my school has an 87 535i for sale and i wanna buy it, the problem is after you start it (bout 10 seconds) it runs extremely choppy at idle but above 1500rpm it runs fine i have fixed all the vacuum lines on it and the distributor cap, but its missing its oxygen sensor would that be the cause of it running choppy?
oh ya and the plugs are like full on black and reek of gasoline, i would belive this to be a full rich or limp mode the DME goes into when it doesnt receive a signal from the o2 sensor? idk.....

That would definitely affect the way the car idles and runs. The FI and O2 sensor talk and adjusts the fuel according to what the O2 sensor reads. If you do not have one, the car will open the injectors full on to try and get it running right. Replace the sensor and see if that helps.
