Last week when I picked up my car from the dealer for warranty repairs. I noticed a new scrap in the front bumper when I got home. Someone from his shop hit a curb about 8 inches from the ground. I called the service manager and told him that there was new damage on the pass side front bumper. He said they had noted front bumper damage when the car was taken in. I told him that was true but only under the front lip where it had scraped a curb. The end result was he a gave in and gave the benefit of the doubt to the customer.

Here is my question I told him that I wanted the hole bumper removed and repainted, he said he would make sure the job is done to my satisfaction. Now there is other damage to the bumper in other spots, small blems and the curb rash under the front lip. How should I handle this with him and the body shop. I was thinking of asking for all the bumper damage to be fixed before repainting as that would only make sense. I would offer to pay for the bodywork on the small blems and the underside that was already there. Or should I expect them to replace the hole bumper. The damage that they caused scarped down into the black plastic on spots and is about 8 inches long.

Should not be a big deal to fix the other stuff. Really they should not charge anything extra for it but I would offer anyway to be nice. They are already there they fixing other stuff and your extra stuff might add a few min to the job. The bumper is repairable and should not need to be replaced if it is not cracked just scraped. Just make sure you look at the fit before and after, they are hard to put on right after taking off. Pay attention to the area lining up to the hood and around the headlights and foglights.

Thanks for your insight. I also thought that it should not be a big deal to fix the rest of the small problems, but I was shy to ask the dealer or body shop to incur the extra work. I will go over all the repair spots and see what the body shop says.

Well dropped off the la-machine to the dealer today and all went well. The service manager took me over to thier collision repair shop and I spoke with the service rep. He said they would take the bumper off and repaint all areas that needed body work then the hole bumper would be clear coated. I asked why they would not paint the hole bumper and he said the bumper would match the other body panels better if they just blended the the areas that needed body work. Anyway he said black and silver, mine is silver were the easyest colors to blend. The sevice manager also said to fix the other blems on the bumper and to touch up 3 other small scrathces on the back and side of the car at thier cost for my troubles. I was very impressed with thier commitment to please the customer. I'l let you know how it all came out next week.
