Carb_328 11-22-2003, 09:06 PM d@$m you sheefo...I was counting down to post 1k in this thread. Figured I should have the honor since I started the thread. Of course you disappear for a while and then come back and post whore :biglaughb j/k
anyhow, the snows look great. much better than mine on steels. I still have my summer tires on. I have to make it at least to dec. Easier for me to do since I have a truck too.
sheefo2k 11-22-2003, 09:31 PM fucker :D:D
and yup i get the honor of the 1000th post. mawahahah..
anyways. yup i got the mirror fixed for free.
and the snows are dunlop whatever they are called. NOT THE BEST but they are very good in the winter.
just went out to try em. they seem to grip. but still its really scary ..
since my first time ever to drive MANUAL and rear wheel drive in snow... i wasn't even try todo anything. jsut drivign down my road. its lilttle windy.. but all the sudden. my dsc kept flashing and the rear started sliding left. so i steered into it. and just fixed it back in..
since it was going in slow motion. i though abuot what todo and fixed it. but i m scared a litle :(:(.. maybe cuz we have aroudn3 inches already maybe more. on the ground. and no one shovelled yet.. so thats why

hehe, I'm on my way out the door to do a little driftinatin' After driving my old Ranger in two winters and a Tahoe with bald tires last year, its all second nature to control those little slides. Or at least I thought that till I went in the ditch last year, now I'm only stupid in controlled conditions with no one around...like...right now...somewhere!:b_blue:

I'm right there with ya...seems everytime I mess around it's not in the right area. last winter I did a 180 on a bridge overpass to see the other cars coming right at me. Time to stick with big open parking lots. Get out there in a big lot and get some practice sheefo. That way you'll learn what to do with your car when it slips/slides on the roads.
I'm still waiting for a decent snowfall. Hasn't been anything over about 6-8" in the 7 years that I've lived here. We need a good 2'+ in a day. Now that would be fun.
sheefo2k 11-24-2003, 02:18 AM man i got finals tmr
i dont want nno snow day tmr. i wanna take my final
then we can have a snow week even :D:D
Sramnath 11-24-2003, 04:41 AM over here in bosnia its 60 and sunny
Gary328i 11-24-2003, 09:37 AM Did they make the 318 in a full size, rather than the abbreviated trunk I always see? [edit] Of course this assumes the average driver knows something about bmws and what shapes they came in.
Gary
Sramnath 11-24-2003, 09:40 AM I dont think so my neighbor just bought one and he was looking for a fullsize and could not find one
Gary328i 11-24-2003, 09:41 AM And Sheefo2k, there's nothing to worry about with these cars on snow tires. Let the traction control grind away and treat it like any other slide. I may have a little more fun in winter than the average guy (see picture to the left), but these cars are awesome in snow.
Gary
Sramnath 11-24-2003, 09:43 AM i would never drive my car in the snow
Sramnath 11-24-2003, 09:50 AM the 318 and the 316 are compacts
///Samson 11-24-2003, 10:20 AM I agree. My M3 is pretty damn good in the snow, and the traction control catches a lot of small slips. Key is to just not be a dumbass and go too fast on slick roads. Last year I went home to visit the parents and took my mom's 740i out to tear up some snowy parking lots. DSC combined with a hefty curb-weight - that damn car was bulletproof in the snow. Back then I was driving a 325i w/o traction control.
I trust these BMWs in the snow more than I trusted the top heavy Explorers and Grand Cherokees I owned... but I DO miss rear-window wipers that SUVs have.

