I recently did the valley pan job and replaced everything since I was in that far.

For the last couple of days I get a p0116 error the temp gauge pegs in the corner and the service engine light comes on.

When I make checks both visual and with the computer. Temp is normal and all the fluids are normal too!

Any Ideas on the cause or suggestions for a fix are greatly appreciated.

As I understand it there are 3 temp sensors (if we're talking M70 here) - you could try connecting up a multimeter to measure their resistance changing as the temp warms up. This will tell you if you have a bad sensor or not.

If you already replaced the sensors - don't assume it's good just because it's new!!

Check the temp sensor connector at the t-stat housing. Could possibly be broken, loose or worse, sending coolant through the wire harness to the DME. Yes, i've seen this 2 times actually. Pull the connector and check for a tight, dry connection. hope this helps!

I have checked the above. Replaced the sensor.
Still having intermitten gauge pegging.
We are talking m62. From what I can see there is only one sensor, right?
I will keep an eye on it. Thinking about tracing the wires to ensure no issues with the wiring.
What else could go wrong, the gauge itself?

The gauge only flakes out in the morning and then only a couple of times. Everything is normal in the afternoon ride home.
