View Full Version : Dent & Dyno Day
bimmer95 01-09-2003, 11:58 PM Edit: Dent Fest and Dyno Day 2003 is now scheduled for Saturday April 19th at Auto Assets in Powel, Ohio. PLEASE sign up at www.understeer.com if you plan to attend! There is no charge to sign up or attend the event.
Dent Fest and Dyno Day 2003 is coming soon! Last year we had a good turnout and a great time. We're working with Passen Motorsports in Westerville, Ohio (Columbus Area) to allow us to stage our second DF&DD at their location again and we'll be working with Dent Solutions to perform paintless dent removal at a discounted rate. Everyone last year was amazed at the work done by the folks from Dent Solutions. Register now and you'll receive email updates about the event date and scheduled activities. Right now we're shooting for a Saturday in March. Hope to see you all there!
Sign up @ www.understeer.com
Ryan325i 01-10-2003, 12:04 PM Lets hope for better weather!!! :) Last year was a lot of fun. Dent Solutions did a fantastic job on my car.
Hestola 01-10-2003, 01:53 PM Woo Hoo! :buttrock
Dent Solutions did an amazing job on a golf ball sized dent on my car last year. :D
Too bad I still can't dyno my car, due to a suspiciously loud timing chain/vanos/tensioner. :( If I could only get that darn noise fixed, then I'd be more willing to do some performance upgrades.
Looking forward to seeing some nice cars again this year!
bimmer95 01-11-2003, 05:01 AM I'm still amazed at the job they did on your rear wheel well dent!

'90 Jetta GLI Thanks. Iam just kind of playing it by ear at this point trying to get what I want at the best price. Didn't really want to spend all the money on this car but have to now. I got lucky non the less though. I think the exhasut saved the car for the most part anyway. This is it, it was not DTM originally...

'90 Jetta GLI They pulled the car out by the wheels cause I didn't have the tow hook. Iam probably going to see what I can do as far as getting some scratches out on my own. Beyond that If I want nice wheels Ill probably get those Breyton inpiration rims that look like AC wheels. $$ though.

Oxcart 1 01-14-2003, 02:50 PM Yup.
Matthew C Smith 01-29-2003, 06:07 PM any new news?
bimmer95 01-29-2003, 06:17 PM We're currently talking to another shop called Auto Assets also, trying to nail down a date and location.
Matthew C Smith 01-29-2003, 06:23 PM things not working out with Passen?
bimmer95 01-29-2003, 06:35 PM It's not that, we're just comparing locations etc. Auto Assets does more of these events and I hear the owner usually springs for lunch. Passen just sort of made us handle food ourselves.
Either way, we need folks to SIGN UP! Most likely either shop will want us to have at least 10 folks lined up for the dyno in order to justifiy the event. If we've got 10 - 15 folks that sign up and say they're going to dyno, it should be a lot easier to get a shop lined up.
Matthew C Smith 01-29-2003, 06:37 PM I noticed they have corner weighting....
Would the shop be open for that? I might be interested.
If not, I'll put my car on the rollers if it's at or under $50.
bimmer95 01-29-2003, 06:52 PM Dyno runs will certainly be no more than $50. I'll check on the corner weighting.
Matthew C Smith 01-29-2003, 06:57 PM awesome thanks Chris.
Renee M Coupe 01-29-2003, 08:59 PM Good to hear things are progressing with Chip. He seems to be a pretty nice guy.
For the VW events they bought lunch/cooked out (for a large group of people) and dyno runs were only $35. The cost was so low since soo many people showed up to do it. $50 sounds good, I do not want to pay more than that either. Their regular price is $65 I believe.

topazbimma 01-30-2003, 08:52 PM already signed up...and i would defently want to dyno.... let me know on the date.....hopefully it will be early march.....
bimmer95 02-01-2003, 05:49 PM I stopped by Auto Assets today and spoke with the owner. Wow, their shop is a LOT nicer than Passen's, way larger with at least 5 lifts and a large PAVED parking lot. The best date for them is Saturday April 12, Saturday April 26 is okay too. They can either do per car pricing on the dyno or per hour ($100/hr - 3 or four cars per hour). I'd like to get some opinions on the best date from you guys ASAP. If we can get a good turn out for this event, they'd like to bring in reps from some different companies to do product demos etc and special discounted pricing on some BMW related items.
I know there are at least 15 - 20 Ohio members on BF and I've only had about 5 sign up for DF&DD '03 so far. If you know any BMW owners from Ohio or nearby, have them SIGN UP! Lets makes this a great event!
Oxcart 1 02-01-2003, 06:05 PM anytime for me.
bimmer95 02-01-2003, 06:21 PM Anytime is good for me too. It really shouldn't take too much work for folks to schedule a single Saturday afternoon 10 weeks away. COME ON GUYS!!! The Ohio/Midwest BMW community is needs to get off it's collective ass and start doing something. Last year the local VW club had ~115 cars show up at Auto Assets, lets try to have more that 15
DeezBMW 02-01-2003, 06:48 PM April 12 is cool with me.
Renee M Coupe 02-03-2003, 08:29 AM I wonder if George can send a note out about the event with the next CCA event reminder. If we get some flyers printed, as the weather gets better, I can start putting them on peoples cars. I did this a lot for VW events and it helped turn out.
It seems more local people are on Roadfly than Bimmerforums. Have you posted it there yet?
The Z3 group loves events and I bet those guys will be there. Only a couple will probably dyno though. I will send another note to the group with the set date.
Also, can could start targeting Mini drivers. There may be some modified in town by April. I am guessing it does not take very long to convert the dyno over for FWD.