Sramnath 11-24-2003, 10:25 AM so how much snow do you guys have right now
Carb_328 11-24-2003, 01:18 PM We got around 7" of snow over a couple days. I'd say that there is maybe 4-5" on the ground right now. Tis a beutiful, sunny day with snow on all the trees and a balmy 20 deg.
The 318ti is the compact. You can get 318's in 2-dr and 4-dr sedans as well. IMO, it's harder to find the compacts than the standard coupes and sedans. I assume the 316's are the same.
I'll see if I can find some pics of a reg. 318 for you and link them up later.
Carb_328 11-24-2003, 01:33 PM here's a thread with compacts (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=127008&highlight=318+pics)
A 318is, looks similar to my 328i even the m5 wheels except only 2 drs (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=151145&highlight=318is)
Of course those are both e36. I could look for some e30's too, but I don't think there is an e30 compact.
993TargaGuy 11-24-2003, 05:51 PM yeah, the e36 318s were availible in all body styles, 'cept i think we didn't get the wagon here.
Gary328i 11-24-2003, 06:05 PM Don't let the bmw badge intimidate you Sramnath. It'll depreciate either way, and at least you'd get to drive it a majority of the year. Think of it as a bargain = more driving time per $ lost in depreciation. Maybe I'd park it like my 300zx if it plain couldn't handle it, but these cars are fun in the winter with snow tires.
sheefo2k 11-25-2003, 02:09 AM back home in egypt. one of my bros friends had an e36 316 yup 316is... it was such an awesome car at the time
he had cinamon interior and black exterior .. it was an awesome car
Sramnath 11-25-2003, 09:53 AM I thought that they where only 2 door coupe that where really small

993TargaGuy 11-27-2003, 05:44 AM WOOOHOOOO!!!! I just won a table share of the $36k bad beat jackpot at Canterbury...
For those of you who don't know, if aces full of tens or better gets beat they give away the jackpot. 50% to the loser, 25% to the winner, and the table splits the rest, so I'm $1300 closer to my hypothetical E21 track/second car, or a supercharger for my SEC(344.8 hp RWHP and 404.2 RWTQ:evil2 )
We had four 5's get beat by four A's at midnight tonight...A very happy thanksgiving indeed!

Nah, that would have been far too much fun for my own good. The guy who lost with four 5's got 50% of 36k, so around 18. The guy who beat him got 25%, about 9k, and the 7 other guys at the table split the remaining 9, so about 1300each...
Not too bad for just sitting there.
drummerboybisch 11-29-2003, 03:31 AM What do you guys think AA track pipe or UUC STage II flywheel for my 328?
993TargaGuy 11-29-2003, 03:12 PM You probably won't feel much gain from the track pipe until you've got serious mods, but the flywheel helps alot...apparently...and its legal, so that would be my choice.
drummerboybisch 11-29-2003, 06:08 PM IM just wondering cause the AA track pipe is on sale for over 200 something off right now which is a great deal and everyone says with the AA exhuast it makes the sound much deeper which i would like. I need a new clutch soon anyways so the flywheel is now or in the spring so it works out.

Gary328i 12-01-2003, 09:48 AM Hey drummerboy - the flywheel is really nice. Much faster revving in 1 and 2, a still noticable gains in 3. Also adds a little NVH in a good way, and the clutch pedal gets stiffer, yet feels very similar to an M3 clutch. Overall very much worth the $$$ if it's time to replace the clutch. Expect to pay $1700 for everything from Orr. Mine is also a 328, so more of a direct compare there than those M3 boys.
Gary
DTMbmw328 12-01-2003, 11:34 AM if you are interested i paid a mechanic on the side to do my new clutch and flywheel and he did it for 300 and my new clutch kit was 200 and 500 for flywheel

Funny, im trying to convince mine for the UUC Stage II flywheel, but shes not so keen on it yet. How old you gonna be wed? Im 20 on monday. Yea never say faster and can you buy this mom in the same sentance...say this makes my care more reliable or something.
Gary328i 12-12-2003, 05:15 PM The m5 clutch is heavier duty if nothing else. Tell her it's better for matching revs on downshifts so the back end of the car doesn't kick around on you because you locked up the rear tires going around a corner. Safety first! You probably already know I'm very happy with my flywheel. I'll just be happy to have it again since it's been at Sears for paint work all week. It really does rev alot faster. Not sure if the uuc pulleys do anything, but the flywheel certainly did.
drummerboybisch 12-12-2003, 05:34 PM Awesome good thinking gary....ill have to work that angle haha...new toys are fun.
993TargaGuy 12-12-2003, 07:20 PM DTM, you're goin about it all wrong. It gives you better gas mileage...thats the way to go.
And flywheels, they uh...uh. Well, go with the better downshifts thing.
I'm asking for 18's, to make the tank complete. And that way it will one-up my dads boss, who has a 560SEL(which he got after saying I stole his SEC before he could look at it) and SL, both on 16's.
DTMbmw328 12-13-2003, 08:41 AM Targa, what kind of 18's you want to put on the benz? And Gary, how did everything go at sears?(did they do a nice job, how about service from employees? Oh yea and i might have to run that flywheel line past my mom i like that one, you got one for a 800 dollar exhaust??
993TargaGuy 12-14-2003, 10:30 PM http://www.mbcoupes.com/memberscars/M/davidmilling/millingsec1.jpg
These ones...Except I can only find them in 18x8 in the right offset. There are also 18x8/9 staggered sets in 2 piece but they are rare. But those are what I was hoping for, actually there are people running 10 inches wide on the rear, but that means custom wheels and offset, which is out of my budget.
DTMbmw328 12-14-2003, 10:57 PM I see, my friend has a mercedes race car and he told me the other day about some wheels he wanted to sell but i will see what hes got and let you know
993TargaGuy 12-14-2003, 11:58 PM sweet, I am definitly interested, bolt patterns aren't an issue, but if you could find out the offset that would be key.

