Hey folks. My mechanic has a cheap 98 740i available that he said drives great. I'll be taking a look at it on Monday. Since I'm currently bimmerless after selling my 525i, I will be looking to buy. :D
What should I expect from the e38, switching from an e34? Any extra maintenance concerns? Any input from other owners appreciated.

1. not sure how much you trust your mechanic but have a PPI done by somebody else so you'll know exactly what shape the car is in (and what expenses/repairs may be lurking in the background)
2. run a VIN service history check
3. if you are not a DIY kind of guy, consider an a/m warranty
Best of luck!

1. Trust my mechanic wholeheartedly - he did a wonderful job with my 525i and saved me money in the process. Anyone looking for a great indy shop in NYC should stop by Klezna Auto Collision & Repair 2630 St. Raymond Ave., Bronx, NY 10462.
2. Will do. Never a bad idea to know what you're getting into.
3. Don't know if the coverage justifies the costs. Insurance guys are quick to sell slow to pay :shifty
Thanks guys

within a year of ownership, had approximately $2K in warranty work done. Still have 2 years left on my coverage so it was a good move on my part. In a few weeks, I will be having a total front and rear end rebuild which will cost around $700 in parts, not sure on labor cost.
BTW, this will cost me $100 (deductible) :)

Sweet deal on the warranty. Which company do you use?

Platinum Plan with Mercury. If I were to do it all over again, EasyCare warranty gets a lot of good reviews...theirs is an exclusionary plan, much simpler IMHO