Matthew C Smith 02-05-2003, 02:51 PM Chris,
Set a date and I'll start harassing everybody I know to come. :D
Matthew C Smith 02-05-2003, 02:52 PM If you make it the 12th I'll do my best to get an Indiana caravan going on.
The 26th and I'll be home for break so I could just drive down for the day.
Firefighter 02-07-2003, 05:59 PM Count me in..
Hey Matt, that would be cool to get a caravan of guys from Indy!!!
Tim
Matthew C Smith 02-07-2003, 10:51 PM If I'm coming from the Haute sounds good to me.
There's a chance I'll be coming from Cleveland if it's the 2nd weekend though.
bimmer95 02-07-2003, 11:24 PM I hope to have that date locked down tomorrow afternoon, I just need to check on how the shop will treat the dent guys. For discounted dent repair rates, the shop will have to not take a cut. As anyone that showed up last year can attest, Dent Solutions did AMAZING work at a great price. I'll keep you guys posted ASAP.
Remember guys PLEASE sign up!
Oxcart 1 02-08-2003, 12:41 AM Iam telling people with BMWs I know through the drive through :stickoutt (for real)
Firefighter 02-08-2003, 12:03 PM Hey Bimmer95,
What all goes on there. Do you organize a drive as well? Or do we just meet at the place and hang out there, and is there going be any vendors there ??
Just asking because I have never gone before and just wanted to know what to expect.
It's gonna be a little bit of a drive for me to come.
Thanks!
Tim
Matthew C Smith 02-08-2003, 12:10 PM I can tell you what went on last year. It rained... :(
but it wasn't bad, there were lots of fun people and cars there. There were dyno runs mostly in the morning and early afternoon and the whole time the Dent guys worked on popping out dents (it's really quite interesting to watch). No vendors last year, little gravel parking lot, and not terribly easy to find (for me anyways).
I took off early that night, but I think some guys went out to dinner and then back to Chris's to swap out Ryan's plugs and do the fan delete.
From the sound of things, this year should be much more fun.
Firefighter 02-08-2003, 12:37 PM Cool.
I'd love to do some easy mods to mine too.
Tim
bimmer95 02-08-2003, 01:36 PM For this year, it's likely going to be at a MUCH larger shop, no gravel :) If we can bring enough people the owner of this shop would like to have reps from a few car/BMW related companies show up to do product demos etc. Should be a lot more activities and there's definitely more ROOM to hang out, plus this shop is much easier to find ;)
VOLSBimmer 02-08-2003, 04:07 PM Count me in, I'll also post in the Indiana post on the regional forum saying that I'll be down for a caravan over to Columbus from Indianapolis!
I don't really need the dent repair because fortunately I don't have any, but I will want to do the dyno!
Chris, are there any cheap mods that I could do while I'm there--what about the fan delete?
bimmer95 02-08-2003, 04:14 PM How about this guys, if anyone wants to drive to Columbus the night before the event and stay at a local hotel, we can do an installfest at my house Friday night :)
Firefighter 02-08-2003, 04:39 PM That would be cool!!!
Tim
bimmer95 02-08-2003, 06:17 PM The owner of Auto Assets is out of town until Wednesday 2/12/03. I'll try to lock down the date for the event with him then and let everyone know ASAP. Anyone that plans to attend, please sign up now! The more folks that plan to attend, the better the chance that Auto Assets will call in vendor reps for demos etc :)
VOLSBimmer 02-08-2003, 06:25 PM What do we need to do as far as the signing up goes? (or is it enough to have replied to this thread)
I'm not to sure of what the "fan delete" mod entails, so could you please enlighten me on that subject and tell me the positives and negatives of it?
Thanks!
Renee M Coupe 02-08-2003, 06:42 PM Iam telling people with BMWs I know through the drive through (for real)
Aaron, I can see you doing this:clap: How has the response been?
I know there are some BMW guys who hang out with the VW crowd, but do not come to the BMW CCA gatherings. I will get the word to them as well.
If people come in town early, I am up for hanging out.

Just replying to this thread doesn't count :nono The list allows us to send out updates via email to all attendies via a PHP script my wife wrote up for me :)
Information about the fan delete mod can be found on understeer.com also. Plus there are dozens of threads about the same here already, a quick search should help you find more than you'd ever want to know.

That's cool, could the fan delete mod be completed during the dentfest at some time? Is the aluminum thermo. housing necessary?
Also, I don't think my 97 328 has the plastic water pump, am I correct on that?
bimmer95 02-08-2003, 07:35 PM I could install a FDK on your car either the night before or later in the day after the event. Auto Assets probably wouldn't want me wrenching on your car at their shop. The aluminum thermostat housing isn't necessary, but it's a good option. I've heard that the junk plastic thermostats were replaced before the end of the '96 production run, but you never know for sure until you pull the waterpump or the thermostat (allows you to see the pump impeller) and take a look. Most likely you're safe.
Firefighter 02-08-2003, 11:33 PM I would be intereseted in the fan delte mod also !!
I'll bring some cold ones for the install party!!

Ryan325i 02-13-2003, 11:45 AM Is the date finalized? My friend is building up his Prelude and I want him to baseline on the dyno before he adds a ton of crap he bought on Ebay. I'm interested in how much power he loses :) :)
Renee M Coupe 02-14-2003, 06:33 PM I know at least one M Coupe owner who can not make it if it is on the 12th. There is Z3 fest in Atlanta that weekend. It will probably rule out other Z3 drivers, but I don't think they wanted to dyno anyway.

