View Full Version : Service Reset fkhatib 11-01-2007, 09:44 AM Why do I need to have my BMW service lights reset? Any advantages in doing so? Thanx Shardul 11-01-2007, 09:53 AM it just helps you keep track of when the service/oil chage is due. it is not hard to reset it you can do it yourself. go to b m w t i p s c o m they have instructions on how to do it. not resetting it will not affect the performance of the car. Any other way to reset the service lights ? Regards, Shardul 11-01-2007, 01:34 PM Thanx for the reply, I've checked the link my car is 530i 2002 and it seems that it doesn't have the data link connector. Any other way to reset the service lights ? Regards, is the service engine soon light on or the oil chage service. oil change serivce light canbe resetted via the dash. the service engine soon light has to be reseted with a ODB II scanner tool. if the service engine soon light in on something is wrong with your car. fkhatib 11-01-2007, 01:51 PM Alright I got it, At the bottom of the above link it says that for 2001+ cars no need for a reset tool, and it shows the instructions on how to reset the service lights, and it worked for me, one more queston came to my mind, is it also possible for 2001+ cars to have their fault codes read without a scanner ? Regards, no sir, you can go to autozone or any auto parts store they will read them for free. fkhatib 11-01-2007, 01:58 PM Yes Shardul, I meant to say the Oil Change lights, not the engine service. Thanx fkhatib 11-01-2007, 02:07 PM Ok, I need to have them read since im having (Trans Failsafe Prog) msg on my dash board, and the gear is stuck in a high gear, the 3rd gear I guess, I have replaced both the battery and alternator but still the problem not solved, I will take it to store and see what else could have caused that message. As I was trying to solve the problem, I run test no 21 that resets the car's OBC, so my question is will I still be able to have the codes read after resetting the OBC, or does resetting the OBC clears the fault codes as well? Regards, Shardul 11-01-2007, 02:15 PM you will still be able to read to codes after resetting the OBC. Fault codes are stored in the DME. fkhatib 11-01-2007, 02:19 PM Alright, thank you so much. |
