Has anyone even been busted in MN for not having the front plate? Specifically or was it just tacked on to another violation?

I went to it last weekend, and if you weren't there, you really missed out. It was a gathering of the BMW, M-B, Porsche, Audi, & VW clubs...Alot of very nice cars, kinda like a back to 50s for German cars with a good mix of the high-end from each marque.

A few of the cars...Z8, Z4, M5 Touring, SL55 AMG, 4 2002's including mine, a Bavaria, M6, Dinan 535, some guys with very tricked out VW rabbits that could probably whoop on any of us, a new Maybach, an original Maybach, all kinds of Porsche old & new, new S4, a Porsche with a blown chevy V8 sticking out of the hood, nearly 100 cars total...an E30 M3 took home the prize for "People's Choice", and one of the rabbits got 1st (which is kind of a shame considering...).

Come visit the North Star BMWCCA website (http://www.northstarbmw.org) to see a bunch of pictures I took. And hey, if you really want a good time, come out to the driving schools...I'll be taking my 02 on the track for the first time at the Aug 1st Advanced Car control clinic (did it this spring with the 325 and it was awsome :alright ), hope to see some of you there.

I got a no front plate ticket on my 300zx a few years back at the U - while parked. :mad:

Also did the M50 manifold to the 328 this weekend. Niiiiiice. High rev band (4750+) kicks butt. We found it easier to install the injectors one at a time and then attach the fuel rail afterwards. Worst part of the install was putting a BFH to the coolant line off the block to get the oil separator back in and getting the stupid manifold brackets to line up right. Other than that, very smooth install. We did before and after mass airflow readings, and there's a big difference. :eek:

And I was planning on going to the Northstar summer picnic that Bob mentioned. hope to see you guys there.

I'll be there for sure. I went last year and it was a great meet of BMWs, far more than you'll probably find all year anywhere in MN (and free food). And you're almost gauranteed a door prize because we ususally have so many sponsors give us stuff (like Motorwerks, Sears, Frozen Rotors, Stearling Enterprises, etc).

And if you have a really nice car, you might get top choice of the really cool prizes. Oh, and the club also has bi-weekly "Regular Informal Gatherings" on Thurs.

These gatherings are “on” regardless of official club events that may be taking place at that time. You run the risk of being the only person or being one of one hundred, but just show up if you wish.

The agenda is simple: there is no agenda. Whatever is the whim of the folks who gather at a particular time will be the activity (or no activity) of that gathering. You could do a follow-the-leader cruise. How about an impromptu tech session?
Perhaps folks would enjoy a come-as-you-are concurs. Surely some would favor just munching and telling others of a great ride they just had. Perhaps all of these could occur at the same gathering.

Because this is Minnesota it makes some sense to have both a summer plan and a winter plan. Summer nights are for cruising and the weekends are busy. Winter nights are cold and dark.
Because we Bimmerheads are spread out over a wide area, it seems wise to have an Eastern and a Western spot. With that in mind, here’s how it will start off (modifications will be made if necessary).

Congrats on the 97 M3!!!

Ran mine at Rockfalls and ran 13.7 on a slipping stock clutch and some heavy 18's rims. Recently upgraded the clutch so I'm hoping to see better times. Previous owner ran 13.0 when he was at the 1/4 track. Hoping to hit the track sometime this summer to see how the car is doing.

I may in about a month have the stock 328 wheels for sale. I might be switching to a different car for the winter so i will no longer need my winter rims.

I have a set of 5, 17" M5 replica wheels with near new tires...
I can bring them with me when I move out, so no shipping cost.
Or I have access to REAL LTW wheels (set of 5), or replica LTW wheels (set of 4).

The M5 wheels are not mine, but I am selling them on consignment. He wants $900 for all 5. The wheels are near perfect, and the tires are almost new.

The OEM LTW wheels (set of 5) are also not mine, (although I want to buy them for my E30), he is asking $900 for the set. no tires.

The LTW replica wheels will most likely end up on my 332is, but those will cost me about $600.

Well, the M3 is gone. I trailered it to Chicago last weekend to meet the new owner. I have some parts that I would like to sell locally if possible.