bimmer95 02-16-2003, 04:48 AM Hey guys, we chatted with the owner of Auto Assets today and locked down a date for DF&DD '03, Saturday April 19th! Hopefully this works out well for everyone. May 3rd is an alternative date if a lot of folks cannot make it on April 19th, but currently we've got that date scheduled and would prefer to not change it again :) So far it's shaping up to be a really great event, Auto Assets has offer 10% off parts/accesories for attendies, Dent Solutions will be performing paintless dent repair and some really cool vendors have offered products/gift certificates as door prizes!
The more folks we have registered, the more/better sponsors we'll be able to get on board for the event, so please sign up at www.understeer.com if you plan to attend. Just replying to the thread or IMing me doesn't count... go sign up :)
Matthew C Smith 02-16-2003, 02:20 PM You know I'll be there. 1st day of Spring Break!
Anybody want to caravan from anywhere on 70 between Terre Haute and Columbus let me know.
I'm either going to leave Friday and hang out in Columbus Friday night then head to the even Saturday morning or else leave pretty early Saturday morning. I'm thinking Friday would be best as last year I missed all the dyno's except for 1.
Matthew C Smith 02-16-2003, 02:21 PM so what's the final rate for dynoing?
bimmer95 02-16-2003, 03:06 PM $50 for two pulls with a print out, +$10 if you want an A/F mixture print out too. It might end up being cheaper if the BMWCCA gets involved in the event and rents out the dyno on an hourly basis instead and then splits up the $$$ based on cars/hour ;)
BMLRacer 02-16-2003, 05:50 PM Chris and I are very excited to be putting together the 2nd annual Dent Fest and Dyno Day! Auto Assets has really stepped up their support of the event, but we also do owe a bit of thanks to Passen Motorsports for their past support. So far we have Mpact Motorsports (Rob, I hope I spelled it right:D ) putting up a few gift certificates as door prizes, I'm going to go ask Bridgestone if they'll offer some support, and we've asked Matt Malfa from UUC to make the trip to Ohio in support of the event (how's that for being put on the spot Matt?:help :) ). We will be talking to more vendors as the event grows.
I know that Chris is offering to have a Friday night "InstallFest" at his house for anyone that makes an order through Understeer.com, so now is the time to order up that fan delete kit (that I still don't get royalties on:devillook ) or UUC product of your choice.
I can possibly offer a place to crash for one or two BF.C members that might be coing in from out of town. Just email me in advance.
Thanks and we'll be looking forward to seeing everyone on the 19th of April.

so about how many people are registered?
BMLRacer 02-24-2003, 11:52 PM As of the last time I talked to Chris (bimmer95), the count was around 30. But, that was last week. I've been in CA for the last 10 days, so we haven't talked too much. BMLRacer 02-25-2003, 01:12 AM Just a quick reminder. As of right now, the only cars that we will be able to offer dyno spots to are BMW's. If the slots don't fill up (we expet them to), we'll offer a few down time slots to "off brands". BMW's will also be offered the cherry parking spots, other brands will not get the same treatment. We're not trying to be car snobs, but we do want to make sure that this stays on course as a BMW event.
Brian
ASCH MAN 02-25-2003, 10:35 AM Well, by the time the event rolls around, I should have the Prelude Front and Rear ends grafted on to my car. Will I still be considered for a Cherry Parking Spot? JK.;)

Wish I could. It's the first day of Spring Break and I HAVE to be home friday night. Maybe I'll stop by Chris's Friday night if you're going to do some installs.
If anybody is interested in driving down from Akron/Cleveland area let me know. I'm planning on getting there about 10 AM (that's what it'll start right?)

S2kBuddy 03-06-2003, 11:01 AM My room mate and I are both definately coming, and we're trying to get more people from the BMWCCAP (BMW Car Club at Purdue) to head out with us. I haven't looked at a map yet, but I'm sure it would be easiest for us to go down 65 to Indy, then across... Where are we all meeting???
Firefighter 03-06-2003, 12:05 PM If we can all hook up in Indy that would be cool. I am in Indy!
S2kBuddy 03-06-2003, 01:59 PM Firefighter...
What side of town are you on? What about the rest of the gang? I'm not sure how well you know them, but tis worth a shot. My bro graduated and lives right around Butler, so I'm pretty familiar with that area, but I think I'm capable of getting around almost anywhere. Depending on the amount of people, I think it would be neat to meet around the circle, plus it's not that hard to get to. Oh well, we have plenty of time to discuss this, so take care!!
Firefighter 03-06-2003, 02:14 PM I live in Shelbyville, but I grew up in Indy and I am a firefighter on the Indianapolis Fire Dept. So I know it pretty well.
The circle would be cool, or we could meet somewhere just off of I-65, I think that would be easier for people to find.
We can discuss it more when the time gets near.

I live by downtown right off of West Street, my apartments are Gardens of Canal Court which are right across West Street from IUPUI. Actually, the exit for I-65 is RIGHT by where I live, so it's easy access to get around here. I'll post in the Midwest regional section about a caravan to know for sure how many would like to meet up here in Indy and take I-70 on over to Columubus!

Hotels off Sawmill Rd or in Dublin (NW side) will be close to the event and Chris's place. The Wyndham Hotel off of Metro place is just a couple blocks from MAG (BMW, Mini, Porsche, etc dealer). This is also not far from Hilliard and the event in Powell. Nice hotel and about $75 a night. For the best deal, I recommend Hotels.com.

BMLRacer 03-30-2003, 02:10 PM Guys and Gals,
Chris and Lisa have been hard at work on some changes to Understeer.com to accomodate some of the changes in sign up procedures. In order to reserve a dyno spot you will have to register for the spot and put a deposit on it. Chris promised me that it would be ready this weekend and that the email would be sent out. Please read it and follow the instructions very carefully.
Also, please remember that this is a BMW event. Brands that are not BMW's will not be allowed to participate in any dent work unless time allows (read..end of the day) and will only be given dyno slots in the first and last hour of the event. Off brands will not be allowed to park with the BMWs. We will ask them to move.(Renee, please pass this on, I've heard of a lot of VW owners planning on attending. They will NOT have any access to happenings at the event. Chris can give you my phone number if you need to talk to me about this).
Hope to see you all there.

