toussi1 09-29-2003, 03:26 PM I just bought some suspension
Can I throw $50 at someone who has done this before to help me do the install at YOUR place.
I would assume you have a garage and air tools. I would do this myself at my garage, except its super packed and i'm real lazy to do it alone. I probably will be ready to do the install this weekend or next week sometime.
Hey Paul,
So is the plate fee a percentage of the total vehicle cost? How can I find out what the percentage is?
I most likely will ride my 2000 R6 to Dulano this Sat if my "passenger" is still up for that. If not then I'll take the mono-posto "torture chamber / nut roaster" out there. I should know by Wed.
I will be down there on the Tuono R with a "For Sale" sign on it!!! Look me up!!!!

Carb_328 09-29-2003, 08:33 PM Anyone hitting the 'drive for the cure' at motorwerks tomorrow or sears in a couple days? I zipped down to Park in Roc today for it. I figured I would have a better opportunity to drive more cars there with less people. Drove the 760il, 530i, x5 3.0, z4 2.5, and 540i sport wagon. My favorite of the bunch...the 540i sport wagon. I think that car is the fastest bmw has on the 'drive'. The 760 was damn nice, never could get the radio turned on though :biglaughb . 530 was a good luxo car, would be better if a 540. x5 was a dog, should have tried the 4.4. z4 was a dog too, hope the 3.0 is better. 540 sport wagon was pure heaven, esp. with the m 3-spoke steering wheel. I could have got interviewed by this hottie from the local nbc too, but damn, I'm too ugly to go on camera :D. Don't want to break it. All in all, a good time. Didn't break too many speed limits this time.
I parked my 95 M3 on Lake Street at Uptown tonight and promptly fed the meter. Came back to my car and found a ticket for no front plate and it's $100!
Even with the state budget decrease this is still outrageous.
Has anyone got ticketed for this and be able to do something to reduce the fine?
///Samson 09-30-2003, 09:08 AM I feel ya -- I parked my car outside Cafe Havana four nights ago....no, I didn't find a ticket,,, I simply could not find my car!!!!! It had been towed without me noticing.... $225 to get it, PLUS, I had to help the tow driver for an hour to get it off the truck without breaking off my CF front spoiler...... ARRGG..
I bet a ticket for the front plate is NEXT!!
Just tell the cop/judge you took it inside to clean it etc etc....:dunno
///Mevil 09-30-2003, 10:40 AM I got the ticket for no front plate from a Roseville cop and that was only $10 to the city of Roseville. Two weeks later I got a ticket from the city of St. Paul and that was $85. My front plate was on the passenger seat I just didn't jam it into the windshield, they wouldn't reduce the fine for me. I think this is a crack down point for law enforcement right now. Damn 3M for making the reflective paint for our plates, that's the main reason we have to have the front plate. AAARRRGGGHHH!!!
Paul
$100 bones for no front plate, iiiiiissssshhhh!!!! I think the front plate law is ridiculous, I am calling Tim today to complain!!!
MaXX
Paul,
So do you put your front plate on now?
Yeah yeah yeah reflective paint ... all those safety crap ... the front plate is really only good for 1) aiming point for a laser 2) revenue generation. :95

///Samson 09-30-2003, 01:30 PM :complain Do you think I can pull the "just rolled in from out of state" quote since I still have my IL. plates? :devillook
Absolutely!!!! Don't know if it will work though :):)!!!!

Still have you IL plate? Nice. Reason for another charge if you're caught in a moving offense. Now wait until you pull out your IL driver's license ... :biglaughb
///Samson 09-30-2003, 04:54 PM Sad to say, one more moving violation and I lose my D.L. for 3 months - so the state of IL told me in a letter after my last speeding ticket in Wisc. - (way back when I had fresh tires on my HM2's) -- Speeding Probation -- Ends March of '04
Yo werd up brahs. I WILL be back this weekend, which is dedicated to fall cruising in the M3, as well as playing cards at Canterbury. Anyone want to go for a joyride or hit up Canterbury with us let me know.
I would certainly be up for a cruz this weekend!!! It would be fun to see how my 540 runs with your M3!!!! Cantebury would be fun, but I am not much of a card player (I bet you like those kind of card players, don't you!!!!!)?

I can be reached at rockmeupto192@Hotmail.com
Nahaha....I don't drive that fast, so anyone could keep up with me, not to say that your 4.4 liter wouldn't demolish me on the highway. Anyway, two tickets has slowed me up a bit. But I do like to accelerate! I'll let you know.

