View Full Version : Dent & Dyno Day bimmer95 04-14-2003, 11:51 AM I'll send out an email tonight or tomorrow with driving directions, etc. Stay tuned :) Firefighter 04-14-2003, 11:53 AM Ok cool BMLRacer 04-16-2003, 08:56 PM Hello everyone!! Dent Fest 2004 is just 3 days away! I hope you all are as excited about it as we are. I just wanted to ht on a few points so as to limit confusion on Saturday. - There will be NO ALCOHOL available or consumed at the event. Also, NO burnouts, either at the event or on the roads near the the event. This also applies to taking your pals car out for a test drive. If you want to go beat on someones car, go somewhere far away from the event and have your fun. We will not be responsible for you acting like a jackass, but we will ask you to leave the event. - You are responsible for your guests. What your guests do is a direct reflection of you. Please ask them to act accordingly. - We expect everyone to leave the attitudes at home. Come out and have a great time. The forcast is for clouds, but don't let a slightly gray day bum you out. - If you have any questions, comments, or need anything at the event, come see Chris, Lisa, or me and we'll do anything we can to help out. We will have name tags on so you'll be able to pick us out of a crowd. The 3 of us are the only spokespersons for the event. - Auto Assetts will be working hard on getting cars on and off the dyno. Please try to be available at least 1 hour before your scheduled dyno time. Auto Assetts will also be offering day of show discounts on detailing products, day of show sales, and day of sale orders. If you think there is something you might want, please ask them and they'll go to work for you. - Come out and have a great time. Rain or shine, we're going to have a great time! - Lunch will be available for $5.00 per person. You will receive a wrist band to show that you have paid for lunch. - Please bring pocket change for the Red Cross. With each donation you will receive a goodie bag from Bridgestone as well as a raffle ticket. Raffle prizes have been donated by Carbon Fiber Solutions, Understeer.com, Apexcone.com, Dent Solutions, Mpact Motorsports, Cobalt Friction, and others. We look forward to seeing evryone on saturday morning. Brian, Chris, Lisa, and everyone from Dent Fest BMLRacer 04-16-2003, 09:56 PM If you have questions about the event DO NOT CALL AUTO ASSETTS!!! They are busy enough and don't need a million calls about the event. Most of your questions can be answered by checking this thread or www.understeer.com At this point, we do not have a need for additional help. The people that are volunteering to help know who they are. Please come and enjoy yourselves and leave the work to us. Again, Dent Fest and Dyno Day is being held at Auto Assetts, not put on by Auto Assetts. Do not take it upon yourself to call and ask them how to help. Brian agapehme 04-17-2003, 06:23 AM We have two days left before DD&DF. For all the Michigan people interested in driving together on Saturday morning, drop me a PM. I will be leaving from the Detroit/Canadian border tralelling down the 75 South, then................to Auto Assetts alexd 04-17-2003, 02:08 PM How many are signed up so far?? bimmer95 04-17-2003, 02:12 PM The sign up list is nearly 100 names long, though I know of quite a few folks that are planning on attending, but didn't bother to sign up. alexd 04-17-2003, 02:14 PM Cool!! Andie from Cobalt was asking and I wasnt too sure. Firefighter 04-17-2003, 03:53 PM Hey guys, I am coming in from Indy, and I wanted to know if there is a BMW dealership near the Dent Fest Dyno meet ? I bought some clear corners for the front from Importvision and put them on yesterday, and they fit like CRAP !! I should say they don't fit!! I was wondering if anyone could check and see if there is a local dealer and if they have the front clear corners for my '97 M3 sedan ?!? The ones from Importvision.com are horrible! I have huge gaps between the fender and light, and they only have one notch on the clip to hold in. One side doesn't even reach the clip !! Sorry, just needed to vent! Thanks for any help anyone can provide ! Tim agapehme 