Hey guys...hope everyone is having a good winter. :b_blue:

I was wondering if anyone knew of any local defensive driving schools. I don't mean your average driving school to learn how to park and such that a 15 yr old would take. I'm talking stuff like what to do when you hit ice and spin, etc. There has been several accidents in company vehicles lately. My boss has decided that we should take the smith driving course again and we may supplement that with another one. He's trying to head off the muckety mucks before heads roll. Give me any suggestions you might have.

sorry guys i ve been really busy latly.
but heres what happened

i was hit in the wheel. caused me to spin and then went straight into a snow bank.]

my car was stuck in the snow and on ice and a rock. when bro tried to pull me out. i scrapped the bottom of the car badly, that it caused the bottom plastic shiled to break. so now theres a hole as big as my palm. and it went far enought that i have a lump in my cabin's floor..

yea hit and run cuzthe fucker just drove off.

well the good thing. no need for alighnment. it was rotation and i did that. now if you know a place that fixes bmws for not soo expensive. that would be awesome

well, are you going to have insurance working for you on this? Paul knows a place over in St Paul to do repair work...I forget the name right now. If you want to check down my way, Bergin Autobody in EP does a good job (and if you're not doing insurance you might be able to work out a cash deal on the sly). They do a lot of bmw's, audi's, vw's, etc.

to get to bergin...take hwy5 west to mitchell rd exit, go north to the first stop light (amoco is on the east side)...take a left onto that road and just stay on it til you get there, maybe 1/2 mile or so. It is basically a frontage road for hwy5. I forget the name of the guy I talked with, but he was one of the estimators, maybe part or all owner. I know his desk was just to the left when you go in the entrance.

Sounds like more skewl is in line for the grammer, punctuation, and english section of our test here. Where do some of you guys learn this stuff? Skewl or school, you saved one letter! Come on! I can see if you're not so smart and you'd like to look cool, maybe that's the way to go, but for the reasonably intelligent crowd, boy that sure looks stupid...

Somebody had to say it. We're all losing IQ points just reading this garbage...

so most shops either try to shave the dot matrix, or tint right before the dot matrix begin then slap a piece of black vniyle etc.

toussi1
02-19-2004, 09:28 PM
Yea it will fit, but you need to cut like couple mm from both ends. Then you need to drill a home on the bottom of it and drill a screw to the bottom of this plastic peice in the center of the rear. You will know what i 'm talking about when you take out your current diffuser.

Does it look like an M3 bumper afterward? Not exactly, but I think it looks better.

The police really get down on those University people after 11/midnight.. they just hose the streets down. Stupid!
Here are some pictures... only have a few.

Here is our last drag car. 1972 Duster 440 pro street
First car I drove into the 10s. This is a pic after we sold it to a guy who just raced it. He changed the heads, tires, some other odds and ends & ended up going slower.
<img src="http://members.roadfly.org/eric_r/duster.afterownership.jpg">
Our last finished project: 1968 Ply. GTX 440 Before Resto
<img src="http://members.roadfly.org/eric_r/gtx.before.resto.jpg">
And after the restoration... Everything is 'factory stock' besides wheels, exhaust, and some engine dress up. The 440 had about 330 hp.
<img src="http://members.roadfly.org/eric_r/gtx.after.resto.jpg">

Right now we're in the process of building the motor for our next 1972 ply. "gold" duster.. Using a 400 block stroked to 499 cubes. HP output should be at roughly 600-650 rwhp. No forced induction (or juice.). As soon as the block gets back from the machine shop I will gladly post pictures of the monster engine in this thread if somebody asks me.

BTW: Do you guys even REMEMBER what the topic of this thread was at one time? It took me a month to read this entire thread, lol! Pretty cool people up in MN too! I'm missing out down south!

I just had my car fixed by a guy named Glenn, who does the body work for German auto works. He did it for 500 when LaMettry's quoted me 1300. And it looks better then before it got hurt, and I had a pretty nasty dent (my dad decided to introduce my car to a snowmobile trailer, and it had a lasting impression). There was a crease and paint chipping, and it looks great now.

