Cop was parked in a car dealership, got me with laser going 57 in a 35. Very light traffic, downhill on Canyon Rd.

Since its my first, I can go to court and pay 50 dollars and fill out a packet and it stays off my record. Will it really stay away from my insurance company or should I fight it?

No advice for you unfortunately. But what dealership was he in? Jeep or M3?

He was parked in the Dodge dealership. I was in the M3, hadn't driven it in almost 2 weeks and I end up with a ticket. Ironic part is that I brought the M home last Halloween, went exactly one year before she got me a ticket.

The cop seemed weird, he started with "I pulled you over because you were speeding, 57 in a 35." Then he just continued looking at me.

I made the dumb move of letting out a confused sorry. Then he just kept staring at me. I reached into my back pocket and grabbed my license and handed it to him, thankfully he didn't ask for my insurance because I never put the new card in since I haven't been driving it.

ask for first offenders class... its a day class at PCC and its pretty fun and easy, i took it. the lady that teaches it is really cool and you basically just learn about a bunch of deadly accidents and how to avoid ticket and non sense. BUT it does remove the ticket off your record and it stays off.. DEFINITELY worth it

This recently? Sometimes depends on the judges discretion. They're bs'ing now about how they can't reduce tickets and have a mandated amount they must impose. First ticket shouldn't have any affect on your insurance.

Well I just learned from my cousin (who got a ticket from the same officer on Canyon in the last year) that she was able to go to court and pay 50 dollars and had a teen driving booklet sent to her house that she had to fill out and she was done.

I guess I'll have to find a traffic attorney for the next one but it doesn't seem worth it to fight a 50 dollar fine that would be $340 had I been 18.

Yeah you get to take a class for your first ticket and it stays off your record as long as you dont get another ticket within 3 months I think, but if you do the one you went to your class for will come back on your record. You can only take the class once every five years

That cop in the Dodge area gets so many people.

Funny, I have always gotten an eerie feeling driving down that stretch of Canyon from 26 to Kuni BMW. I try to keep it under 40...apparently with good reason. Thanks for the tip.

Don't waste your money on a lawyer. Just go to court and ask to participate in the deferred conviction program. It's your first ticket so the judge should allow you to do that. I believe each county is different so it may be a book, it might be an online class, you may have to go to an all day traffic school, etc.

Your first ticket is nothing. It's when you accumulate 10 that you've really accomplished something :D

You pay $50 and it goes to diversion? Lucky! I had to hire a lawyer to get my first ticket (76/40) to go to diversion...

How old are you? If you're under 18 its different, depending on the judge.

Tickets are really just a fun tax. Some times you have to pay to play.

Maybe I lucked out, but when I got my first ticket my insurance never went up. I just paid it and went on my way. I was totally speeding so I deserved it :stickoutt I never took any classes either but probably would have considering the ticket was $156.....LAME!