Hello MN folks -- I'm pretty new to the MN driving scene, and I'm trying to find a good place around town to try on and purchase a helmet for the club DE at Brainerd. Any ideas where to go in or near the Twin Cities?

I can't help you with that, but I'd like to know too. I have snowmobile helmets but they don't cut it for auto racing. I just plan on buying a Simpson helmet, but I'd like to get sized for a Simpson specifically!

Just a head's up, Some of the Volkswagen guys are planning another drive in October just like the one we had last year. This year's event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, October 16th. This years route is still undecided.

Its pretty short, 33secs, and fairly low res, but the sound is worth listening too. The M3 has AA exhaust, which sounds incredible, no cat though so it was making my eyes burn after following him for extended periods. The silver GTI (3rd car in the clip) has 300whp, also sounds very very good.

Directions, take 35W or 94 until you hit 280, then get off on University and drive north. (AT THE SPEED LIMIT...see above about police) Once you get to Porky's the real fun begins. Well, thats where the muscle cars are, the newer mustangs are at Uni and Cretin, and then people also park at a couple other lots up around Snelling.

Today was pretty small, short notice and all, but we had a GTI, an R32 and a Mk2 Jetta, and my Benz, which had a little trouble keeping up with those younger cars, I definitly got it drifting around some of the tighter corners in my attempt to over come my 1000+lb disadvantage, but it was fun. Next week is going to be bigger I think. Not nearly as big as Volksports fall tour (91 cars :eek: ), but big enough to have a good variety of cars hopefully.

Long time, no see. Figure I'd drop by to see how everyone's doing around the boards even though school takes up about 14 of 24 hours each day for me. I think it's been gone a little more than a year now since I moved from U of Minn to U of Iowa for Pharmacy school (insert joke here about Iowa...go ahead, I can take it).

Hopefully, some old buddies are still around who remember some of the meets on University and places in between. I still have the pictures that flash by every now and then on my desktop of everyone's cars that I've ever met up with. The last meet I remember by the pictures was dated 7-11-03.

Anyway, as a few of you knew, I got a new(then) 2003 330xi by the lemon laws for my 2001 330xi that had a tons of problems from the start. Now that I've had some time to invest $$ and labor, I have a bit more modded car with 19" rims + grippy tires, a new UUC TSE3 exhaust for test fitment on Xi, Benfer CAI(from old car), and other little fun stuff here and there. Next project is to put the H+R Springs on that are sitting the closet...otherwise I've been quoted about $360-$400 to put in springs only from 4 different places here including one that works only on modifying BMW's - Simpson Motorsports (sorta like Orr I guess to make some kind of comparison).

Im winterizing my car this year but it is the first time i have done so. What do you guys reccomend all doing before putting the baby away for the winter?

Add Sta-bil to a full gas tank, disconnect the battery or remove it entirely (but don't let it freeze), inflate the tires to near 40ish psi depending on what they can take to avoid flat-spotting, block your exhaust with steel wool so the mice don't take up residence (others may do the intake as well). I haven't had trouble with mice in the interior, but some people put D-Con in there to kill them if they do. Throw the car cover on if you have one and that'll do fine. I'm not sure about fogging the engine, some will reccommend it, I have never done it.

I didn't see the front of the car, but it was an E36 and I think the windows were pretty tinted.

There's a place in Hopkins but I cant remember the name. Alot of dealerships use them so I would call Sears or Motorwerks and see who they recommend.

Sorry, no advice except that I would not bother coming up to moterwerks for that. Are you just having the bumper cover (+ lip & foglights etc) replaced? Any place could do that. moterweks will charge you a ton and will likely scoff at such minor work on a lowly E36 M3. In fact you could do that yourself pretty easy.

edit: I'm not sure when I'll be ready to sell my snows. My summer wheels are in the hands of movers until next month, so I currently need my winter wheels.

Ive never done it on a Z car, but It cant be *that* different. Ive done it on E36s and E46s... I dont know which the 01 is based off of.

The S54 are based on the E36/7 platform. I presumed suspension wise, they are not that different from a replacement perspective. Do I need to purchase the suspension from you to get the install deal?