///Mevil 10-01-2003, 11:16 AM I just jam the plate into the front window for the Bastards to see.

///Samson 10-01-2003, 12:24 PM I'm pretty booked most weekends coming up. . . . . I'm looking at the 25th and 26th as open days, - everything in between is jammed.

E46323Ci 10-03-2003, 12:43 PM Hey folks, I'm new to the site, but thought it may be good to make some aquantances in MN.
This summer I purchased a '00 323Ci. It's a Man. Trans. with the Premium and Sport packages. Mine is steel grey with red tanin leather interior.
Anyway, wanted to introduce myself and also take this opportunity to ask you all for some recommendations of A)BMW mechanics you trust B)Anywhere to get performance parts, or is the internet the best place?
thanks
Zak
///Samson 10-03-2003, 01:34 PM Hello there! Welcome! -- First off, where in MN are you from? Many of us on this thread are in the Cities or close to them. Based on where you are located, many of the guys on here can rattle off some possible shops in your area that would be GOOD for performing services, modding etc. I like to use German Autowerks on Excelsior blvd. -- they service all German cars and are known for putting in any mods you desire.
Tel us more! -- Sliver with red interior is my #1 fav... next is Boston green and tan....

Here's some pics of our last meet (http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=86217&perpage=25&pagenumber=29)
E46323Ci 10-03-2003, 02:45 PM Thanks for the welcome.
I live in the city (mpls).
I just bought the car this summer, so I've done nothing to it with the exception of clean it a few times and change the oil. The gentlemen I purchased the car from had a new bumper and side skirts put on, but nothing else is done to it.
The car has had everything done at Sears, but there isn't much time left on the warranty and, at this point, I'm not planning to extend it due to the expense. Let me know if this is considered "unwise" in the bimmer world.
The quick things I'd like to do is change out the taillights from amber/red to clear/red, but I'm trying to understand if I should spend $150 for OEM lights, or just get knock-offs for $70-$80. By next summer, I'd like to get new rims as well (leaning towards 18's).
I also really want to put a short shifter in it ASAP, but I need to do some research. I really have done most of my car research on Supra's as I've owned a few of the older ones and I'd always planned on getting into 93-98 model, but then that damn F&F movie came out and jacked all the prices up. Anyway, I know a good deal about those cars and the appropriate upgrades/parts/brands, but not much about BMW.
Long term, I have some interest in supercharging the car, but again, I know very little about it and would love to talk with some folks who have experience with it.
I'm likely game to get together for the next meet if you guys have one. Looks like you all have some nice cars.

///Mevil 10-03-2003, 04:05 PM Welcome Zak! There are a few good shops to use. You'll hear plugs for Orr Automotive, Eurotech, Auto Edge, and Sam's guys German Auto. Any of these shops do good work some are more expensive than others, and then it all comes down to whom you want to work on your car. I would be comfortable with any of them, but I use Auto edge as they had the lowest prices and are closer to my house than others.
Sam what color is the sky in your world?

