I bought my wheels and they are in decent shape, except on the sides of the spokes the finish is coming off. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get them powder coated and how much it might cost.

View Full Version : Where can I get my wheels powder coated in MN? Free bump. Hogan 11-02-2007, 10:32 PM I got my M68s refinished this summer. $50 bucks a wheel and they looked great. Then a couple of days ago, I had new tires put on and the repainting got TRASHED!!!! I am so pissed. I don't know if I recommend repaint, its just not durable. Let me know how the powdercoating goes. Hogan 11-03-2007, 09:05 AM A friend of mine works at Pomps Tire here in Oshkosh. He had a connection for a guy that resurfaces wheels. When they were done they looked great, but just takeing the old tires off and new tires on really tore the new paint up pretty bad. Not only that, but when the old tires were being taken off, the guy hit the rim with the bead breaker and really mangled the rim. I think powder coating is supposed to be much more durable. We do have a powder coating shop here in Oshkosh also, but he needed the wheels without the tires, and already sandblasted. I think I should have gone that route. heartbreaker 11-03-2007, 04:48 PM j/w, what is the price difference between painting and powder coating? Hogan 11-03-2007, 10:06 PM It cost me 50 bucks a wheel for resurface and repaint. I don't think powder coating is alot more. A big issue though is like I said before. For powder coat, the tires have to be off the wheels. For repaint, they leave the tires on. heartbreaker 11-04-2007, 03:18 PM oh The_Stig 11-04-2007, 03:23 PM A friend of mine works at Pomps Tire here in Oshkosh. Hmm, that doesn't make me want to go that route haha. Well I'll have to check prices and find a place around here. MR2 11-04-2007, 03:42 PM I had the wheels for my evo powdercoated at this place. They did a great job. They will also do straightening and any sort of blemish repair. http://www.precisionwheels.com/index.html snuggz 11-09-2007, 03:13 PM I recently had some calipers and carriers done at All Color in Oregon (I know it's not exactly MN) with fantastic results... they will in fact do any color you want; they have a "wall o' paint chips" that's quite impressive. www.allcolorpowdercoating.com They have a minimum charge of $125 I believe, but you'd probably be looking at $200 - $400, depending on the labor involved. If you have access to a blasting cabinet, getting rid of the current finish yourself will save you some serious dough, as blasting is the most labor-intensive part, really... Also, a quick google search brought up this: http://www.powdercoating.org/members/custom/mn.htm seems like a pretty good list... The_Stig 11-09-2007, 05:53 PM Thanks for the responses! I'll check both places out. |