tim330i 12-15-2003, 11:14 PM Hey guys,
I am in a bit of a bind here and wonder if someone can help me. I am mid-install of my front control arm bushings and hit a snag. I need to press out the OE control arm bushings. I rented a ball joint press from AutoZone and can press them out about 1/2 way but I need a true press to get them all the way out. I know at the meet there were a couple guys that worked at Sears and wonder if they might be able to help me. I called Motorwerks and got quoted an hour of labor and $107 which I don’t want to pay. I was hoping to pay $20 or less to have the bushing pressed out of the carriers. If someone can help me or knows of a shop that could do the work I would really appreciate it as my car is sitting on jack stands (not that I would drive it in this weather) and I need access to my garage for other projects.
Again I have the white 2001 330i
Thanks,

DTMbmw328 12-16-2003, 01:03 PM when i did mine i used some lubricant like the stuff they lube tires with when putting on rims and then beat the shit out of them and they came off
You will want to try to penetrate them with lube as much as possible. Bring them inside and let them sit overnight with the lube, should help a bit.
What's going on fella's, been awhile since I was here last. Figured I would check in.

Gary328i 12-17-2003, 10:06 AM Hey Tim - Why are you removing the front control arm bushings? Are they too soft? I have a M3 suspension in my 328, and those are about the last thing I need to switch over, but hadn't figured out how much improvement I'd see. Just curious what others have experienced with changing these out, becuase it seems my 328 is still not firm enough (to match a real M3) on the initial turn-in, and I was wondering if that's the offending piece.

I'm located in in Hastings and own a 92 325ic and have NO friends with German car to chat, and hang with and talk about common interests AKA our cars.
If some one could give me a hand on finding clubs or meets please tell me because i am so sick of hearing the hicks in my town talk about the truck they just got lifted and how german cars suck the worst.
Thank you,
Patrick
Carb_328 12-23-2003, 11:09 PM Welcome to bf.c patrick
First off, check here. There are periodic gatherings from the members here throughout the spring, summer, and fall.
Also, keep tabs at dtm and e46fanatics, although, many folks here frequent those so the word will end up here too.
You can also look into the northstar bmw cca. linkafied for ya (http://www.northstarbmw.org/)
Aside from that, there are several other clubs/groups which are also mostly brand specific, ie vw, audi. The ones I gave you are all bmw specific. One other club to check out might be MN sportscompacts (http://www.mnsportcompacts.net/) . And if your into auto-x check out MN auto-x (http://www.mnautox.com/)
Well, that should get you going. There are plenty of enthusiasts, etc. Most are around the cities which you aren't that far from.

z015989 12-24-2003, 10:34 AM Speaking of the north star chapter, has anyone attended one of their car control clinics? I was thinking about going, it's only $50.
Alex.M 12-24-2003, 02:09 PM Derrick,
It sounds like a good idea. I'd go as well.
(P.S. Sorry, I blew you off with that lunch. )
z015989 12-24-2003, 02:16 PM russian.mob,
No prob on the lunch thing.
Anyway, the car control clinic is March 6 and then there's an advanced clinic on March 7, if you sign up for both days you get $25 off. The first class is $50 and the second is $100. I will for sure attend the first. Let me know if you decided to go.
DTMbmw328 12-25-2003, 01:13 PM Merry christmas everyone! anyone interested in some hr lowering springs out of my 328. i m sure they work for the m3's and 325's also but not absolutlety sure. 993TargaGuy 12-30-2003, 02:34 AM drive safe everyone...I had some rather excessive oversteer up a soft curb tonight which almost had diasasterous consequences... Oh well, shit happens and my car is fine. But come springtime, I don't want to see any curb rash on those wheels!
Speaking of wheels, DTM, any update on the ones that your friend was selling?
drummerboybisch 12-30-2003, 01:01 PM For all of you with lowered cars...whats a good shop to go get an alignment?