I know some people are coming by to check out the cars and meet new people. I only know one guy who wanted to dyno, but I told him to check with Chris. (He is friends with someone at Auto Assets and didn't think he would have a problem). I will leave the scheduling to you and Chris.
I hope no one has a problem when a non-BMW rolls up into the lot. It is going to happen since AA is normally open on Saturdays.
I have generated some additional Z3 Coupe interest from www.368s.com :)
TiChick 03-31-2003, 12:58 AM Dentfesters:
Please pre-register if you want to dyno your car on the 19th. $5 through PayPal will hold your non-refundable time slot. We want to make sure that everyone gets a chance if they're interested.
(I know I can't wait to see how my Ti does with the DASC.)
There's a sign up on the understeer site:
http://www.understeer.com/dynopaypal.php
I'm sure Chris or Brian will send out an email as well.
If anyone needs Columbus, OH area information, let me know. Auto Assets is in a very nice area north of Columbus (Powell, OH). There's a zoo and some nice shopping and restaurants nearby.
See you there!

agapehme 03-31-2003, 11:05 AM Good morning Lisa,
I selected my Dyno time for 1.20pm and followed the instructions, or so I thought, to the Paypal page and some how made a real mess of things there.

TiChick 03-31-2003, 11:13 AM If you're Andre, then you are signed up for 1:20.
What's the problem? Did you send a paypal amount, or should I clear this out so you can start over?
Thanks
agapehme 03-31-2003, 11:19 AM Yes Lisa that's the problem, I need it to be cleared so I can start over.
Thank you
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 11:56 AM Renee,
I hope that there will be no issues on the 19th. I tossed that to you because I know that you are still fairly tight with some of the VW community. My fear is that more than a few of the VW people are going to crash the party. I've been told by a few people, that had no idea that Chris and I were the ones planning this, that there is going to be a great VW "dent and dyno" event at Auto Assetts on the 19th, they told me because they had been told that a "few BMW's might show up". Needless to say that they were more than a bit surprised when I told them that it was ME who planned the event. I just want it to be clear to anyone who might be planning on showing up that this is first and foremost a BMW event and will be treated as such. I welcome guys and gals from the other side to come and hang out. However, everyone will be subject to the rules laid out in the email that Chris will be sending. BMW's will be the featured marque, BMW's will have priority in parking spaces, BMW's will have the best dyno and dent access.
I'll be looking forward to seeing everyone (regardless of car make) on the 19th. Please, we can't stress it enough, read and follow the email that Chris will be sending. We don't want any issues on the 19th.

TiChick 03-31-2003, 12:01 PM Andre, your time was cleared. Please try again.
Brian, I thought the goal was to get lots of fun car enthusiasts? Yes, it's BMWs primarily, and that's why we're all here--but cool German off-brands won't be kicked off the lot, right?
You Jetta owners...sheesh!
Ludicious 03-31-2003, 12:22 PM Glad I checked back in... I may have missed the whole registering for the dyno part.
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 12:24 PM No one will be asked to leave unless they are causing a problem. For the sake of more than a few of the sponsors, this is a BMW event. We presented a package to some sponsors and they came through for us. In order to keep those who "put up or shut up" happy, we need to keep our taget audience happy. If VW or Porsche or even Yugo people want to come and hang out, then please do. I just want everyone to know that the Dyno slots (except fot the first and last hour) are reserved for BMW owners. Same goes for Dent work. If a person falsely registers a vehicle for any of the days activities, you will be asked to leave and your deposit will not be refunded (say I register my M3 for a dyno spot at 12:30, but bring my 360F1, too bad, buh bye). The VW, Porsche, Yugo gang is more than capable of planning their own event and running t the way they would like (I've been to more than a few VW events where non VW's were completely forbidden). Let's all plan on having a great time on the 19th and making everyone feel welcome.
Also, as is outlined in the welcome email, lunch will be provided for a $5.00 fee. When you pay your lunch fee, you will be given a wrist band. This wristband is for you and you only. If you are planning on bringing a guest, you will have to pay for their lunch as well (if they plan on eating). We plan on having enough pizza and soda to feed about 150 people. If you or one of your guests are caught eating food supplied by the event and not having the proper wrist band, you will be asked to leave IMMEDIATELY with no refunds. Chris, Lisa, and I all lost our shirts last year with 25 people, I'm not about to give away a car payment this year.
Thanks everyone.
Brian
alexd 03-31-2003, 12:31 PM Sounds good Brian!! Did you get the Certificate I sent you? What would be a good time for me to get there on Sat. morning?
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 12:38 PM Alex,
It's sitting here on my desk. Thank you for getting that over to me so quickly.
One of the reasons tht I am trying to get all of these issues out of the way right now is that I won't be flying into Columbus until the morning of the 19th. I don't want to get out to Auto Assetts and find a brand war and mass chaos underway. I would like the morning to be nice and peaceful for Chris, Lisa, Aaron, Ed, Eric, and Chip. I can start cracking heads when I get there :) . I would say that the best time to arrive is by 11a, that way you're all signed up for lunch, have any dent work scheduled, and can make a few rounds and relax a bit before lunch.
Give me a call if you need anything.
Brian
Renee M Coupe 03-31-2003, 01:07 PM I've been told by a few people, that had no idea that Chris and I were the ones planning this, that there is going to be a great VW "dent and dyno" event at Auto Assetts on the 19th, they told me because they had been told that a "few BMW's might show up".
I wonder where this information is coming from:az: I will make sure the rules are clear to the guys/gals I know. Most of the techs at AA drive VW/Audis and are good friends with some of the local VW guys. As long as Chip and his employees are well informed, there shouldn't be an issue. I don't expect a problem from the people I am friends with, but there are some younger guys who I know can be obnoxious. :complain
Are we going to try to seperate the cars by model in the lot?
Renee
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 01:17 PM Renee,
I will be in Powell tomorrow and will stop in and see Chip.
I haven't started to figure out how we'll devide the lot, but I will make sure that the main lot/ high traffic areas are reserved for the BMW group.
Im not concerned with the more mature VW crowd, it's the young and obnoixous group that I don't want to deal with.
Hey, do you know Andy Nixon (Montana Green 91 8v GTI wth A4 1.8t motor)? He's an old friend, in fact, that GTI of his is my old car. Andy's been really good about keeping that car in the same condition I sold it to him 8 years ago (well, except for the motor :) )