04-17-2003, 04:45 PM Hello there Firefighter. I don't live in that area but I would be willing to get a set from the dealer and bring them down for you. bimmer95 04-17-2003, 05:08 PM The local BMW dealers here don't stock the clear corner lights, had you let me know a few hours earlier I could have had them VOR a pair... sorry :( BMLRacer 04-17-2003, 05:20 PM I remember seeing a complete set of clears on the shelf at Auto Assetts. However, I do not know if they are for the 2 or 4 door. Might be worth a quick email to Chip.Vance@autoassetts.com Tel him that you're coming down for Dent Fest. Or, have Agap pick some up on the other side of the bridge. agapehme 04-17-2003, 05:37 PM Hi Brian, can you confirm the email address to Auto Assetts. I sent a question to Chip myself but it came back undeliverable. bimmer95 04-17-2003, 05:37 PM Brian doesn't know how to spell "Assets" ;) BMLRacer 04-17-2003, 05:39 PM That, my friend, is because I am an idiot. The address is chip.vance@autoassets.com Sorry. Brian agapehme 04-17-2003, 05:39 PM Aahhhh Haaa!!!! bimmer95 04-17-2003, 05:44 PM :mdrbig ca415playa 04-17-2003, 06:23 PM Not to sound rude at all but myself and all the other Employees @ Auto Assets would love for this event to turn out sucessful as hell, but I think I speak for all of the other employees when I say we are a little in the Dark about who is going to be helping and who Isn't. I dont know If this is Chips poor communication or what but a little more involvment or discussion from the people who are puuting on the event to AA would be Great! Like who will be working what you kniw stuff like that....Let me know if Im talking out my ass. We would like to know whats going on. I just got a desperate feeling from chip the other day. Again maybe I am a jackass and dont know a thing about what im talking about, but let me know. My name is Joe and will probably be working the Dyno, I hope to see ya there!!! BMLRacer 04-17-2003, 08:28 PM Joe, Sorry that Chip has left you guys in the dark a bit. Chris, Lisa, Aaron, and I have been doing 99% of the planning. We want to bring AA a packaged event that is basically going to run itself. We've talked to Chip and have worked to address his concerns and comments, but it really has been our event to run. Last years event was run in basically the same manner and was a huge success. We are sure that everyone at AA will have just as much fun as we will, without the stress of being more than gracious hosts. Everyone on our end has been working hard to keep our hosts at Auto Assets from doing much more than hosting the event. That will allow the staff to do a bang up job in the shop and the showroom. We have asked all of the participants to come see us, not AA staff, if there are issues. In turn, only 4 of us will have to interact with Chip and the staff if a problem arises. I hope this makes sense to you. We want to make sure Auto Assets is not out of the loop, but rather a partner in the event. I;ll be at AA at 9a on Saturday. If you have questions, come find me. You should already know my car, as it's sitting in your back room. Also, Justin is an old friend, he knows hw to track me down. Brian BMLRacer 04-17-2003, 08:31 PM I just wanted to take a second and announce another door prize to go in the Red Cross raffle. BF member Rich D. has been kind enough to offer 4 tickets to any Cleveland Indians home game this season. Rich works for the Indians and you would be sitting in his seats. We will print out a gift certificate for the tickets and it will be the winners responsibility to contact Rich 7 business days before the game you would like to attend. Thank Rich! This is a great prize! Brian bimmer95 04-17-2003, 08:52 PM Awesome donation Rich! agapehme 04-17-2003, 09:52 PM Chris! what do they do and sell at AA? ca415playa 04-17-2003, 10:27 PM Hey Brian I didnt Meet you @ the lazy Chameleon last Saturday did I? Me and Justin were there acting like fools, as usual. ca415playa 04-17-2003, 10:31 PM Great, I guess I am just malinformed as to what is happening. I am just so used to the VW days and I really want to see this day be great. So I will be there doing everthing I can to make