Thanks for the pic Samson, got any more?
Yes. Another ticket for NO FRONT PLATE in a week.
And yes, another $100.
This Friday night after having dinner I was just cruising down 1st Ave ( I live in Downtown ) . About 4 cop cars with flashing lights gathered at the 3rd St intersection. A cop was standing in between the right 2 lanes shining on all drivers as they drove by. He waved me to the side of the road, asked for my licence and insurance, and told me that I had no front plate. Then he proceeded back to his car to write me a ticket. Came back about 10 mins later and told me "This is the ticket for no front plate for one hundred dollars. You want to keep this in your car in case you get pulled over again." I could almost hear the "chik ching" when he emphasized on ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. I tried to explain to him I just got one at the beginning of the same week but since I don't have the ticket with me he didn't care less. I just asked him "I was just driving down the road minding my own business and get 2 tickets in a week for no front plate?" Then he got rude and proceeded to show me the microphone in his jacket and told me not to play games and I was "free to go".
I had a friend sitting by me who just moved into town. I tried to bring her around town showing her the good side of Minneapolis. And I was just SO ashamed of our city police. I don't mind so much about contributing to crime-fighting. Instead of chasing the real criminals they simply have nothing better to do than, well, pulling over cars with no fuc#$#@ front plate to create revenue!!! Not to mention being a prick while doing so. My friend saw with her own eyes how normal residents got harrassed and simply couldn't believe this is what Minneapolis' finest do for a living. Welcome to Minnesota. I'm still scratching my head over their War on No Front Plate.
drummerboybisch 10-04-2003, 03:11 AM Sorry to hear about that. Can you dispute it since you already had gotten the first one?
Probably. But do I want to take a day off work to go to court for $100 and no point?
The Hennepin county banks on normal working people like me to just pay the fine.
M triple 10-04-2003, 05:11 AM I used to live downtown and I couldnt agree with you more, the MPD officers have a rotten attitude towards people and come across as total assholes. Maybe it's a reflection of what they deal with on a daily basis, who knows...
What about the big shortage this summer in the Jordan neighborhood and not having enough officers to patrol the area? Remember it was bad enough that the governor had to dispatch additional State troopers to help, and then you run into 4 of them pulling people over for BS offenses, unbelievable!!!!!
I just recieved a ticket in Wayzata about 3 weeks ago for parking my motorcycle on a sidewalk. I was down there on a friday night having dinner with my family and parking is pretty scarce so I figured I would park on this HUGE island that extends off the corner of Walker and Lake, right next to the Caribou Coffee. I was not impeding pedestrian traffic on the sidewalk at all, yet I got a ticket. I immediately rode down to Sunset's and found 4 Harley's parked on the sidewalk right in front of the lake and a no parking sign with no tickets. The ticket was $30 and there is no way I am going to take 2 to 3 hours out of my day over $30 to take care of it. I agree with man, they know that and take advantage of it....
Sorry to hear about your ticket, Bob. I park my bike on wide sidewalks quite a bit also as the risk of getting knocked over parking in front of other cars is too great at more crowded areas. Maybe they don't like Triumphs as much as Harleys :95
I've always thought I'm living in the best part of town. Not anymore. I still can't believe the department have 4, yes 4 (3 patrols and a caravan) cop cars sitting on 1st Ave on a Friday night doing nothing but making money for the county. I'm sure they know this is not real police work, and am just plain amazed that they still decide to be an ass-h harassing local residents for a few bucks.
I've never run a front plate on my 95 M3 since day one ( I got it in WI. It came without front mounting holes ). And the only time I got written up for it in the first 7 years was along with moving violations. Now I've got 3 tickets for this in half a yr. And the first one was written at ... take a guess .... Wayzata. Hey at least that one was less expensive.

BTW: I took my car into Motorwerks to have them take a look at a slight grind I have going into 2nd gear (no matter the RPM's, but particularly at lower R's, like shifting at 2K - 3K RPM's). In addition, I notice it most when the car is cold. Anyway, these fucktards (specifically, Paul and Dan) tell me, after looking at it for an hour, that I need to shift "slower" and push the clutch all the way to the floor (I was thinking the 2nd gear synchronizer was going). Anyway, this Paul goes on to tell me that because I have a Dinan Flywheel and Pressure plate, they would need to take the transmission out and send it to Dinan???? WTF???? This guy is an idiot so I go and talk to Frank in parts who is a shining star down there. He hooks me up with this Tech Eric who takes me for a test ride and can't find anything. My car is a 2001 540i with 16,000 miles on the clock. It is still in warranty but I think Motowerks is the only one in MN that knows anything about Dinan (and that is very little by the way). Will Sears look at the car?? I still have the grind. I am actually double clutching it into 2nd but coming down, I have no problem. Am I lazy footing it into 2nd??? I get the most grind when I am driving the car "calmly", not on it hard. It is strange. I will probably post this in the 5 series section as well, but I wanted to know if anyone here had an idea too. TIA
MaXX
///Mevil 10-09-2003, 11:09 AM MaXX if you are speaking of Paul Dzimian he is acutally one of the top five techs in the nation. He reallly knows his stuff generally. Eric on the other hand is the go fast guru down there. There may be some truth to what Paul said I would dismiss his words right away as BMW trusts him enough to give him their highest certification.
I would agree with you though that it sounds like a synchro issue or maybe a shift fork type thing. I have other theories too but I'm no mechanic so I'm probably way off base.
Paul
Well, I dropped the car back off today as I was driving home from work last night and the "service engine soon" light came on. In addition, a new high pitched sound has appeared in the cab (hopefully related). I dropped the car off and Eric came right up to me to see what was up. I asked him to be the first one to drive it in the morning (my appointment is not until tomorrow but I needed to drop it off tonight) as the grind is much more apparent going into 2nd when you first drive it (all other gears are fine). He is on top of it.
Regarding Paul, he may very well be the one you speak of he just had no time for me and gave me a lame solution (near impossible) to something he himslef experienced. Glad to know that they have that caliber of people though, just not impressed with that interaction I guess.
So are we all getting together for a ride or what?????