So I'd check him out, he'd probably paint your grills fairly cheap, but materials are not cheap. PM me if you want his number.

DTMbmw328
03-02-2004, 09:05 AM
About the seats their is a place up 169 called apex performance. Heres his number cause you want to call him if you ever go out their cause alot of times they close at 5pm or so but they have nice stuff. Actually i guess i dont have the number but give them a call hes real nice and we'll sit you thru a bunch of different seats to find the perfect one.

I'm putting new windows in the house, a new deck, patio, and shed this summer, so all the cash is pretty much gone.
A friend of mines neighbor is one of the Dinan certified mechanics at Sears and he said just buy whatever you like and we'll get our sleeperness on! I'd like an M3, 540i, 330i, or maybe 735i or 740i and have him convert it to 6 spd manuel!

The car is a '90 wht 4dr Golf w/ a full g-60 conv. the g-ladder was sold for $400 and a t3 replaced it. This summer Chuck out at s&l rebuilt the eng.this way:
-5000 turbo forged pistons
-ARP rod bolts & head studs
-TT 260 cam
-ported head
-4000 5cyl. intake manifold-chopped #1 runner
This motor would handle about 30#'s of boost w/ the right injectors and t3/t4. The hole bottom end is now all forged.

Hey.
I know that i post this in the wrong forum, but I see alot of MN people here.
I have a Mercedes CLK430 that needs suspension work, is there any reputable shop out there that can cut me a deal on suspension installation if i have them order the whole kit.

When we have meet, can i come with my MB?
Or am I excluded?

They let me come in my cars from those "other" German manufacturers, but I think they are secretly jealous of V8's...

As for suspension work, try German autowerks on Excelsior east of 100, no personal expirience but people here seem to like them. Foreign Affairs does decent work down Excelsior the other way, but he usually works on older cars.

That sat im busy, sunday would work better .. turbo i will talk to my guy tomorow and see what he says. I will then let you know. STAY AWAY FROM EP, i was driving about 20 down this side street messing with my stereo when i look up and see a unmarked cop car pulled over with his lights on so i creep by him and he pulls out behind me and pulls me over. Immediatly he has his tint meter out and measures it at 19. He tells me hes giving me a warning for no front plate and the tint. He then returns to the car with a post card that has to be signded by a cop within 2 weeks that says i fixed both problems, or if i fail to mail it back to him it says he will mail me fines for both. DONT THEY HAVE REAL CRIMINALS TO GO AFTER??? well do i pay to have tint taken off get it signed then retint or just wait for the ticket and pay that? license plate ill slap on then rip off again so no worries their, Just seeing what you guys think?

drummerboybisch
03-11-2004, 01:34 AM
DTM you are unlucky with the coppers it seems. I have 20% tint on my windows and not once have I been pulled over. (Knock on wood). Good luck with it. But id say the ticket for the tint would be less than having it removed and retinting.

Hell, I was 30 minutes late and I arrived 5 minutes after the other two!!!! Note to self, come AT LEAST 30 minutes late to any meeting set up here, preferably 45 - 60 minutes. :D:D

Nice to put some faces to names here, see ya at the next one!!!

BTW, I had my digital camera in my sweatshirt pocket, friggin forgot about until I was back in the car ready to drive away. Idiot!!

Any of you MN guys have some worn out hood struts for a E36 sedan that you no longer need? I'm looking for some worn ones that can't hold up the stock hood. I got some brand new ones for my hood but it's carbon fiber so the struts are lifting my hood a bit in the middle.

Sorry sheefo, can't help you out with a lawyer. IIRC, (assuming you got a ticket)one of the best methods to avoid points on your license is to try and cut a deal with the clerk. Basically, you tell them something to the effect, I'd like to avoid going to court, so I'd like to just pay the fine if that's possible. I don't want to get any points on my license. If I could do that, it would save the court time and money. You'd want to re-phrase that a bit better, but you get the gist of the idea.

Here's something funny.

I had Sears Imported Autos put on the snow tires on my M coupe last January. I drove the car in winter about 2,500 miles and sometimes in pretty bad weather. The car drove quite well actually.

