I was thinking about getting a performance chip. I've heard about a Jet chip? And is a stage 1 chip, as good a s a stage 2 chip? I'm not really sure. Any thoughts on them. I heard they really pep your car up. Could I install it myself? Do I need to change any other parts? I know it's a lot of questions? Any information would be helpful. Thank you very much.

You car is a '98. There is no "chip" available for OBD-II systems. You have to have the ECU reflashed.

Dinan is great - especially the Dinan sw + Dinan exhaust + CAI. I could not believe how much more HP I had compared to stock.

whats a good chip for the m42? i've always wondered, but searching just leads me to tons of opinions and people saying the 4cylinder sucks. haha.

yeah that gets so annoying when thats all people say when you ask for help doesnt it?

I have a Jim Conforti chip, and it is good, but After finally having my car Dyno'd, I notice that my air fuel ratio is pretty bad, with some huge spikes and valleys. So I dont know if I'd recommend the same chip.

here is the graph. I actually just finished installing a SAFC2 to fix up that air fuel curve. I'll have a new dyno sheet to show everyone sometime this week hopefully

Only mods are the chip and a custom cold air intake.

well its easy. The bottom black line goes with the numbers on the left. Its the air fuel ratio curve. goes from 12.x to like 14.x

The other 2 lines, well the one that starts of higher in the begining is the torque curve. and the other line is the HP. each line there are 3 of because there are 3 ones on this one graph.

At the bottom is the RPMs, so you can see the HP at each rpm, etc.

do you see it?

yes very noticeable, I just really dont like that big lean spike.. you see it right at 4800 rpm? the power falls off right there for a minute, I always noticed it.

Well get a turner chip. It might be the same as coforti, but supposedly its just as good.

I think mine was 250 years ago. check out turner and other sites for more info.

Yes you can definatly do it yorself if you can use a screw driver and other simple tools.

I have found performance chips on EBAY. There are 3 or 4 different brands, but they all basically claim to do the same thing. Increase HP, and gas mileage. I tried to post a link, but the forum won't let me. But if you search performance chips BMW on EBAY, they will pop up. What do you think of them? Do they work? Thank you.

basically those ebay 'chips' are big resisters that make your ecu think its hotter out so it gives less fuel and you run leaner. doesnt do shit and isnt good for your motor.