the event a more pleasureable experience. I thank all four of you for all your hard work and dedicantion in advance because I'm sure this event will soon be remembered. BMLRacer 04-18-2003, 06:31 AM Auto Assets is a full service facility. They are mainly a Porsche and VW shop, but take care of all european makes. They also have a very nice race shop, a body shop, and are the new headquarters of PAP (Porsche Audi Parts), one of the biggest Porsche parts business. THe entire facility is top notch. I think you'll all be impressed with the shop, the staff, and the cars they prepare. Joe, I'm an old married guy. Last Saturday night I was at home with the wife. I've known Justin since he was in HS. His mother dated a mutual friend (who is old enough to be our father, so don't get any ideas :) ). Anyway, Justin is a great kid. I'll be looking forward to seeing you both on Saturday. Like I said, I'll be there early, so if you have questions, come find me. I'm off to work then on a plane home. See everyone in the morning. Pray for sun shine. Brian LinearX 04-18-2003, 01:40 PM Tommorows Forecast for Powell as provided by Weather.com Partly Cloudy with a high of 78 and a low of 61. Mild humdity at 62%. Expect it to be a little muggy, but better than we had last year, where we proved we can have a great time no matter what the sky decides to throw at us! Looking forward to seeing you guys there. Doug alexd 04-18-2003, 06:29 PM Any of you guys have used brake pads fo ra 1995 318is? If you do bring them and I will buy them off of you. I think they are the same as the 325. Thanks!! VOLSBimmer 04-18-2003, 07:20 PM Is Columbus eastern or central time zone? I need to know this ASAP so I can guage when I need to leave here (Indianapolis which is central time zone) to get there on time. Thanks! TiChick 04-18-2003, 07:42 PM Eastern (EDT) VOLSBimmer 04-19-2003, 01:01 AM So is there a mod fest at Chris's place tonight? I'll be waking up at 5:30am, so time to go to bed;) krogerBMW 04-19-2003, 04:27 PM It couldn't have been a better day outside for the event. Chris and Brian you did a great job in picking the loacation and setting up the event thanks again... Auto Assets was a great place. I think I still have a smile on my face after I heard the numbers from the GTS:D Looking forward to next years... Hopefully I'll have a fun toy of my own:devillook Oxcart 1 04-19-2003, 09:11 PM I got a bunch of pictures. 37 with my 2.25 mp, 101 with a 5.0 mp and then another 16meg card full of them with teh 5.0mp. Each of the 5 mega pixel ones is about a meg. Ill be hosting some on my site (the really good ones), all on a web shots deal after I register it (idea of chris), and maybe on my PC. I wish I had more time to talk with more people. Here is a link to some of my digital shots. I will have the film shots scanned in next week. http://community.webshots.com/album/70122318WeBweb Renee '99 M Coupe '90 Jetta GLI bimmer95 04-19-2003, 09:41 PM I am SO tired, but what a great day! Thanks to everyone that came out... especially those who drove in from West Virgina, Indy, Pennsylvania, Michigan and even Canada. It was really great finally meeting some a lot of non-local BF members in person :) Anyone that didn't come out: you missed an awesome event. The array of cars that showed up was really nice. There were plenty of modded E36 M3s, two M6s, lots of Z3s and a few E46 M3s. The day started out with a croud around the dyno to watch a pair of Vipers churn out 400rwhp each, followed up a much more low key looking new VW Bug putting 279whp. The dyno techs worked their way through 24 cars today, ending with Lisa's SCed 318ti putting down 190rwhp and 165ft/lbs. Justin(OKC) 04-19-2003, 09:50 PM Man, I wish I could have gone up for the event. More pics please!!! krogerBMW 04-19-2003, 10:04 PM Chris did they ever the printer working or saving the data from the Dyno runs? Just curious...We had to take off before that problem/dely was fixed... Thanks again the event was a blast and a beautiful day... Another coupe I see showed up:bawl Shoulda stuck around for just a lil bit longer... Next year or another event... Looking forward to putting names to faces again Mike