I found a 1988 325 IC for $800 on craigslist...
timing chain broke.
It has new brakes, shocks and struts
Auto 130K
Never wrecked... looks pretty good on the outside
do you know how much it could be to get that fixed? Is that a pretty good deal for the miles?
Any help would be appreciated... I am thinking about jumping on this one.

This would be better in the E30 section

Belt, not chain.
The motor is toast ... m20 is a very high interference motor.
But yes, overall, a good deal as used m20s can be had for cheap nowadays.
edit: 500 dollars for a used engine and ... a few hours to swap them. Not worth rebuilding with how cheap they can be found.

The motor is toast ...
Not necessarily. As long as the pistons and bottom end weren't damaged, a junkyard head will be alright

Yes, but the pistons smash into the valves ... the valves open pretty far into the cylinder on a m20.
edit: that's why the suggested timing belt replacement interval is 50,000 miles.

You do not want to buy an auto car that does not run. For all you know the tranny was on it's way out, and they blew a head gasket.
And for $800 bucks, no thanks. I just bought an E34 535 5 speed for less than that, lol.

when i lot the timing in my E30 M20, the valves broke off and got fliped over, punching holes in the poistons, so the motor is probably toast