alexd 03-31-2003, 01:21 PM Brian - If I can do anything to help let me know. I was planning on leaving PGH, at like 7:30 which should put me in Powell by 10. I can get there earlier if Chris and Lisa need any help. Let me know I would be more than happy to assist in the head cracking. :)
alexd 03-31-2003, 01:23 PM Brian - pm your #, I will call you tonight.
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 01:27 PM This is the DRAFT of the email that Chris will be sending out. Please use this for reference only, as the final copy is subject to change.
Welcome to Dent Fest and Dyno Day 2003!
This email will serve as your registration notice and event schedule. We look forward to seeing you from 10am to 4pm on April 19,2003.
Dent Fest and Dyno Day 2003 will be held at Auto Assets, 378 W. Olentangy St., Powell, Ohio, 43065.
Dyno runs will be $50 for 2 pulls and a print out. A $5.00, nonrefundable, registration fee is required to secure your spot on the dyno. Spaces are limited, so please get registered as soon as possible. The sign up sheet and PayPal information will be available on www.understeer.com. Due to the popularity of this event, we will only schedule non-BMW's to run on the dyno for the first and last hour of the day. If you schedule a dyno run, but fail to make your car available 10 minutes before your scheduled run, you will be removed from the schedule and forfeit your deposit. Dyno runs can ONLY be scheduled through www.Understeer.com, calling Auto Assets or emails will NOT be considered signing up.
We do have the space to offer corner weights, but we will only set up the pad if there are a minimum of 5 sign ups. If you are interested in this service, it will cost $50 with a $25 nonrefundable deposit. Please email M3@understeer.com for more information. If you sign up and we do not have enough interest to set up the scales, your deposit will be refunded.
Dent Solutions, a fully bonded and insured paintless dent removal company, will begin work at 10am sharp. Due to the large number of people coming in from outside of Columbus, OH, we will strive to take care of the out of towners first. For those who would like to have work done, but time or extent of damage prevents work from being done at the event, Dent Solutions will give you a quote that is good for 30 days from the event. Hail damaged cars WILL NOT be worked on at the event. Please look for the dent removal sign up form on www.Understeer.com to get your name in line. There is no deposit required for dent work, as the work is time dependent.
Lunch will be provided on site for a $5 fee. As of this time, we will be having pizza and soda. The menu is subject to change. We will be issuing wrist bands for those who have paid for lunch. If you or your guests are caught eating event food without the proper wrist band, you will be asked to leave immediately and you will be removed from any of the events that you have registered for. We appreciate your cooperation in this.
Door prizes and prizes for other events have been provided by UUC, Bridgestone, Mpact Motorsports, Auto Assets, Apexcone.com, Carbon Fiber Solutions, and others. If your company is interested in donating an item for the event, please contact Brian at BL5194@aol.com. Vendors who have not given a door prize will not be allowed to display or sell items at the event. Please, support and respect our sponsors. Without them, this event would not happen. Also, please remember that you are responsible for your guests. And, most importantly, leave the attitudes at home, have fun, and get excited to see all of your BMW pals!
Thank you all and we'll be looking forward to a great day!
Brian Leib, Chris Bethel, and the Dent Fest and Dyno Day 2003 team
TiChick 03-31-2003, 02:40 PM Brian,
I submitted the event to The Other Paper to be listed in the free event ads/club section. I made sure to state it's a BMW auto event. Hopefully, they'll post it next week.
Lisa

BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 03:01 PM Are you no longer running the internet gambling empire? Chris never told me that you'd left there.
TiChick 03-31-2003, 03:41 PM My contract ends on Friday.
Renee M Coupe 03-31-2003, 04:10 PM Hey, do you know Andy Nixon (Montana Green 91 8v GTI wth A4 1.8t motor)? He's an old friend, in fact, that GTI of his is my old car. Andy's been really good about keeping that car in the same condition I sold it to him 8 years ago (well, except for the motor )
I know Andy. Great guy! That GTI is still in great shape! Although someone did some damage trying to break into it a few months ago. :nono Otherwise, that car is mint! I didn't know he bought it from you.
I went to register a dyno slot though the link, but received a Paypal error. How can I transfer the $5. Can I manually paypal it over to a specific person/user?
Renee
ASCH MAN 03-31-2003, 04:12 PM Hey BML Racer, are you bringing your Boxter to the event? If you do, we will have to make sure you park it around in the back. Just kidding but your Sig revealed you got a very nice car. Is it the "S"?:alright
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 04:22 PM Yup, Andy bought that GTI from me. It was my first new car. When I had it it had a VW Cup motor, Schrick Cam, trick grearbox, euro headlights (not the current 2 headlight setup Andy has), I forgt the name of the exhaust, but Aaron Neuman put it on and did the head and cam, Momo IDEA wheels with the spoke caps and cnters painted green, Neuspeed bars, Neuspeed springs, Bilstein Shocks, the rear wing, Momo Benetton steering wheel and knob, Neuspeed short shifter, and a bunch of stuff that I'm forgetting. It was such a great little car. I sold it to Andy for $8000 with less than 40k on it in 1995 after someone broke in and stole the stereo. I bought a 95 Jetta GLX that went straightto Neuspeed and had all of the A3 development bits on it. That car was in the 95, 96, and 97 Neuspeed catalogues. Anyway, Both of those are many cars ago, but I still enjoy talking to Andy and seeing my little GTI from time to time.
As to the Boxster, it's not official yet, but it looks like that is what is going to replace the M3. It's not an S, as right now I can't justify the extra $10G for 20 HP. I will still have the M3 at DF&DD, it isn't scheduled to leave for it's new home before the first of may.
ASCH MAN 03-31-2003, 04:30 PM I don't mean for this to be a stupid question as this is my first BMW (or any other car) event. Is there any tailgating allowed as long as the driver is responsible enough to know when to quit drinking at these type of events? :dunno
Don't flame me as it does sound odd to drink at an auto event, but on the other hand it may be better to state up front that there is no alcohol allowed on the premises. This could be added to the e-mail.
If I don't know, then there are several others out there that may have the same question. Thanks.