bimmer95 04-19-2003, 10:08 PM Actually they didn't manage to get the printer working. They're planning on printing them Monday or ASAP and mailing the pages to everyone. I'll keep you posted if I hear an ETA on those. Helmetboy 04-19-2003, 10:09 PM Chris, Lisa, and Brian, Thanks for putting everything together, it is about time I met some of the people on bimmerforums. It was awesome that you guys from Indy and Penn, and elsewhere came out! Thanks everyone for making it a great day!! -Randy Oxcart 1 04-19-2003, 10:18 PM Iam going to try and just lower the size to 800*600 for all of them (with lower resolution) as each one is a meg and 2560*1920. If you want a higher resolution shot of a particular car let me know and Ill upload it. I tried to get a pic of a lot of peoples car. http://www.k8xu.com/bmw/dentfest2/avusbluebeatch.jpg VOLSBimmer 04-19-2003, 10:19 PM THanks again for getting all of that put together, I had a lot of fun! I've got a bunch of pics, will post sometime pretty soon! Oxcart 1 04-20-2003, 03:08 AM http://www.k8xu.com/bmw/dentfest2/ BMLRacer 04-20-2003, 11:50 AM Thank you so much to everyone who came out! Dent fest and Dyno day (and rear shock washer day as Chip liked to add :) ) was a huge success thanks to all of you who came and spent part of their day with us. Auto Assetts set a new one day dyno record with 24 cars on the rollers. Heck, even after they were standing around drinking an end of the day beer, they still insisted on getting a few more cars on the dyno, including my M3 (245 SAE at the wheels on a 3rd gear pull...that means the corrected HP is roughly 305-310 with stock headers and cats. The dyno operators quote with a big grin on his face after the first pull "this one runs" But, enough about me). Auto Assets was a wonderful host and we sure hope to do more events with them in the future. Thanks to Lisa for (wo)maning the lunch and raffle table, a big thanks to Aaron and Renee for spending their day taking photos and quickly getting them up for all to see, and a special thanks to the guys crawling under cars and strapping them down all day. We also need to thank Ed and Eric Claeys from Dent Solutions for coming out and doing their thing. If anyone didn't get a chance to have work done, Dent Solutions will offer a Dent Fest discount for the next 30 days. Finally, we need to thank our sponsors and raffle donors, Bridgestone, Auto Assets, Dent Solutions, Alex at Carbon Fiber Solutions (alex, kick me if that's wrong), Understeer.com, RichD (for the Cleveland Indians tickets and for bringing donuts), Cobalt Friction, Apexcone.com, and more. We will look forward to seeing you all at an event soon. Personally, I'm going to miss owning a BMW, but I'm happy that I'll still have all the great BMW friends that I've made. Trust me, I might be driving a Porsche soon, but I'll always be a BMW guy at heart (and, once they fire Bangle, I'll buy another BMW :) ). As the joke goes, what is the difference between a Porsche owner and a porcupine? On the porcupine the pricks are on the outside.... Thank you all so very much! Brian PS, when the tent was torn down yesterday, someone made off with all of the unclaimed raffle prizes. If anyone knows what happened to them, please let me know. Everything was in a small box on top of my large Bridgestone box. We are missing the following: 2 Porsche Motorsport Tshirts (1 XL and 1 Lrg), 1 Lrg Porsche 996 Tshirt, 1 XL Cobalt Friction shirt, Dent Solutions and Apexcone gift certificates. Please help us find this stuff so we can get it to the raffle winners. This is the only dark spot of the day. A reward will be made for the safe return of this stuff. ca415playa 04-20-2003, 05:11 PM Brain, sorry to hear about your loss. I was very happy with the way things turned out and I hope so is the guy with the shocks. I really enjoyed climbing underneath those buetiful bavarian machines...and Vipers;-) I didnt get a chance to go around and meet everyone like i would have hoped to, sorry. At the end of day my 95 ///M put down 128rwhp!!!!!!!! That is with a fidanza flywheel 3.2l clutch kit, K&n Dropin with the usual airbox restriction mods. also a B&M short throw with