View Full Version : A few questions
EMOE3 11-07-2007, 02:57 AM Hey Bimmerheads,
Haven't posted in a while. Some questions:
1. Do any of the local shops have experience with doing differential rebuilds? Specifically, I would like to get a quaife (not quiffe, you perverts...you too Dad) installed in my stock diff.
2. Any one have access to a press, or know of local shops that have a press for doing front control arm rear bushing replacements?
3. Anyone have a spare E30 wiper washer pump they would be willing to sell?
That's it for now! :)
TIA,
-Ken

I was gonna give this thread at least 5 posts before it got dragged into pervdom.
BMWs and sexual deviancy ftw. :redspot
Oh, Pat Casey at the boy's club has a new press. it is impressive. :stickoutt He's usually at the first tuesdays car guy lunch bunch not-a-meeting. That was today.
99MPower 11-07-2007, 04:56 AM ken, I have access to a press whenever you want to use it, let me know...
and no I wont screw it up like the rear spindle (i know SOMEON is going to bring this up)
the control arm lollipops are really easy, let me know
Iwantoneofthose 11-07-2007, 05:33 AM Ken,
I have access to a press as well. I'm sure there's a washer pump on my 325is...if it works you can have it. Just gotta wait a few days for me to tow it home and start stripping it.

i'm sure that's what the boss heard about the rear spindle...:D
ken- the only person i'd trust to do a quaife rebuild is brett anderson @ koala motorsport...might actually be worth the cost to ship it to him...just me though...i'm not sure about anyone local doing it...
The Beastmaster 11-07-2007, 06:25 AM Ken - I know Gerard has installed a few Quaife's. He did a lot of MINIs (Brad Lau, Barry Raff, Kyle Seto and Dirk Minami's)
Gene V 11-07-2007, 02:25 PM not quiffe, you perverts...you too Dad
wadya mean you too Dad?...I had to google quiffe, 'cause I didn't know there was an actual dictionary type word for pu**y fart...::eek:

I think Sonic should be able to do the diff rebuild and the bushing replacements.

actually gonna see if TPLDPR is available, my Social Security starts Jan 1st...
99MPower 11-07-2007, 10:02 PM jayson, I KNEW the rear knuckle was going to be tough, no question about it, as there is no easy way to support it and press the bearing out, especially when there is nothing left of the bearing to press on....
lollipops on control arms are easy.. I think I've done about 5-6 sets of those now, with no problems

+1...it may cost more initially, but it will be cheaper down the road..IMO.

808Cardinal87 11-08-2007, 07:25 PM YOU NEED AN iPHONE......:alrightNope, we don't support those. You don't want a treo either. Get the Samsung SCH-i760 or the Mogul. Then you can get WiFi.
Iwantoneofthose 11-08-2007, 08:42 PM iPhones suck anyway. The Samsung one looks pretty cool though...
How about a Nokia N810? :D

PCP JR 11-08-2007, 11:05 PM I'll trade her a p-chopped photo of iwantoneofthose's butt shooting flames so she or her brother don't have to suffer with its presence... :stickoutt

Doggy style works best after a few power strokes. pull out and allow some air to get trapped...hit it with a brisk thrust and then whole house will rattle.
Missionary, side slap, pretzle, cow girl etc don't work well. Unless she's high mileage & been bored one size over and re ringed...then you'll need a life jacket in case you fall in.
erbillingsley 11-09-2007, 02:31 AM Or a board across your butt.
EMOE3 11-09-2007, 03:15 AM I see this thread quickly degenerated into the bimmerforums-hawaii-gutter. :D
...thanks for the advice and offers for help. I'm still contemplating the Koala MS diff. The problem with that is the down time and $$$.
Once I have enough downtime between auto-Xs I might be looking for that press though.
Jeff, let me know if you have that washer pump when you get a chance. It would be much appreciated.
poser 11-09-2007, 03:19 AM ken- a temporary fix for you washer pump motor (if it's setup like the E36) would be to disassemble it (just pry the case open- it's a press fit), and grip the impeller shaft with some pliers to loosen the rust that froze the motor's armature...reassemble and wallah!!! good for a few more weeks/months...i did this on my M3 before, and it went for about 4-5months before needing to buy a new one...
or wait, cause i think we'll be moving jeff's E30 soon...
apex76 11-11-2007, 11:33 PM i guess this is the question thread so ill ask away. im new to the whole euro car thing but im taking a liking to it. i wanted to know how often do you need to tune your car? when i got my car it had a performance chip and new exhaust and i just want to take care of it. also how young is everyone of here? just curious and whats the turn outs at cruises?

Matt - For me, tune ups are not much of an issue. You'll know when the car starts to run a little rough, but checking your spark plugs and wires as well as all maintenance items, should be done when you change your oil. This will avoid the experience of a rough idle or stalling.
Performance chip and exhaust are good starters, next may be suspension, tire, intake, flywheel and the list goes on and on.
As for age...I'd say the average age is between 30 - 40, except for the few that may be a tad bit over 40.
As for cruises, the turn out averages around 10 or so.
Check out the Kolekole Pass Cruise that is coming up. That is one of the larger ones lately.
99MPower 11-12-2007, 06:50 AM average is around 30-40 like thrlls said.... I seem to be the only really active younger member on the board (24), but there are other younger guys on the board, they just dont post very often...

And there's Cars & Coffee on the Second Saturday of the month, at Nicos/Pier 38... BMWs, Porsches, Ferraris, Panteras, Vettes, Vintage Classics, the odd Servco product, etc.

They're always welcome, just too many brands to list...and if I mentioned Scion, every ricer in town might turn up... and give Cal competition. :D

Then they'd blame you for leading them into Bankruptcy.

That's why they dumped AR the first time.
They should just acquire Porsche...or another Porsche dealership, at minimum at least a Porsche Parts Department! :stickoutt

The cars are much different now...doubt they'd acquire Porsche as it's totally not in line with Servco's way of thinking.
EMOE3 11-12-2007, 09:23 PM Thanks Jason. I'll check that out next time I'm under the hood.