One would have to assume that for $10K you could put a lot more than 20 HP on the Non-S Model, among other things. Is Polk going to hook you up with this one too?
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 04:36 PM Ya know, personally, I don't have an issue with a guy having a beer or two during the day. Privided he/she is responsible enough to know what their limit is, isn't doing big smokey burnouts in the parking lot or general area of the event, and doesn't act like an ass clown. However, I would have an issue with underage drinking, a bunch of drunks, and people pissing off the site to the point where we aren't allowed to come back. We certainly will not be providing any alcohol and won't be endorsing the use of it. But, if you feel that YOU and YOU ALONE are responsible for your own actions, then I have no problems. I will ask Auto Assetts their feelings on this, so policy may be subject to change.
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 04:41 PM Yes, Polk will be helping to build a nice tidy system in whatever I end up choosing. The M3 is going to be shot for an article in Car Sound magazine, as will the new car.
The Boxster S does get slightly bigger brakes, a different rear sway bar, a 6 speed gearbox, and a few other goodies. But, I still am having a hard time seeing why a base S is $52k. I mean, by the time you go to the 18" wheels, sports package, sport interior/ seats, and a few other options, you're at the low end of the 996 spectrum.
alexd 03-31-2003, 04:41 PM Brian - as far as your Boxster goes, we will have to talk on the 19th, my dad has a few set of wheels for that car that I am sure he will want to sell, if you happen to be looking. Have you found a car yet?
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 04:46 PM I'm paying a visit to the local P car store tomorrow. Please let me know what wheels he has and might want to part with. If he has the OE 18's of something close, I'll order the car with the 16's. After comparing the 02's and the 03's, I'm going to opt for the upgraded 03 instead of a smoking deal on a left over. Does he have any other bits to off with?
alexd 03-31-2003, 05:04 PM Brian - if you want call him up, see what cars he has in stock. His dealer is in Greenwich, CT 203-869-8900 ask for Mario de Francisco - I just talked to him and told him you may be calling. The only wheels he has are for a 911.
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 05:17 PM Very cool. I shall ring him up. I wouldn't mind a road trip to pick up a new car. Does he own the dealership?
alexd 03-31-2003, 05:38 PM I figured you wouldn't - you could stop by PGH for a beer on your way home. He is the GM and a fellow BMW instructor.

VOLSBimmer 03-31-2003, 08:25 PM My dad has a 2000 Boxster S and it's one SWEET car, handles like a dream!:D
The 2000 S's had quite a lot more power than the regular Boxster then, but I know it's closer now since the regular Boxster has more power than it did in 2000. However, I think there's still a big enough difference between the 2 even now to justify the difference in price, just my 2 cents...
BMLRacer 03-31-2003, 10:54 PM come on lisa, pay attention..I don't yet own a P car, but it's more than likely that is what I'm going to end up with. the M3 should be at Dent Fest for it's last public appearence with me as the owner.
As far as 03 boxster and Boxster S, many will agree that the S is no longer woth the 10k premium. both cars saw considerable changes in the styling, top (finally, a glass rear window), and changes to 996 suspension bits. The Boxster has seen a considerable boost in HP, both cars now have the same suspension, less the rear sway bar, The biggest difference is in the gearbox. the S gets a 6 speed v. 5 gears for the regular boxster.
Renee M Coupe 04-01-2003, 02:19 PM Brian,
Is the M3 staying local? Your VW roots calling you back?;)
I have posted a message on OhioVW about the rules of the event. Nothing but positive responses! I know some VW people are interested in coming since they hope to be in the M3 market soon. :)

alexd 04-01-2003, 03:04 PM Brian - I hear you are talking to Patrizio, he is a great guy, a real Porsche enthusiast and my dads' top sales guy.
BMLRacer 04-01-2003, 04:38 PM Thanks Alex! Both your Dad and Patrizio have been great so far! We're working on a White/Black/Black 03 Boxster. Do you know if there is anyway to see a photo of that car? I don't even know the name of your Dad's dealership, but they seem top notch. It might be a fun drive home from NYC the first week of May.
Renee,
The M3 is going to be moving out of state. I think it's a good thing because I might break into tears everytime I saw someone driving it here. The new owner has promised that I can come visit her whenever I want and that I get first shot if he ever decides to sell it. Thank you again for getting the word out in the VW community. I just don't want 200 ticked of people.