delrin bushings, and uuc tranny mounts. No cai, no exhaust, no software, no hfm, and no cams!!!! This car has been such a rough time for me and my friends @ Auto Assets but I think after that everyone had a big bright smile on their face, maybe it was all worth it. On behalf of the AA team I want to thank everyone who showed up, and especially want to thank everyone who helped make this day possible Matthew C Smith 04-20-2003, 08:03 PM I just want to thank everybody Chris, Brian, Aaron, Renee, and Lisa along with everybody at Auto Assets for putting on such a great event. I had a lot of fun. It was cool to meet a lot of the BMW people in the area. Sorry to everybody for my dumbass move with the shock washers. Nuff said about that one! I totally forgot about the raffle bags, is there someway I could drop a donation off and grab a bag. Don't much care about the raffle, but those hats are nice! I'll be in Columbus saturday if that helps. Here are a few of the pictures I took along with a link to all of them http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~smithm3/projects/DF03/ http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~smithm3/images/DF03/large/DF03_29_big.jpg http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~smithm3/images/DF03/large/DF03_23_big.jpg http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~smithm3/images/DF03/large/DF03_32_big.jpg Oxcart 1 04-20-2003, 09:43 PM I jsut found some more. I ll post them later I guess. rdorffer 04-20-2003, 11:08 PM Originally posted by ca415playa At the end of day my 95 ///M put down 128rwhp!!!!!!!! No cai, no exhaust, no software, no hfm, and no cams!!!! I assume you meant 228 rwhp? If so, how on earth did you make 228 rwhp on a stock 1995 M3? I know it wasn't with the K&N filter. The highest I have ever heard on a stock 1995 M3 was 223 rwhp which is very, very high. Normal is more like 195 - 205 rwhp. I had 222.6 rwhp with my 1995 M3 (highest of the day of the normally aspirated Ms up until I left at 3:30 PM that I saw...Brian obviously went later in the day) with Conforti intake and Conforti chip. My goal is 250+ rwhp normally aspirated which shouldn't be too hard with the mods I have coming down the road. Oh yeah, thanks to everyone involved... Later, Rich PS - Brian, I think your being a little generous on your drive train loss factor (20%) :) Using your math, my car would be making 278 hp at the crank. I am figuring about 268 hp at the crank using 17%. bimmer95 04-20-2003, 11:15 PM FYI, to correct for a 17% loss you actually do multiply by 1.2 => 1/(1-.17)=1.205 ;) Justin(OKC) 04-20-2003, 11:22 PM I don't understand why Brian did a 3rd gear pull. I know that most of the guys on the 300ZX boards make a point to dyno cars in 4th gear so that the transmission gearing does not enter the equation (1:1). If one followed that, everyone with an M3 should be dynoing their cars in 5th gear. Why is there such a difference? BTW: The pics look GREAT!!! I can't believe I wasn't able to attend:( Firefighter 04-20-2003, 11:22 PM Hey guys! Just wanted to say I had a great time at the event!! There were some really nice rides there. Thanks to everyone that put the event on. It was nice putting some faces to the names :) I got some nice pics too! Thanks!! Tim bimmer95 04-20-2003, 11:24 PM I don't know how the heck Joe's M3 made 227rwhp and some change. All it's got is an aluminum flywheel, K&N drop in and the fan delete mod. It is an early build date M3 (mid-'94) so it may have higher compression. Very interesting though. bimmer95 04-20-2003, 11:31 PM Originally posted by Justin(OKC) I don't understand why Brian did a 3rd gear pull. Apparently spinning the dyno to 80mph is less stressful on the dyno than spinning it to 120. I was kinda ticked off at the shop I dynoed my M3 at a few weeks back right after I installed my new cams, they dynoed in 3rd, but last year they ran it in 4th. I'm half tempted to take it back over and have them run it again in 4th for a better comparison. agapehme 04-20-2003, 11:52 PM I would like to try and paint a picture of my/ and my wife’s experience on Saturday at Dent Fest, Auto Assetts, in Columbus Ohio. I have been