View Full Version : Dice kits.. Why??
fragzem 11-01-2007, 06:08 AM Why do we have to get rid of our CD-Changers for all this iPod integration crap???
I mean.. what about the damned cassette deck no one uses? Why dont they make a dice kit that goes in there?
konarider98 11-01-2007, 06:33 AM Cassette is inferior quality to hardwired through the amp. i love my dice/USA spec ipod integration on my DSP 540. i only spent 160 total on it.

how with the dsp module?
fragzem 11-01-2007, 07:28 AM i didnt mean plugging the thing in with a cassette adapter!
i meant why dont they make a unit that can replace the tape deck, rather than replacing the cd-changer! <grin>
Ozzel 11-01-2007, 09:53 AM fragzem, you're sittin' on a million dollar idea right there! :D
Alpina540i 11-01-2007, 09:55 AM Is dice is compatable with the dsp radios?

They do! It's called an aftermarket radio! ;) :stickoutt
00BMW540i6 11-01-2007, 10:02 AM Yes, but you have to get a DSP adapter with the DICE unit: http://www.europeanautosource.com/product_info.php?&products_id=284
I'm getting DICE b/c my CD Changer crapped out, and plus its a PITA not being able to access the CDs from inside the car. I always hated that about these cars.
howejt 11-01-2007, 10:53 AM Guess I'm lucky since my '01 530i has the optional $200 in-dash CD player from the factory. Best of both worlds... pop in a CD when necessary and I have my iPod available, too, through the interface.
If it is a problem, you might consider the in-dash CD retrofit.
Michael Star 11-01-2007, 11:09 AM Ya I too have the CD player, I just wish it would play MP3s.

the newer ones do, and you can swap your out for a 2004+ business cd player that will play mp3 (out of the x5 i think)
Mad Dog 20/20 11-01-2007, 04:52 PM I was reluctant to give-up my CD changer at first, but then I gave it some thought, and the ONLY thing one sacrifices w/ a DICE set-up is the ability to play a CD immediately after purchase at the record store. And if that is really THAT important to you, you can carry a portable CD player and plug it into the DICE AUX port. OR, theoretically, you could mount the CD changer in such a way that you could easily connect/disconnect it whenever you had a hot CD to play.
Generally speaking, MP3 is just a WAY better method of carrying around one's music. Instead of making multiple copies of favorite CD's (one for each car, one for the house, one for the vacation house, one for the pool house, etc) or toting around a bunch of CD's and flipping through a bunch of them to get the one you want, and running to the trunk of the car to swap them out, etc.
One just takes one's iPod with them (holds thousands of your favorite songs) and you play it in the car, home, train/plane wherever. Its like having 25 CD changers in your pocket . . . but without the space/clutter of all that plastic . . .
I don't miss my CD changer AT ALL.

+1
I thought i would miss the cd player so i bought business cd to replace the tape deck....still not installed i bought dice in september..of last year.
Nero530i 11-02-2007, 02:03 AM CD changer blows. Ipod holds infinite music and so.....
xxpanipuri 11-02-2007, 02:42 AM i thought i'd miss the cd changer too once i installed my phatbox...but i sure as hell don't miss it now..
what i really don't miss is the shit load of cd's i'd have floating around in my car normally!
reelizmpro 11-02-2007, 02:46 AM I have the DICE kit in my car and the PO installed an FM modulated CD changer which I hardly ever use. FM modulation takes away a lot of the CD sound quality. You'd think they'd put an in dash CD player in a 40K+ car...even in the late 90's. Then again with an IPOD, would you really want to carry CD's around anymore?
fragzem 11-02-2007, 03:06 AM I just absolutely refuse to buy an iPod. :)
LBMotoring 11-02-2007, 03:30 AM Bought an Indash DVD player/ Headunit, and have never looked back.
DVD MP3 CDs, so many albums,
yes,
check please.
Paul at BSW 11-02-2007, 02:31 PM Yep, what others have said is true. When you give up the CD changer for something that holds SO much more music, you really don't miss it. Just not an issue. We have a really liberal return policy (100% refund if you don't like something within 30 days, even used), and we've never had a DICE returned for that reason.
e39dream 11-02-2007, 02:36 PM black 30gb ipod video is the answer.
