As many of you prolly know, the touring is a bit louder inside than a sedan because the occupants are not isolated from the "trunk". If you've ever ridden in a car with the fold-down rear seats folded down, then you know what its like (although its not THAT bad - bmw puts SOME sound deadening in the back of the wagons)

On top of the above, the OE spare tire well sound-deadening shelf no longer fit in my wagon due to my use of a 265 wide spare.

On top of that, I removed the OE sound-deadening in front of the sub to let her bang a bit better.

Anyway, during a recent road trip, when I turned-down the stereo to talk on the phone, it sounded like a window was down! I was like DAMN its loud in here . . . it was just road noise coming from the back of the car

So I picked-up some 4" thick sound-deadening foam on line for like $50 (the kind you see in sound booths with the little pyramid pattern on it), and put it under and around the spare, over the spare, in the compartment in front of the spare, in the OE amp compartment, and back behind and around the BSW sub (trying to kill some bass rattles, too).
The stuff weighs like maybe 5lbs MAX and is flame retardent. Total install time was 15 minutes. Tools consisted of a set of scissors.

The end result is pretty damn amazing. :D It sounds whisper quiet and "tight" - much more like the luxury vehicle that it is. The bass from the sub is also much tighter with no rattles to muddy things up. :buttrock

Ill have to stuff that crap behind my door panels at some point. Awesome.

+1 on links to stuff and pics of DIY. I feel like I'm driving an International Harvester sometimes, especially with the radio off or listening to classical.

This is the foam I used:

No idea if its the best or best value for this application, but I can say it got the job done and was easy to work with. Very easy to cut into whatever shape you need and easily compresses to fit in tight spaces/gaps. I got a big $60 panel of the 4" variety and used 75% of it. I'm sure I'll find a good use for the remnant as well.

Hopefully you literally do not mean inside the door. That would be a Bad Thing™... foam will absorb & hold moisture that leaks in from around the windows instead of letting it drain out the bottom. But keep it on the interior/cabin side of the vapor barrier and you should be good to go!