driving BMW's for quite a long time. Beginning with a 1976 2002 to my current 97 M3/4. I have seen several changes in the attitudes of BMW owners and their gatherings, where people are made to feel inferior and not welcomed if you don't have the latest mods, the lingo or the monogrammed attire. I have kept going to these events over the years because of the marque and the hope of meeting people with a genuine heart for friendship and sharing the love of our BMW's. However, I must say that Saturday's gathering was probably the best I have been to in quite some time. It was definately not like what I described above. It was very unusual to be approached by others introducing themselves and making genuine conversation. It was also good to finally put a face to "usernames" The selection of cars were absolutely amazing and the host, Auto Assetts and the entire staff, did a really good job at making guest feel comfortable. Well done!!!! To Chris, the first to introduce himself, Brian and Lisa, thank you for your hard work in putting this event together. It was worth every minute of the 3+hours drive to Columbus. Lisa, thank you for making my wife feel comfortable being there. Aaron it was also nice to meet you. Renee, it was nice to meet you too.:D For those who I did not mention, thanks for making the event memorable. I look forward to coming back to Columbus to another event soon. agapehme 04-20-2003, 11:57 PM Hi there Chris, I did not get my results from my run, but I was told that it was 225rwhp. Not sure though. I'll let you know when I get the data. bimmer95 04-21-2003, 12:07 AM Hey Andre, I'm so glad you and the Mrs had a good time :) Everyone was really digging your headlight washers! Auto Assets had their printer die early in the morning, so they're going to mail out hard copies of the dyno runs ASAP. I'll check back with them in a day or two to see when they're going to mail out... plus I want the print out for Lisa's 318ti ;) agapehme 04-21-2003, 12:26 AM Yes, we had a good time and dinner was very good. Lisa's car was very nice and it surely impressed my wife. Very imprressive also was the dyno run with Lisa's car. Good job Chris!!! Well, time for bed, early day ahead. 6am comes quickly. Oxcart 1 04-21-2003, 01:25 AM http://www.k8xu.com/bmw/dentfest2/additions/ there are a few more pictures I found. Couple viper pics and the likes. I had a great time even without my car. Andre it was nice meeting you too. I told everyone, “hey look we had people come down from Canada for this!!!” I heard a couple people say “hey I thought it would be bigger than this”, but I can say that we defiantly had probably 70 maybe more BMWs there total since you could count ¾ of that at one time. I know a lot of people that were there at 10am left around noon, as we got different people arriving around noon. Good turn out. Hope we see every one next year! alexd 04-21-2003, 07:48 AM Hey guys and girls chiming in a little late here. Just wanted to say it was great meeting everyong and the event was incredible. Brian, Chris and Lisa - great job on an awesome event!! Let's do it again in the fall. Brian do you knowo who ended up with my gift cert? That sucks about the missing box, I hope it turns up. Aaron I did not put 2 and 2 together when I was talking to you that you were Oxcart from here - my apologies for not really formally introducing myself - I hope you enloy the dash panel. I have some pics that I took that will be getting put up soon. Alex GTi Giant 04-21-2003, 08:18 AM I am one of the non-bimmer guys who showed up just to hang out and watch. It was fun meeting a lot of you, and thanx Renee for the ride in the coupe. Too bad it is just a little to small for me ;) I don't remember the names of most of the people I met, but it was a lot of fun. BTW, how did Lisa's TI dyno? I had to leave before it was put up on the rollers. ASCH MAN 04-21-2003, 09:37 AM Chris, Brian and Lisa. You did a great job putting the event together. Aside from a little sunburn, it was a very nice day and the weather was perfect. Oxcart, thanks for all the pictures. Those are the first I have of my car in digital format. Hope we can make a yearly event