when my top was working :-( the top would always hit the rear lid. I was told i need boot shocks/gas pressurized shock(s)? I looked everywhere to buy this but can't seem to find the place to buy it. i looked at pelican parts but it says the part they have is only for manually operated tops only (i drive a 99 M3 conv)? Or is this the one i can buy? Its the first one on the list:

Why not go to the dealer? They don't cost that much.

the part you want is 51258132679, times two. for stock replacement parts, i think you would be best off developing a relationship at the nearest dealership. my dealer gives me great deals on parts. i already get 10% off because i am a BMWCCA member, but sometimes they give me pricing as low as cost + 10%, which is the employee rate... and im not obligated to buy special order parts if i decide i dont want them when they arrive at the dealership.

Thanks but the part number you gave me isn't for the m3 convertibles. I think its this one but it says for manually operated tops 2 required. so since i drive the fully automatic, do i have to buy only one (i would buy from stealer but i know it would be hella expensive and i dont get any discount from there):

yes, actually it IS the part you need.

FYI - there are not a whole lot of differences between US E36 Ms and non-Ms. Especially when it comes to non-driving related parts.

I was gonna purchase the boot shocks aka Gas Pressurized shocks. I know i need to buy two of them but i don't know if pelicanparts is going to send me two or what??? Here is the link:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/S-mart.cgi?command=add&weight=0.5&itemid=54-31-8-135-313-BOE&itemname=Gas%20Pressurized%20Shock%2C%20%28For%20m anually%20operated%20tops%20only%29%20%32%20Req%2E %2C%20BMW%20E%33%36%20%33%20Series%2C%20All%20Conv ertible%20Models%20%28%31%39%39%32%2D%39%39%29%20B rand%3A%20Genuine%20BMW&itemprice=40.25&itemquant=1

Its $40 and the dealer charges $70/each so i am guessing i need to buy two of them from them?

i believe that is for one shock, and yes you will need two if you plan on replacing both. i am going to merge this wiht your other thread, since they are both about the same topic.

the price is about right for one shock, and the description doesnt say anything about including two shocks in one quantity order. if you are still unsure, you might want to call Pelican to verify since they are the only ones that will be able to tell you what exactly will be included in your order.
