Not really a race, but figured I'd post it.

I was behind a Civic with a sport muffler and some mods as I entered the freeway on ramp. Didn't really plan to do anything but go home. But...he punched it and I couldn't let him get away with it! He had quite a lead on me, but I caught up QUICKLY. After that, he kinda hung back on traffic on the freeway. I guess the sight of a 4600 lb 4 door luxury sedan moving in on you very quickly is pretty frightening.

Checked my on board computer for fuel consumption and that run costed me! MPG dropped from 12.3 to 11.6!

750's must move nicely on the highway, lot's of torque.

Oh yeah, a blue E36 325i caught me on the freeway at the same time. He was auling some butt to catch up to me. I gave him the look when he caught up to me and he backed off. I'm not that scary looking.

When I saw the title Honda Civic vs 750iL...I was thinking 6th grade basketball player vs Shaquille O'Neal.

Nice kill.

Dave,

I love that quote! Actually 11.6 wasn't that bad. I've seen it dip down to about 8 mpg on those runs!

My old 76 Dodge Coronet with a 400 ci V8 averaged 8 mpg all the time, didn't matter if it was highway or city driving, 8 mpg no matter what.... :D

My friends got a Chevy Nova with a 383 stroker in it. Its geared so damn low that he tops out at about 80mph, and I think he gets something like 4mpg racing, 7 or 8 anytime else. Thing is a beast though... hes got turn-down pipes right after the headers, the car POUNDS the ground when it idles. Different mentality, muscle cars, but they are great for some good, ol' fashion carnal fun.

With an 80 mph top speed, he can't even run that thing in the 1/4 mile, what's the point of gearing like that on a car with that much motor?

That was my question to him to! He used to tell me that he would detroy me in a drag race, and I would always do the math and told him even if it only took him something like, 7 seconds to get to 80, he would still have to pull through the quarter mile at 80mph, whereas my trap speed would be closer to 90.

He was saving up for a 4-speed transmission that would make his car pretty fast, but I think he got sick of shoveling in gas to it and hes selling it and going to blow a 5.0. Probably a more cost-effective route.

When I got my Chevelle, it was geared so low that I topped out at 85. I blew that rear end and dropped a Ford 9" with more liberal gears, and I was dropping 11 sec 1/4's at close to 100. I have a 396 with a 4-speed. So I am thinking I get around 6-9 MPG Normally, 3-6 when I am flogging it.

Hey Steve, is "Jessica's" picture at 3Com? In '99 I worked for the Giants and I would always watch the BMWCCA events. They were always more amusing than watching the CHP or SFPD train out there.

Awesome eye Steve! Yeah, that's Candlestick... I hate that they call it 3com now... I remember going with my dad to '9er games out at the 'Stick... much more nostalgic then the rude "3 com" name. That's at a SCCA event... I haven't joined BMWCCA yet, that'll be next year when I have enough time to go to lots of autocrosses. Don't want to embarrass myself in front of a lot of bimmer drivers. Plus its fun to see the diversity of cars, last month an Elise showed up, and a GT2 (996) is a regular visitor. But most of the low times are owned by M3's and such, makes me proud!

My friend with the Nova isn't having any luck selling it (who wants a car that gets single digit mpg when the gas prices are so crazy high!?!?) And not everyone in the market for cars is looking to set off every car alarm when they drive by a row of parked cars. The car is carnal fun, but as a daily driver or even a toy, its pretty impractical!