I lost to MJD's M3, but I did beat an early 90's prelude twice. And I didn't lose too bad against he M3, a carlength and a half to 60, and the car will break traction from a stop. I will try to make the next get together for sure. Just got back from a wedding in Iowa City. The girl and I came back up the "Great River Road" all the way from Dubuque. What a great drive, beautiful weather and only 1 Po Po (I was doing 35 in a 25 and he just looked me by).
On another note, I smoked some Honda something another with one of those cantelope shooter exhausts coming down 394 Friday night. Highway 100 exit I jumped on his ass and followed him onto East (heading downtown) 394. I could just here him winding the thing up. We hit the 3 lanes and I jumped right behind him sitting in 3rd waiting to see what he was going to do. I didn't really see him start pulling but I could here him try. At about 90 MPH, I got bored and just completely smoked him. I am not a big racer and this was not anything special but it was cool to watch him just sulk over into the slow lane as I put a good 1/2 mile on him. Fun Fun!!!

993TargaGuy 10-13-2003, 08:20 PM The weekend after next is Halloween, I'm gonna be in Madison then, apparently there is a big shindig down there;) . But I would be back on sunday. This weekend is better for me, or it would be if my damn transmission didn't start slipping. Right now my new car is sitting in the shop with a back window that doesn't roll up and a transmission that will more likely than not need 2-3 grand:mad: . On the bright side I did have fun cruisin around following a sweet ass 850i on sunday with MJD. The 850i driver was nuts, we were hitting 65 around bush lake road. And I found the rims I was looking for http://www.benzworld.org/gallery/pics/W126_57678.JPG
The only problem is they're in england and they're white, so I would need to get them refinished with painted centers like that, except painted to match my car, which would be another 100 at least per wheel. Damn expensive ass car!@#!
sheefo2k 10-13-2003, 11:52 PM wat color was the 850i?
one day i hope i have the money to buy my dads best friend's 850i manual, 6 speed. brought from germany one day..his is maroon
993TargaGuy 10-14-2003, 12:17 AM It was blue, had four square chrome exhaust tips and deep dish rims, the guy driving it was prolly in his early 30's or late 20's. They are tight ass cars. A few years ago I saw a convertible 850CSi...I know they never made them, but some guy must have had his custom made, very sweet.
M triple 10-14-2003, 12:28 AM I see a convertible every now and then at the ridgedale mall, it's gold in color...
Ya that 850 was somewhat fast. It was too bad I was behind some huge nazi tank, otherwise I would have given it a run for its bling. But seriously, I could hear Rob's car going around the turns. That thing handles well for its size, though it looked pretty funny, going around crested right turns, with the tail sliding out a bit. Sheefo you have to film from behind, its really a site.
I think I might be screwed, with no ride going home for the next few weeks and the car going into storage later this month. But at least I made it through driving season w/o a ticket. Score me....and....uhh my parents insurance.
Rob, I'm sure your transmission is fine!
And you should get these wheels, they would class it up right nice:

It's called drifting, not sliding;) ...and we all know you would've crapped yourself before going ahead with such a callous "exhibition of speed" if I hadn't been leading the way. Just wait till after i get some new rims and tires, and then you'll still be able to beat me in the turns damnit, but it will help alot...500lbs is a pretty big weight advantage I guess. Oh, and when we raced I started in 2nd gear, stupid auto, but I've found out how to start in first if I ever get the car back and while i still won't be able to keep up with you, it should definately help me beat those pesky civics and 325i's.
Update on the car, the new window motor and backseat switch should be in tomorrow, and the guy is going to fix my other interior issues, except the stiching but that can wait. No news on the tranny yet, except that it hasn't been burning up the fluid, which I guess is a good sign.
On the slighty more fictional side of things... http://www.big-toys.net/cgi-bin/detail.cgi?3&10 a twin turbo would be entertaining:boink Never going to happen, unless someone wants to give some winning powerball numbers or something. For real stuff, I'm gonna call up some boneyards tomorrow in between my break from classes and see if I can't find a 560 intake with twin inlets, which should free up a couple horses.
oh, and I'm down for a meet anytime, now that I have two german cars at my disposal. But evening time is best for me, and it means there is less traffic, which is important, I can think of little worse than getting stuck behing some fogies in a Caddy when we're out for a cruise.
sliding, drifting . same thing. Its not like you were countersteering, sideways. Anyway, you are correct, I would never lead an exhibition of speed like that. :nono I would follow the 850! :D And another thing, you should get a loud system.:buttrock that would make it the ultimate cruiser. bumpin all over the place, droppin beats like whoa. and then put on those 20's that shine so much it hurts your eyes. all the bitches would flock.:boobies :boobies :boobies :boobies :boobies
My schedule sucks fella's :(:( I am currently in San Jose until the 22nd (weekend of the 18th shot). The 25th I have my 10 year highschool reunion up in Brainerd (weekend shot). Right now, I am free the 1st or 8th so if anyone wants to go for a ride, see my new Dinan License Plate Frames (only accessory I have bought) and personalized License plates (hopefully they will be in by then), by all means, lets get together. Ohh, I have the rest of the car too and Dinan stuff too, but nothing really visible. Just plan old 540i.

