hi guys,i've had my e38 2001il for about a week,great car nav works fine,i would like to upgrade it to ver 29,i've been doing alot of reading but still confused a little.This what i've done so far,downloaded ver 29 from megauploads,downloaded nav cd key which i think i need because i have ver 16 on my mkIII.
My ? is which one to burn v29 mdf or mds,and for the cdkey do i burn just cdkey.img. there are two files on the ver 29 and three on cdkey.I have alchool 120% and read to burn at slowest speed,could someone give me a step by step on installing my new update,i'd like to get everything right the first time and not going to the steeler if i screw something up.

I did all my Nav upgrades about a year ago from MK2 to MK3. At the same time I added a 6:9 screen and a TV tuner. I had a lot going on all at once. I recall having to downgrade to the old firmware and upgrade back and forth a couple of times before it would "see" my new screen. Not sure if getting the 16:9, TV tuner and MK3 unit from europe was part of the problem. That's not really your question I know, but what I can tell you is that v29 is not necessary for the MK3. It's overkill and has features the MK3 can't use. I think there is a chart on E38.org that says the highest version the MK3 can make use of and from memory I believe it is version 24. I got mine off Ebay and it included a key disc also that I never needed to use.

3/163 is the "highest" MKIII can go with v22 to v28 as you'll see in link above. not sure about v29.

i have a 6:9 screen,where can i download v28 and which files do i burn,i'm pretty sure i'll need a cd key because my version is 16.2,my question is the cd key has three files which file do i burn,and which file do i burn on the v28 after downloading,if it tells me that i need a cdkey do i eject the v28 cd and insert the cdkey cd,sorry for being a PITA but i'm not sure how to do the step by step.

this is what i did ,downloaded v29 and cd key,turn key to pos 2 do not touch anything,inserted v29 gave me a screen with progress bar,after it finished it told me to insert key,put the cd key and voila everythin works like a charm,the only thing is that you can only choose 2 different colors for the screen when before i had choice of 3,thanks guys for your help.

It's an amazing combination of options available depending on what version firmware and which actual Nav unit you are using. For a while, I had my Nav unit out and was running the monitor by only the TV tuner. Which I dont' think anybody knew could happen and is now mentioned on BimmerNav.com. That had the most interesting options and choices including 6 color options. 3 daytime and 3 evening... I wish the TV tuner would drive the monitor with the Nav unit still in.