DTMbmw328 12-30-2003, 07:29 PM Targa i did check into them and he had sold them, but i actually think i might know of someone with some chrome amg's if interested. I m not sure what size but i will check with him tomorow.
993TargaGuy 12-31-2003, 01:16 AM hmmm, don't bother. I'm not big on chrome, actually I detest chrome wheels on 90% of cars, including mine. But thanks for checking on the other ones though, I appreciate it.

agu845 01-03-2004, 05:08 PM ok, guys give me some help. I'm currently in the SF bay area, but moving to the twin cities this June ('04). My problem is I am wary of whether I can/should keep my m3 vert when I move - thinking about selling here and moving onto an audi S4 - the new ones. Obv a nice car, but I am kinda fond of my M3 (and it's paid for)...
so tell me how you manage the winter months. do you 1) garage the car and run a second car, 2) go to snow tires (if so which ones), and/or weigh down the tail? 3) for the verts out there (are there any?), do you have a hard top?
By asking this board, I obv want to hear that owning/driving my M3 IS IN FACT an all-season proposition, so as to keep my baby.
Thanks- Art

PS to the mods, I am not trying to spam the forum, just don't feel like retyping all the info.
drummerboybisch 01-03-2004, 07:50 PM For sure doable its just do you want your baby put through the sand and salt we have on our roads. If you can live with a dirty m3 and prolly some road related damage to to rocks and other things on the winter roads than by all means youll be fine with snow tires. Currently im running nokian hakkapelita q's. They seem to work pretty well although a few of the companies have some improved designs out again. Depending on ifs its garaged i think it would dictate a hard top. IF it is i would thinik you could get by without one and just use the standard top. Although a beater car is always a nice option as well. Get an old 4x4 pickup or something.
DTMbmw328 01-04-2004, 11:54 AM I would say buy a beater and dont store your m3 just use the beater when its snowing out or we got to much snow on the grond but once they plow its easy and FUN to drive in
M triple 01-04-2004, 11:28 PM I say keep the M3, since it's paid for... and buy something like a used A4 Quattro or a Subaru WRX, anything with AWD.
They use ALOT of salt here in the metro area and it gets into EVERYTHING!!!
If you are considering the S4 and taking on a payment along with it, keep the M and get something else...
Gary328i 01-05-2004, 12:38 PM Keep the M and buy something else. Either than or snow tires and a hardtop. I use the Michelin Arctic Alpins on mine, and they do very well combined with the traction control.
Gary
DTMbmw328 01-05-2004, 10:40 PM I also run the artic alpines and they work good. Gary how did the body work turn out at sears? Who did you deal with and how was that?
Gary328i 01-06-2004, 09:58 AM Looks good, but there's some small spots of overspray on one of my doors that I need taken care of. I was going to call Mike G today about that. They're pretty easy to deal with.
Gary
DTMbmw328 01-06-2004, 12:23 PM Haha thats great, thats my job is to take care of that, so if you want to stop down sometime i can take it right off for you. Mike G is my dad and i do the cleanup and final detail on all the body shop cars. So if you want to stop down some night i am their mon-thurs from 2-8 or sat from 7-3
Gary328i 01-06-2004, 01:28 PM I just talked to Mike and we're going to wait until it warms up a bit outside before we go after the overspray. I don't get up to Sears that often, so it'll probably be March by the time I get this done.
Gary
Regarding the M3, you will be fine with the Vert and snow tires if you have the flexibility in your work/obligations to not drive when it is REALLY SNOWING (which it hasn't done in 6 years). My mother has a Convertible she insists on driving year-round. No probs. With REAL snow, typically it is a few hours but at most a day to be able to drive around with good snows (I run Dunlop M3's on my 540i) on all roads. Highways and main roads are cleared continuously, unless it is a true anomaly of a storm. I have a Jeep that I drive most other days but I don't mind getting out in the Bimmer in any weather. The Traction control with the Snows is, in my opinion, a better combination then most front wheels with All-seasons (just my experience). 4 wheel is just gravy.

