autozone @ 160 Washington Street in Sommerville. They have it in stock for $32. A little pricey... but hey it's there if you need it. Do you still have that email I sent you about the fuel pump? If you get desperate email me... I'm at work now but I have a BMW filter at home (Charlestown)... Its yours for the $18 I paid for it from BavAuto.
winstontj 11-08-2007, 02:39 PM Part # 043-0787 listed at $23.99 sorry about the misprint of $32... dislexia or something

Yeah, I got your email. I'm going to start with the filter and see if that fixes my problem, if not I'll let you know about the fuel pump. I'm just going to wait till this weekend to do the filter when it comes in. I'm sick of running around the countryside.
rocket859 11-08-2007, 03:31 PM IF you need one bad, il ship one via ups ground. Probably cost you 30$ :P