BTW, these rims are PHATT!!!!! I think I found my new dubs

If we do something ealry Saturday morning, I could probably get together/meet up, but I would need to get Up North after that. I will watch this thread to see when and where and if I can make it I will. I want to meet you guys.
MaXX
P.S. Regarding the reunion, that all maybe true, but I am driving a 540i and no one will believe that (given what I was in highschool!!!!)!!!!
993TargaGuy 10-15-2003, 11:01 PM Saturday morning you say...well, I'd almost certainly be able to swing that. It's the 25th right? Anyone got ideas on where? I've been driving 101 from lake minnetonka down to chaska, and thats a pretty good drive, although I'd be up for something longer if you guys are willing.
If that's the run, we could meet at the SA at Louisiana and I-394. It is a quick run out 394 to 101 South. Plenty of parking at SA and a short enough run so I can get up to Brainerd. I would be in. Saturday morning about 10:00 AM would work.
MaXX
///Mevil 10-16-2003, 10:28 AM Hell I can even swing that. Maybe brunch afterwards somewhere.

drummerboybisch 10-16-2003, 09:33 PM Anyone have any PWC or boats they highly recommend...my family just purchased a cabin and we are looking for some toys for next summer?
///Mevil 10-17-2003, 10:36 AM I prefer the Sea-Doo or Yamaha PWC the Polaris has a slow reversing mechanism.
How big of a boat do you want? I have a friend selling a 25' Supra I don't know the exact price but I know its not a big tag. Did you want a boat that can party cruise as well as fish and ski? If so a Deck boat like the once from Pricecraft are great options. I like the Lasron, Supra, Sea Ray, and of course Donzi lines. I would stay away from Bayliner as the reliability has fallen off in the last several years.
Paul
drummerboybisch 10-17-2003, 12:02 PM Awesome thanks mevil...25 is a little big, we were looking more down in the 20ft range. But year we are really interested in deck boats actually so ill have to check out pricecraft. Thanks.

///Mevil 10-18-2003, 05:14 PM Jason yep got the Black belt a month ago yesterday. Was a tough battle to get it as I was getting real tired by the end of the exam. At the end is the sparring part and I was dead tired, but I made it.

The head on my recorder was bad/dirty. Last time I used it was in Trinidad on a mountain - in the rain. When I got back I had to take her apart to clean some of the seams and insides, - but I didn't get the head good enough. SOOO, it didn't record correctly. I cleaned her recently, and now she's good to go.
The footage is choppy - - - worthless. :(

993TargaGuy 10-24-2003, 06:12 PM Well, I'm in. The 500 got outta the shop last night, and it seems to be working so far. So the meet is at Compusa at 11, we should leave the parking lot by 11:30. From there I say we drive down Bush Lake road and then head over to Lions Tap and the up the 101 to Minnetonka. Its probably an hour long drive and we can hit up Lions Tap for some quick burgers.