drummerboybisch 01-08-2004, 12:55 AM whats the idea behind suess 5?
Slang "sweet" in German!! Thus Sweet 5 (should have explained that in the initial post).
I have DOLCE on my 2003 Aprilia Tuono R too. (Sweet in Italian). BTW, that is a motorcycle :):)
MaXX
drummerboybisch 01-08-2004, 01:50 AM Aprilias are sweet bikes, i sit and drool over them when we go look. They are just so nice, i cant imagine how fast they are. But sweet nonetheless, no pun intended/
I have two Aprilia's. A 2002 Mille and the Tuono R. The Mille is strictly track duty. The top speed is only high 160's to low 170's but the torque of the V-twin (and soul) is phenomenol (and they get up to speed quite quickly). The engine revs very fast for a v-twin, the stroke is relatively short for a 1000 cc superbike. I run Brainerd, Road America, Blackhawk Farms, Mid America Motorplex and Heartland Park and find with the wide variety of tracks (from wide open to very tight technical), the Mille is perfect for all. In addition, it is so forgiving if you are in too high a gear, that torque just pulls you through.

P.S. I also have a Honda CBR 1100XX Super Blackbird for more longer distance riding.

M triple 01-09-2004, 02:21 AM I'm sure I could help you out... You sure you dont want to wait until spring to put that thing on?

brakes are more or less a diy. Otherwise, Orr auto is the place most guys go. There is another shop on Excelsior blvd, german autoworks I think that is good too. You can have just about anyone do brakes for you imo. Personally, I would try to find someone to do the install and you order some brakes, maybe ATE's and axxis ultimates.

The 2 top places for tint in the metro are Autovisions in Eden Praire and Gjerde's (sp?) in Burnsville. Unfortunately, neither are on the east side and I don't think they use 3m.

Tint is on all windows except windshield. 20% done by the original owner...it has faded some tho, cause when the window is rolled down you can see a difference.

993TargaGuy 01-21-2004, 02:51 AM Bummer on the hip, Paul. I had a similar op on my knee, and all I can say is do the physical therapy as much as you can stand it, it may not feel like much, but in the long term its worth it.
On a lighter note, I bought new wheels today. They are the 16inchers originally on the CLK320s. It may not seem like much, but its definitly an upgrade over the 14s I had. And they were cheap. Ill post pics when I get them.
Oh and, Sheefo, like the new sig.
///Mevil 01-21-2004, 03:59 PM Thanks for the well wishes guys! I'm at home already they did it arthroscopically, so I was in and out same day. I've had my right knee scoped before so I know the drill. I'm still not looking forward to the PT abuse so much. I'll work my butt off to get better though.
The pain pills are fun though I can sure say, 750 mg Vicodins. WooHoo! Caych you later!
Paul

M triple 01-21-2004, 09:27 PM Paul, hope you get better soon! We need to do some track events this summer.
I have started my E30 project finally, here's the link: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=169433
PBalla 01-21-2004, 09:57 PM m triple, how much did the flywheel cost ya may i ask?
M triple 01-21-2004, 11:11 PM 450ish
993TargaGuy 01-22-2004, 12:04 AM Sure hope the garage is heated... Its damn cold out.

