RobHacker 10-31-2007, 04:09 PM I got a new flashlight as well..I have the old one, but it was at the end of it's life.
Those things come in really handy!
amancuso 10-31-2007, 05:16 PM My flashlight is completely dead... lol.
bigbilly 10-31-2007, 09:39 PM Ok, I'll bite, what is the third pic? Looks like the hard top mounting kit - I thought you already had that...
palomino 11-01-2007, 12:41 AM is the third pic the PDC kit?
did the CF trim ever come from the factory on an non-individual E36 outside the states?
nice goodies.

I would guess the PDC kit... He's been talking about it for a while.
S.A.B. 11-01-2007, 01:41 AM What's a PDC kit?
MParallel 11-01-2007, 07:30 AM What's a PDC kit?
Park Distance Control, which indeed is what it is. Hardtop mounting kit is 2 small mounts and some wiring. BMW isn't gonna use a 6 foot long box for that :D
Which will look like this when fitted (except the moulding are the non-smooth version (shame) that BMW stopped using after 1994. So if you want to smooth them, you have to do it yourself.

Palomino: Nope, never seen a non-individual car that came factory fitted with these. Well of course the M3GT/LTW are the exceptions.
BMW also delivered these as part of the Individual program, which is the same piece, but without the motorsport badge.
S.A.B. 11-01-2007, 02:58 PM ^ That's pretty damn cool!
palomino 11-01-2007, 05:26 PM i have been thinking about getting the PDC kit too, but $600+ is a bit much for me to spend now just to have something exclusive. get it installed right away, i want to know more about it!
I thought only our US Lightweight came with the CF trim, I didnt think the GT did too. I think its funny when US people spend so much money for european spec parts & functions, and european people try to get US parts. I guess that's not the case here though. Are you going to get all the other CF trim pieces?

Hey...
It's even funnier to know UK RHD M3GT's came with WOODTRIM :evil2
CF is not US exclusive ;) . Only US-spec part I know I would like is the central locking switch which wasn't on Euro e36's (I was about to install it in my old centre console, but I'm for hell not gonna cut my CF centre console!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I got an original e36 vert brochure from 1999 today and there's one page of the Individual program in it and guess what...you can see the CF centre console.
Anyways...I won't be getting anymore trim as the only trim left is the 2 ashtrays. Don't really like these.
Don't want to overkill neither. The centre console is pretty big and now combined with the strip it breaks up the black-on-black interior perfectly. I'm a real happy chap now.
What'd you like to know about the PDC kit? I have seen (factory) installed ones, so what you want to know. Not that there's anything special to tell about it.
In a vert...pdc is essential. Even more with a foggy plastic window. And I wanted it before it goes out of stock forever.
The vert PDC kit already is, but thanks to a BMW UK connection I knew what parts of the kit are vert specific, so I ordered the Coupe/Sedan kit and ordered the 4 vert specif parts seperatley (2 brackets, a wiring harnass and 2 screws.)
palomino 11-01-2007, 08:32 PM i keep meaning to talk about this with my dealerships's parts guy since he is okay with bending some rules to get great prices for me.
as for PDC being essential for a vert... i dont think so. they are small cars, anyone that cant back one of these cars up without hitting something shouldn't be driving. :eyecrazy and someone that doesn't care enough about their car to keep their rear window from getting so cloudy they cant see anything out of it should just get a basic honda. i just want the factory PDC for exclusivity.
speaking of european features, does your car have the marten repeller underneath it? :rofl
MParallel 11-01-2007, 08:39 PM Small car? Well I can see that coming from a US viewpoint with those HUGE Escaltes, Navigators and Hummers ;)
I don't think it's small and do I care for my car? Well I know you know. But seriously, having M-Tech mirrors and just the huge c-style, does make PDC come in handy.
And I like the extra bling factor.
I know the marten repellor. Seen it on the ETK. No need for it here as I don't see any martens in daily life :D
palomino 11-01-2007, 08:54 PM yeah, i had to look up what the hell a marten even was.
whats the difference between the vert pdc kit & coupe/sedan kit? the only difference in the parts diagrams that show the individual pieces that are in the PDC system is a "hex bolt with washer". i do see the that the actual kits have different part numbers though.
MParallel 11-01-2007, 09:17 PM ... i do see the that the actual kits have different part numbers though.
Exactly and if you read my previous post, I say exactly what the differences are ;)
palomino 11-01-2007, 09:32 PM yes, i can read. i meant that i wonder what the differences between the vert and coupe/sedan parts are, not which parts are different. for example, what makes the vert wiring different than the coupe/sedan wiring.
MParallel 11-02-2007, 06:47 AM Like that huh?
Well 2 the brackets that are different are the one to hold the gong, which is placed very differently on a vert, so it has a special bracket.
Same for the module, which is located at the leftside of the trunk where the roof motor is.
You actually have to disengage one motor to make it fit.
Wonder about the loom though. I did see it had (at least) one pin more that needs to be replaced in the rearlight cluster plug.
So nothing major though.

interesting. when you disengage one motor to make the module fit, do you re-engage it after the module is fitted, or leave it disengaged?
i had my dealer order the pdc kit today, along with a few other things i needed. ill wait until i know that he can actually get the main kit before i go order the convertible-specific parts.

Ha you ordered one too. Anyways. I wonder what made you aske the question about re-engaging yes or no. If you leave it disengaged, the roof will no longer work. So yes, you have to reangage the motor back. It also states not to touch/move any roof mechanism parts as this will need the roof to be re-initialized. (Of course we know it's simple, but most people of course don't).