I sold the coupe about a week ago and the owner tells me that the tires were mismatched. They were rotating in the wrong direction.

What a bunch of morons!
They charge $180 to swap the tires and can't even figure out which way the arrows should point?

Just wanted to let you know that we are surrounded by very dumb people and you should always check how they do their job.

The dealers in MN are really substandard, aside from overcharging for used cars, the sales people at Sears are a bunch of condescending pricks, and the guys at Feldman decided to sell me a car without so much as checking the fluid levels.

Hey pros. I'll be back this weekend for Easter. The M3 is out of storage, so I'll drive it also.

Quick question: what tires would you recommend from these choices. I want something on par with the Pilot sports, but less expensive.

Kumho Ecsta MX

Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico

Yokohama AVS Sport

Thanks guys.

The kuhmo mx seems to be a popular choice, especially for the price. If their is no deadline my roommate just ordered the tires and ill tell you in a couple of weeks how they are performing.

993TargaGuy

Kumho is what is on the Targa.

But until the new ones arrive I think we should try and make your other tires look as much like slicks as possible, or at least wear off that flat spot on your spare. And the cheapo tires on the benz could use some abuse too.

I've run the Kuhmo MX for 2 summers now, and they grab really well. They get a little greasy in driving schools when super hot, but overall the best tire I've ever had on a car for fun (but I've only done like 2 schools on them).

I'll be going to the Yokohama AVS ES100s when these wear out because I drive my car year round and want to stay off the snows as long as possible. The Kuhmos are totally worthless in snow. They are noisy for street driving, but quiet where you want them to be - cornering hard. :)

Greetings from the Z3 forum.
I need to fix a "shimmy" problem on my '00 Z3 Coupe. So does anyone know of a good alignment shop in the Twin Cities area. I prefer a place that has a BMW/Hunter alignment machine and uses proper procedures with weights and tire pressures. Yeah, I could goto the dealers, but from my experience Sears sucks and Motorwerks is even worse.

I searched this thread and there aren't many posts on alignment shops.

Thanks for any response.

I have the Yokohama Es 100s. They work well for me and I had the AVS intermediates before these. They feel close to one another with good grip. The Es 100's have a lower noise factor. I have a hook up at the Midway St. Paul Discount Tire store. His name is Dustin if you talk to him tell him that Pauly sent ya.

I have Yoko ES100s on my S2000...they aren't as sticky as my old stock Bridgestone S-02s. They are ok in the rain, never tried them on snow since it's in storage during winter months.

I also have Kumho MX on my stock 17's on my M3...they are pretty decent for their price. Do not try to drive them in the snow...you won't go anywhere but getting stuck and going sideways.

I currently have Pilot Sports on my 18's...expensive as heck but nice tires!!!

The Yokohama's and the Kuhmo's are good tires, they aren't of the same caliber as the Bridgestone SO (insert number here) or the Michelin Pilots. They are a good alternative for the price and the longevity. I wouldn't take any high performance tire out on the road in the winter as they are not rated for snow at all. Heck I don't take the car out of the garage in the winter either, glad to hear you keep yours garaged too.

I would definately fight the ticket, although I would not suggest pics. That way they will be pissed that you are trying to lie... they will not believe you over the cop. Be as nice as you can ( I know its hard) and they will be more likely to help you.

Appalachian Spring Tour:

Assembly: 8:30 Town & Country Cafe in Kellogg MN. You probably want to get there early and enjoy the down home cooking in a mammoth breakfast.
Lunch: Milty's in Lansing, IA
Terminus: Overlook in ALMA, WI
It will be an all-day event. Alma will probably be around 5:30 p.m.
Noncompetitive event. No prizes, no time keeping, no excuses for getting a ticket. Lots and lots of twisties and other fun stuff.
It will be very beneficial to have a co-pilot navigator in each car. You do not want to get off the intended route. There will be fuel stops, but I wouldn't count on any mechanical assistance, so have the car in good shape.
A write-up should appear in the April newsletter (http://www.northstarbmw.org/index.aspx?ns=BavarianPDFs).