just insanely weird looking animation. i don't know how i'm supposed to react to it.
///Mevil 01-22-2004, 07:47 PM Bob yeah I want to hit the track this summer, but only if I have a better paying job by then. If things go well I'll have no problems with any of that.
Paul
DTMbmw328 01-23-2004, 05:32 PM Also in need of a better paying job if anyone has one????
MN_98M3/4 01-25-2004, 02:41 AM Paul,
That sucks to hear about your hip. I hope the recover is going as fast as the pain killers :buttrock
When you get a chance I'll have to give you an update on the winter M3 project. I'm about 3/4 of the way there. Give me a call on my cell when you have a chance.
Take care.
Chris
DTMbmw328 01-25-2004, 11:57 AM whats the project?
///Mevil 01-25-2004, 12:55 PM Chris do you remember my cell number? My last cell phone bit the dust, good story behind that, so I don't have your number anymore. If not PM me and we'll chat.
Paul
MN_98M3/4 01-25-2004, 01:52 PM First paul send me an email @ c-imm@comcast.net with your contact info:
Secondly here is the project:
Completed items::clap:
- Install m50 intake manifold
- Fan Deletion and replacement with a SPAL
- AA Suprercharger with Intercooler & Oil cooler
- All alluminum Radiator
- Deletion of ASC
Items still inprogress
- Supersprint exhaust (Headers back)
- Tranny inforcers
- Paint Side & Bumber molding
- Install VDO gauges
- Carbon fiber accencts to car
- Rear shock mounts
And more that I still need to think of
Chris
DTMbmw328 01-25-2004, 06:37 PM What is the deal with the m50 manifold?
MN_98M3/4 01-25-2004, 09:19 PM The M50 intake manifold runners are ~2.5 in wide while the M52 runners are 1.5 in wide. They did this to get more torque out of the engine in 96 (Guess). With the supercharger and the Supersprint exhaust the more air the better. this is my take on it but you can go to Eurospeed.com to see additional information.
Chris
sheefo2k 01-26-2004, 09:50 PM hey guys any of u know a place where i can install some suspension work. for cheap and they know in bmw so they dont fuck up my autoleveling sensor??
and also how much do they usually go for?
DTMbmw328 01-26-2004, 10:12 PM what do you want installed?
drummerboybisch 01-26-2004, 11:08 PM Yea most of us on here would install it for you for cheap.
///Samson 01-27-2004, 09:55 AM Suspension work isn't bad at all when you have a couple hands to help out. The labor at a stealer/shop will cost ya a bit.
What do you need installed?
Paul - are you going to be bionic now? Sorry to hear all that nastiness...A nice new servo-activated hip would be stellar - plate it in titanium to give you a nice coat of armor for your martial arts competitions.
If any jobs at Medtronic ( www.medtronic.com) looks good to you, I can write an internal recommendation.
E36M3builder 01-27-2004, 08:38 PM Hey all, From Duluth. I have a 1995 E36 M3 Daytona Violett. I bought it last fall with left side damage. I repaired the factory body panels. I'm currently searching for a few parts to complete the repairs. The car has 18 X 8.5 Hammon Wheels (1 has repairable damage) with Toyo Proxes T-1, Carbon trim, Borla Exhaust, Front Strut Bar.
sheefo2k 01-27-2004, 08:52 PM well tim is gonna help me. but we will do it int he spring or after spring break for sure.. when it warms up
but see i might not have patents and woudl wanna install it soon.. so i was wondering how much.. but its kewll
thanx a lot guys
DTMbmw328 01-28-2004, 12:33 AM e36 m3 builder let me know what you need and i can take care of it, maybe even bring it up thier, i venture that way quite often to party and my buddy makes the drive every weekend. I got anything you need just name it.
E36M3builder 01-28-2004, 01:33 AM Thanks, I'm in the middle of a purchase of some salvage parts I located on this site. But if you can help me out here's what I'm looking for.
left front fender side mlding
left fender splash sheild
right and left pork chops(plastic forward splash sheilds)
center air deflector under the car
left vertical AC condensor baffle
auxilary fan shroud (fan is fine)
left head lamp assm.
right and left corner lamps
right and left fog lamp assm.
left hood latch
(missing off the hood:dunno)
I ordered one of those fibre glas M3 bumpers off ebay. It's not here yet. I don't know if the air ducts come with the bumper. I'll know more when it arrives.
I think that's it except for all the clips I snapped off removing trim. Man are those things brittle!
I also need to send my left front wheel out to have it straightened.
Let me know on the parts ASAP. I need to complete the deal with the other seller or cancel. I'd rather buy instate.
BTW My sons friend is the one that did the Video of the North Star CCA teen car clinic from this summer. My 16 yr old son had his 91 GTI there that weekend. Check it out on the club site.
DTMbmw328 01-28-2004, 09:15 AM Okay i got the list and i will check today and give you some prices later on today