out of it. Chris, are we still on for the Airbag Light Reset tool, I can't wait to get rid of that light. I will also contact you in the next week about the Fan Delete and new water pump. I have decided to go ahead and do it, and just put the fan back on in the really hot months (you may have to show me how). Thanks again for the great day, everyone was so nice and willing to talk about their cars and what they did to them. bimmer95 04-21-2003, 09:52 AM Originally posted by AudioMan Hope we can make a yearly event out of it. It already is :) This was actually the 2nd anual DF&DD, last year it was at Passen Motorsports in Westerville. We're definitely on for the SRS rest tool, I'll probably pick that up in a week or two. GTi - Lisa's SCed 318ti put down 190rwhp and ~162ft/lbs (don't remember the exact TQ, but I should have a print out in a few days). MCoupeMike 04-21-2003, 09:52 AM Jessica and I had a great time. It was nice to meet everyone in person. Chris - thanks for doing my fan delete mod - I know you had lots to do in preparation for saturday's event and appreciate the fact you were up all night friday night and made the time to do my car. Lisa - thanks for the sugar cookies and the hospitality Renee - Hope I didn't scare you too bad on our fun run friday night :D - we'll have to hook up again soon. Jessica took a TON of pictures (over 100) but I have no place to host them quite yet. I'll let you all know when I get them out there... 83iS 04-21-2003, 09:56 AM Brian, Chris and Lisa Great job on the event i'm glad that i can finnaly put some faces to names! It was a great day for the event and a great group I really enjoyed Drooling over everyones cars. I am pretty confident I know the math. Regards, Rich bimmer95 04-21-2003, 01:01 PM Ahhh, yeah Brian was also being optomistic about the difference between a 3rd gear pull vs a 4th gear pull. I think Chip (@Auto Assets) told Brian they sometimes see a 5% diff between 3rd vs 4th. Whatever the case, it runs pretty dang good :) agapehme 04-21-2003, 01:02 PM A big thanks to Aaron, Renee and Matthew for those wonderfull pictures. WhenI was looking at it a couple people thought it was looks nice. :dunno OOOH sorry, I meant no disrespect. Nevertheless, it is a great looking car. I love the color + wheel combination. Thanks for all of your quick replies to my question. I thought when I got a BMW I would become a member of a pretentious community, but I couldn't have been more wrong. One of the great things about this meet was that I didn't notice any condescending attitudes. Everyone was very friendly and approachable and there was a great deal of respect, regardless of your ride or number of mods. Very cool:12: BMLRacer 04-21-2003, 06:18 PM All the pulls with my car were in 3rd gear. 244.9hp and 220.1tq were the numbers it made. As I stood there scratching my head Chip told me that the dyno has a very low correction factor and that all pulls were made in 3rd gear. I shall bug Chip and get the equation they use, he explained it to me quick, but I didn't pay alot of attention. His number off the top of his head to me was 305-310 based on what Porsche motors do on his dyno (FYI, Porsche uses something like a 12% driveline loss). Anyway, I was bummed to not have done a 4th gear pull and had I known they were doing it in 3rd, I would have pushed for one more pull, but in 4th..just for grins. Oxcart has a pic of the computer screen and from the chart, it pulls like a freight train to the top. All in all, AA claims it made the most of any NA BMW that they've ever had on their rollers. I haven't seen the video (my hotel room connection blows), but I hear it's pretty cool. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to stick it up there and see a bunch of tired car guys grinning like school kids when it popped some nice numbers. Alex, your gift certificate was in the missing box. If someone tries to present it, kick them in the head. I'm hoping that we track down the missing stuff. I'm kinda pissed about it. Again, thanks to everyone who came out. I was so excited to meet everyone. Funny story, Chris introduced me to Andre when I was in the middle of running around. I said hi for a quick second and excused my slef. As I'm running away, I turn to Chris, who is standing with Andre, and say "has the guy from Canada shown up yet?". Guess who I had just met? Andre, the guy from Canada. We all had a quick laugh at my expense. Andre and his wife had another laugh on me, as my cell phone rings to "Oh Canada"........ The pricing may seem expensive at first, example the three day racing school but price also includes insurance. Also they are SCCA recognized unlike most out there. The BMWCCA schools, which I am a member and have participated in, is also quite good in their own way. Most instructors drive BMW and some race them, which is a benefit to us BMW owners. The #'s shown are: For HP: run 1: 165 run 2: 166 run 3: 175 For Torque: run 1: 180 run 2: 180 run 3: 188 They showed me a best of 184 hp and 196 torque on the computer after the run was completed, and said it was almost identical to Matt Smith's #'s. Is there a way to view the torque and the horsepower together on the same graph? Here are my dyno runs (1995 M3 with Conforti chip and Intake): bimmer95 04-28-2003, 12:14 AM Yup, click on the right side of the window where it says "None", a little box will pop up allowing you to pick "Torque". rdorffer 04-28-2003, 12:30 AM I was pretty happy with my results. I have some pretty intesting plans in the near future along with some plans later this year. I will be sure to do more dyno runs before and after my plans to see how they compare with these results. My goal is 300+ hp (at the crank) or 250+ rwhp which seems feasible based on the baseline results. Also, based on the MPH on my graphs, my runs were done in third gear :az: So, does that mean I get to add 5% to the correction factor :12: (ala Brian/AA's math....just kidding Brian)? Based on the AA math, I would be looking at 285 hp at the crank (too high in my opinion). I think I will stick with a 17% correction factor even for my third gear runs which gives me 269 hp which seems pretty solid with my car and the minor modifications. Other than Brian's M3, my results were right there with Joe (who looks like he pulled 228 rwhp). Our dyno plots are nearly mirror images except Joe's peak out a little higher at the top end (6,000+ rpms). Joe, what kind of mods does you 1995 M3 have? Later, Rich bimmer95 04-28-2003, 01:02 AM I'm gonna try to get a copy of the data for my M3 from Passen in the next week or so. My dad feels terrible and is doing everything he can to rectify the situation, and if anyone can make it right he can. Do me a favor email me at adpa2003@yahoo.com so we can discuss this more. ASCH MAN 05-07-2003, 01:44 PM Since you are leaving us in suspense, let me just make up the story that we want to know. -EDIT:: Nevermind, we will just wait until things iron themselves out. agapehme 05-07-2003, 02:13 PM I do believe speculation should be left out of this completely. It's a dangerous thing to say something even in jest that may offend. Give them the opportunity to work things out and then share with us the issue/s and resolution if so desired. alexd 05-07-2003, 02:31 PM Neither. Thanks agapehme. BMLRacer 05-07-2003, 06:04 PM Alex, I know that things happen. I'm not calling your dad, Patrizzio, or anyone at the dealer names. But, in a way, I did get F'd. Probably not on purpose, but F'd either way. I was planning on picking up a new car on monday and now I can't because someone screwed up, thus screwing me. The thing that burns me most is the way it is being handled, Patrizzio made it sound like he was doing me a favor in offering me another car (that he know I wouldn't want) at the same price, instead of manning up and taking one on the chin. I'm still so pissed off I can't see straight. I'll email and we can talk more. I'm in no way insulting you, your father, or his people, I'm pissed about the situation that someones F up put me in. ASCH MAN 05-07-2003, 09:56 PM Oh, you didn't want to leave the BMW world anyway. Just get a 2001 M5 and call it a day. The M5 would run circles around the Boxter and you can mod it up to 500 HP NA, at least DINAN did, so it is possible. Then you can teach some Vipers a lesson. :redspot |
