How many Civics/Integras did you see? When I was there last time, I counted around 50 of them, most were riced out. Huge wings and rust, now I know why they put so many stickers on, to cover up the rust.

The highway exists near there are nice, lots of big turns.

Hey guys! I just found this thread. I live in Edina and would love to get together sometime and watch the rusty ricers.

If you're ever south of the metro, look for a black Z3 2.5 being driven by a guy with spiky brown hair listening to loud synth music.

Try checking into AA for your supercharging needs. Im pretty sure they are one of a few companies that have stuff out for the e46. Also you cant beat there software. So go look at www.aatuning.com and see what they have for your car.

Do any of you have a repeatable way to measure torque and power, i.e., mrdyno.com or similar that they are comfortable with? I have the conforti intake and s/w to put on, and am curious to see if the s/w actually does anything other than raise the rev limiter. I don't really feel like forking out the $80 for a couple dyno pulls, since they bent my rear lower control arms last time with their ratcheting. I can get a g-tech pro easy enough from my buddy, but I'm wondering if anyone has other resources. Thanks!

Gary

Carb_328
04-28-2004, 05:31 PM
Not too sure other than dynos for power and torque, but I'm not experienced in that at all. I am fairly certain that all the s/w does is raise the rev limit, remove the max speed limit, and I think it also does something with either air flow or fuel injection. I'm sure someone else can help you more than me though.

So is anyone signed up to got mazda rev it up? I'm in group 13 on saturday at 11. Just wondering if anyone else is signed up around that time.

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum, but I've posted a few things in the E46Fanatics forum. I'm in Apple Valley and I've noticed that a few of you get together often. I'll keep an eye out to see when is the next meet and hopefully, I'll swing by and meet some of you. I don't know other local bimmer enthusiasts so it'd be great if I meet any of you. Thanks!!

Thanks!

Gary

I do, it's not ultra accurate, but if you're looking for measuring gains, it should work nicely.

I bought a GTechPro performance meter and it is very consistent. I ran it about 8 or 9 times along flat roads and got the same HP readings every time. I got a bunch of Dinan upgrades and tested it out again and saw a reported 10 HP gain every time I have run it since.

I wouldn't trust the accuracy of the numbers being shown because it measures the HP in a different manner than a Dyno does (so no bragging about numbers off teh Gtech) but I am very confident in it's ability to show increases or decreases after mods. It's basically a scientific butt dyno. If you input the same weight the and it shows a higher reading, the car is pulling harder!

Gary328i
04-29-2004, 02:18 PM
My buddy has a G-tech Pro that is, like you said, a high-end butt dyno with peak numbers. I'm looking for something that can generate on-road torque and hp curves. There's an OBD2 reading device that'll do some dyno numbers without using accelerometers, so I'm looking into that - but if anyone has another good idea, I'd sure like to hear it. :D

Your car is looking damn nice, first time I've seen it in person. No offense to anyone, but IMO the E46 in its 2-door form is SO much niceer than the 4, yet the roads are flooded with 32#i's.

And how about the fkin traffic today [everyday] the drive home would be so much better if you could get it over 25mph for more than 5 seconds..

Baby seat...how many horsepower does that add?

Not sure, but I've heard it can range anywhere from 50-75 baby HP increase. It just all depends on how cranky the baby gets and I've only been at this baby car seat for 2 weeks so I haven't been able to get it on the dyno... :D

I see someone is hosting my old site. Cool. Do you plan to reopen the forum? Damn, I watched the video of my old E46 coupe, almost started crying. What happened to the good old days. Bummer, that's what it is.

Anyway, sold M3NTAL to some kid last July, not sure if he's hit any boards, wish I remembered his info, gave him a gallon of Cosmos Black paint with it that I could put to good use.

I was bored this spring so I picked up a '69 Camaro SS bracket car. It doesn't turn worth a shit, and stops even worse, but it'll grow some hair on your balls quick when you stand on it. I have no idea what the HP is, but it's a lot. Probably around 450. Full cage, Ford 9" rearend with 4:11 or higher gears (haven't figured it all out yet exactly, but my speedo reads 120mph when I'm doing 70mph) :) It's got all the mechanical gauges, a Hurst Quarter stick and pretty much race ready. I've got 4 wheel discs on it, which helps, but since the motor only puts out half the vacuum required for power brakes, it pretty much only 'slows down' when you hit the brakes. I've got an enormous cam in it (.519/.523 @ .050" w/110deg), a tunnel ram with dual 4bbl carbs (480CFM Edelbrock's) and some other goodies. It's a 5.7L bored .060 over with flattop pistons and Corvette 'Fuelie' big valve heads, gear drive, headers, etc.

Maybe I'll see some of you up at the Midway this summer...it's black with silver stripes and really, really loud. You can't miss it.

Peace,
Josh

Where in Edina do you live? What is the primary car you drive around there? I'll be looking for you.

I'm on Tracy Ave, and I drive the Benz around, at least until I find a buyer. The Porsche is more of a family toy. And premium is way expensive right now, so its kinda become a garage queen.

Josh, I called them and since the lip on my wheels is polished, they can't do anything about it, so I'm stuck. Any other ideas?

Hmmm. They once told me I could have my centers painted a different color (well, they call it powdercoat, but I'm not convinced it really is...haha), so one would think they might be able to accomodate that, gray centers and leaving the lips clear. I had some SLK wheels done too, and they are clearcoated, turned out fine. I had my M3 wheels done in silver, turned out fine. Ask them if they'll fix it like it was all clear, then just powdercoat the center gray, then clearcoat the whole thing? Just a thought, but you'd think it'd be possible. I figure if they can do it one way or the other, they should be able to combine both. It might be worth your while to actually drive over there and talk to them directly, showing them what you want. It's amazing how much more shit gets done when you show up in person, especially these days. Most shops take about 10% of incoming calls seriously, so why bother putting in any effort...that seems to be normal now. Sadly.

Josh, thanks for your ideas. I figured the same thing you said, that I should just show up and show 'em the wheels and go from there. I'll do that one of these days when I leave work early cause the screwed up thing is that they're opened your typical office office hrs, doesn't make any sense to me, considering they're a shop. Anyways, i'll post something up as soon as I know more. Thanks for your help!!!