BMLRacer 04-01-2003, 04:59 PM EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING DENT FEST AND DYNO DAY
Bridgestone has officially signed on as our title sponsor. They are challenging the automotive community to donate to the American Red Cross as a condition of their sponsorship. We are not asking for big donations, $5.00 per person is more than enough. Here is what Bridgestone is offering: For every donation to the Red Cross (we will have a donation box at the event) you will receive 1 raffle ticket, a Bridgestone gift bag containing a Bridgestone hat, Bridgestone pen, Bridgestone luggage tag, and other goodies. You raffle ticket will be put into a hat and drawings will be held through out the day for more prizes. We will be sending the Red Cross receipt to Bridgestone, as well as posting it here on Bimmerforums.
Thank you Bridgestone and thanks to everyone who supports this effort.

agapehme 04-01-2003, 05:08 PM Brian, I am in!!! By the way, I'll have you know that will be $8.00 Canadian....hehehe!!!!!
alexd 04-01-2003, 05:20 PM Brian - name of the dealer is New Country Porsche of Greenwich. I am sure if you ask Patrizio he will send you a picture of it. Glad I could help, my dad said he is giving you a great deal on it.
Cheers.
Great idea about the Red Cross donations!!
alexd 04-03-2003, 10:22 AM Brian - lets have some updates on the Boxster!! Talked to my dad last night and they had a crazy day and were unable to take pictures, but Patrizio was going to do it today.
BMLRacer 04-03-2003, 10:27 AM We're working on it. I'm awaiting the deposit on my car and am going to forward it right over to your Dad. The deal is looking really good. We're still trying to figure out how to get either me up to Greenwich or the car down to Shea when I'm in NYC in mid-May. Although, Jen is itching for a new car NOW...
I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the car, just so I know fo sho that it is the car I need to have.
Next I need to order wheels, shocks, springs, intake, exhaust, software, etc, etc, etc for the P car.......
Brian

Sounds good, you can get an eSaver with US Airways to White Plains for like $120 from Pittsburgh. I am sure getting it down to you in NYC will be no problem. You can also take the train right into Greenwich for like $10, it is about a 20 minute ride.
Tell my dad what you are looking for as far as extras, he should be able to either help or put you in touch with people.
Glad things are working out!!

BMLRacer 04-04-2003, 02:00 AM Hey gang,
There is only 1 BMW dyno slot available for Dent Fest and Dyno Day. It is at 12.40pm. After all of the BMW Only slots are filled, we will open the ramaining slots on a first come first served basis. Don't be shy about getting in on some of the last hour or first hour slots, we only left them available for "off brand" owners who might show up. But, if you want to run that Bimmer on the dyno, get yourself signed up.
Also, there has been some concern from some of our "less technical" members about the "serious performanceness" of the event. Please, by all means, come out and have fun. We won't be comparing nuclear physics (unless that's your thing :) ), rather it will be a bunch of friendly car people swapping stories and spending a fun saturday afternoon together.
See you there.

I want that last slot if it's not taken yet, however I still need to sign up on paypal tomorrow to reserve it, can you put me down until then?

nevermind, I just signed up!:D
TiChick 04-04-2003, 12:30 PM How long do dynos usually take? If things work out, maybe a few more can be squeezed in, or people might not show up?
Don't get your hopes up, but don't NOT show up just because you can't sign up for a dyno time.
I still want to dyno my car, but I wanted everyone to get preferred times first. I hope I don't miss out!
agapehme 04-04-2003, 12:33 PM Me too Lisa since I lost my spot. We will be coming down anyway, even if it's just for dinner.
BMLRacer 04-04-2003, 12:56 PM Andre,
Don't worry, just sign up in one of the "off brand" spots. We were only holding them for people with other cars, not excluding BMW's from them. If you want to spin that bad boy on the rollers, get signed up. Also, as Lisa was saying, we might be able to squeeze a few extra cars on the dyno, but we wont be taking reservations.
Please watch for AlexD's special announcement. Seems Alex has secured Dent Fest another sponsor. Nice job Alex and thank you to our newest sponsor.

alexd 04-04-2003, 01:08 PM I talked to Andie Lin from Cobalt Friction Technologies and he would like to be a part of our get together.
As you all know Andie has been helping a lot of us here - not only with great prices on brake parts but with knowledge and advice that only comes with dealing with a true enthusiast.
Andie has offered 25% off one set of Cobalt Racing Brakes and 25% off one set of Axxis Ultimate brake pads. He will also be sending some T-Shirts to be raffled.
So whether it is now or 3 months from now let's not forget to check with Cobalt when we need brakes.
Thank you Andie for your continued support!!:buttrock

Renee M Coupe 04-04-2003, 02:05 PM Fill up the non-BMW slots with BMWs. :D Not as much interest as we had thought.
The local Z3 club has a lunch and drive scheduled for that day, they will caravan in around 1:00 or 2:00.
Renee
alexd 04-04-2003, 02:30 PM I just ordered my Cobalt GTR-Spec VR's for the track - looking forward to using them!!
bimmer95 04-04-2003, 06:56 PM I just updated the sign up page, the last three spots of the day are BMW only now ;) Hopefully the dyno techs will work fast enough to squeeze in 4+ per hour for those that don't get a chance to sign up. They'll be able to at least do three per hour, hence the sign up :)
Garys 04-04-2003, 07:20 PM Anyone selling strut braces for an M roadster? If so e-mail me the price as I will be at the dyno fest. No dents yet!

BMLRacer 04-04-2003, 07:31 PM Well, the M3 will be making its last public appearence at Dent Fest, having a final photo shoot for Car Sound magazine, and heading to its proud new owner the first weekend of May. Deposits are in the mail for the M3 and ,in turn, for the Boxster. With that said, I present you.....Brian's new car. Let the modding begin.....
BMLRacer 04-04-2003, 07:32 PM front...license plate bracket won't make it off the lot...

agapehme 04-04-2003, 07:52 PM Hey Brian!!!!! Save the rubbing for later.......hehehe!!! Good for you.
VOLSBimmer 04-04-2003, 07:56 PM How fast is that new Boxster?
I really like the newer rear bumper around the exhaust!
What size rims are those?
Garys 04-04-2003, 08:02 PM Will it beat an 2000 M roadster?
BMLRacer 04-04-2003, 08:04 PM The new 03 Boxster has 225HP, it is listed and tested with 0-60 in the low 6 sec. range. It's not a rocketship, but it is a great handling car. And, you'll never know what I'll come up with for it.....
The wheels are the 17" Boxster S II wheels. I wanted the 18" Carrera wheels, but I'll just have to order something and keep the 17's for track wheels.
I'm really fired up to pick up the new car in mid May. But, 6 weeks is a long wait.
She'll get a full cleaning when I get it home, but the dealer will disguard all of the plastic wrap and shipping junk.
alexd 04-05-2003, 11:27 PM Looks good Brian!! I saw it late Friday night when we stopped in to the dealer. I know you will be very happy with it.
I drove for the first time the Cayenne Turbo S - 450 HP of blistering fun. What an incredible machine!!!

BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 10:03 AM Right now we have close to 100 signed up and the event was posted in the local BMWCCA newsletter that just arrived yesterday. If we have a nice day, I don't think it would be out of line to see 200 cars throughout the day.
I spoke with Ed and Eric from Dent Solutions yesterday. They have asked to set up shop away from all the traffic so that they can work in reletive peace. When it is your turn to have work done, you will drive over to their tent and have the work done. They said that the work goes quicker and easier without a flock of people looking over their shoulders. They are happy to demonstrate what they are doing and will gladly work with you one on one.
Finally, I need to get a rough lunch count. Right now the plan is to feed between 60 and 80 people. We have an order of 20 Large pizzas comming from a local shop. We have also bought 10 cases of soda and some water. If we need to order more, we need to know soon. Lunch will be $5 per person and you will be given a wrist band. Please email me if you have any questions or special requests.

BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 10:14 AM Alex,
I had one hell of a time getting a local dealer to let me spin an 03 Boxster around the block. They wanted to "talk numbers" first and were even willing to give me a whopping $1500 off sticker as a "good customer discount". I pretty much laughed and walked away. Fortunatly, a friends father has an 01 S that he was more than willing to let me drive. I drove it fo about an hour yesterday and had a nice time. Since the new car is down 20hp to the S, I didn't really romp on it, I just got a feel for things. I think that the changes to the 03 will make it a very similar package to the older S, especially since they both have the same suspension. I was really happy and think I'm making the right decision. I did, however, get some troublesome news over the weekend about the sale of my car. It shouldn't be a big deal, rather a hurdle that we ave to get over. I should be on track again by the end of the week. I need to call Patrizio today.
Hope you had a good weekend up in CT.
Brian
alexd 04-08-2003, 10:27 AM Count me in for lunch and if you guys need any help, let me know what I can do. I plan on being there at or before 10.
Sounds like you are getting excited about the car - good for you!! Weekend was relaxing, helped my dad in the garage - very low key. I hope all goes smooth with the sale.
Cheers,
Alex
TiChick 04-08-2003, 11:29 AM Just to let you all know, the dyno times have all been reserved.
This is going to be a great event. Even if you could not sign up for a dyno time, there will still be fun activities: the raffle from lots of cool vendors that benefits the Red Cross, showing off your cool ride, getting those dings removed from the magical dent master, and the chance to hang out with other car enthusiasts at the swanky automotive shop, Auto Assets.
I'm volunteering myself as the official SO (significant other) representative. I am pretty familiar with cars, but I'm not mechanically inclined. If you're bringing someone who isn't into cars, but you really want to go, I'll make sure there's stuff for him/her to do.
See you all there,
Lisa
BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 11:34 AM Rock On Lisa!!!
I haven't had a chance to call Chip yet today. Jen woked from 7a until 11.30p yesterday and today is supposed to be her day off. She's still in bed and I'm waiting on the lazy UPS guy to drop off 8 35lb boxes from Bridgestone. Looks like they're sending us a lot of stuff to give away with that Red Cross donation. Andy and I are going to detail the M3 one last time tomorrow afternoon, so that might be the perfect time to visit Chip. The last time I was there, they had the Porsche 956 on the floor and the GT3RS in the back. Hopefully Chip can have a nice stable of Porsche racing cars for everyone to gawk at throughout the day.
I'll call you after I'm done making lunch.
Brian
BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 02:40 PM UPS just dropped off supplies for Dent Fest and Dyno Day from our main sponsor, Bridgestone. Here is a pic of the 8 boxes, each over 20lbs that they sent for the event. And No, we didn't get any of the fancy John Deere Mugs.......
BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 04:05 PM And here is what you'll get from Bridgestone if you make a $5.00 or less donation to the Red Cross at the event.
You'll receive:
1 Bridgestone bag
1 Bridgestone Hat
1 Bridgestone Luggage Tag
1 Bridgestone Pen
12 Bridgestone Tire Info Sheets
also in your bag of goodies:
1 Raffle Ticket for prizes supplied by Apexcone.com, Carbon Fiber Solutions, MPact Motorsports, Cobalt Friction, and more.
Bridgestone has also supplied us with lots of banners, pennents, and more to make our event look "official". Dent Fest and Dyno Day will also be featured on the Bridgestone website in the near future.

BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 04:29 PM Not that I've ever been to a titty bar, but let me give you some ideas in the Northwest side of Columbus. Look for Columbus Gold to have the best "feature" of the city. Right next door is Pure Platinum. PP is a BYOB place and if you want to be a step ahead of the frat boys and their styrofoam cooler of beer, bring the following: tequilla (for the hardcore girls), peach schnapps (for the girls that like the fruity stuff), some shot cups, a bottle of Vodka, and some beer. Set up a mini bar at your table and you'll be rewarded with naked chicks hanging around all night. Again, not that I've ever been to a nudie bar or slept with a peeler... :)

BMLRacer 04-08-2003, 10:33 PM No, a nickle won't get you a raffle ticket, but 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, etc will. We don't want people coming out and being like "damn, I spent $80 for a dyno run, lunch, and a goodie bag". Donate what feels right to you, not what we tell you. If some 5y.o kid puts in $.50, you betcha he'll get a goodie bag.
Matthew C Smith 04-08-2003, 10:36 PM alright, thanks Brian.
:D