Ximian 10-25-2003, 10:25 AM Will there be videos/pictures on this one too?
993TargaGuy 10-25-2003, 05:24 PM Well, I've got a little video from my merc, but nothin very good. I think Sheefo has some video of toussi's little mishap. But i've only got a little video of Tim's 330i heading down Bush Lake road at 70, taillights only of course. I'll try to get it up as soon as possible.
All and all it was a good cruise, except for that it was a little short, and it definatly showed some inadequecies of my 20yr old car. Oh, well, next summer will be good.
toussi1 10-25-2003, 06:11 PM I don't think anyone has a video of my 360 at 60-70 MPH
For those who don't know, i changed the front of my suspension to eibach/bilstien while the rear is stock sport suspension.
We came to a turn near bush lake, every body doing 50-70MPH
A Green 328 with H&R's was taking the turn (30 deg) infront of me pretty fast, and i tough if he could do it, so could I :dunno
I had a green M3 behind me witnessing, and lucky had his distance.
I came to take the turn, started braking while turning and i realized I had no control of the car. I lost my rear end and it swong foward from the right side and I did a 360. My rear end went a bit up a dirt hill and swong back down and i was facing the road again. My car Shut off, probably because i got shit load of dirt jammed into my exhaust.
Luckly, I didn't total my car, which i was very near doing going that fast, and I only got a few scratches on the bottom of my rear bumper which you cannot see. This was also a 2 way, thank god no cars were on the other side
:alright
My friend was with me and he had a heart attack while this shit was going down. He had no seat belt and once we got out of the car he said his back hurt... I wasn't worring about myself, My car's life flashed before my eyes.
So lesson learned, don't push the car to its limits, and don't take turns hard with different suspension.
:nono
LiQUiD GHoST 10-25-2003, 06:17 PM Eesh. That would be enough to make me need to change my boxers.

sheefo2k 10-25-2003, 06:27 PM u missed out on a lot :D
M triple 10-25-2003, 10:28 PM Perfect example why I dont show up to these sort of things anymore. It's not that I dont enjoy hanging out with you guys, but the problem is that all common sense goes out the window.
It happened to me last time we got together and drove down to dinkytown. Everybody ended up driving like it was a race, including myself.
I went on a drive a couple of weeks ago with some Volkswagen and BMW guys, about 15 cars, down to New Ulm and it was exactly the same thing. The drive down was not an enjoyable experience because I was afraid that the guy behind me was going to run into me, that's how close he was. On the way back, I intentionally drove in the back of the group because I was afraid something was going to happen. Fortunately nothing did happen...
I'm glad nobody got hurt, but seriously, take it to the track. It's just not worth it.
Maybe I'm just getting old...
993TargaGuy 10-26-2003, 01:04 AM You definately have a good point. And we were going way faster then I thought we were going to. Although, we were also very controlled and well spaced in the front of the group. Not that it wasn't stupid to be going 60+ in a 40, just it was more controlled then I expected. And you can get hurt at a track fairly easy too, but you aren't endangering other people. Oh well, the stupidity of youth...

That kinda driving freaks me out too, - esp. since I had a buddy pass-away including his GF in an Mcoupe. He was driving out in the country (by themselves) and pushed it too far. Trying to talk to his fam. was darn near impossible because his mom knew I was a "car buddy". I like punch it here and there, but sometimes I let lose a little too much at times. My GF was up with me this weekend and I woke up feeling like I wanted to keep the day a calm one,,, - knowing that we had talked about a 'drive'.

I know I can't beat you with my auto, but I think I can keep up. First race we did, I kept it in 3rd and didn't let it drop to second and that's why you walked away.
Considering, your car is rated as:
Power @ rpm, hp 184 @ 6000
Torque @ rpm, lb-ft. 175 @ 3500
and Mine is rated as:
190TQ
206TQ
And I have Exhaust/Intake/Pulleys/Fan Delete
so maybe another 10HP and TQ
Nice Front BUMPER, drop that bitch.

M triple 10-28-2003, 06:46 PM I've had it for about a year now. No rattles, but it does drone a bit on the highway, not enough to bother me.
The best part about it is that it SCREAMS when you get on the throttle. Although its probably a bit exagerated with the blower...

Yeah, I think I got in on the second production run of the UUC TSE for the E36, last December, shortly after it was introduced. It's a beautiful example of how welding should be done. It's too bad it has to go under the car.
M triple 10-28-2003, 10:44 PM I looked through my pictures and this is the best I've got. I chose the DTM tips, in case you cant tell...;)

Gary328i 11-04-2003, 09:55 AM For those still running summer tires like me, I figure we're on borrowed time. I hope to keep the kuhmo mxs on until Thanksgiving, but we'll see how the weather goes. Somehow, the mich alpines just aren't as much fun until we get a bunch of snow. Then it's fun to go chugging by the trucks with their 4 wheel drive in my little car. I think the popular advertising out there emphasizes 4 wheel drive over snow tires, when I would do just the opposite.
Gary
I just put my snows on last weekend. I was up at my lake house yesterday (Brainerd) and was happy I did. The roads were completely covered in ice. I've been driving my jeep around the past few days but I am having Bimmer withdrawal, probably take a ride tomorrow if the weather clears up!!!

I think brian had some snows for his e36 m3 that he wants to get rid of. He stores his car in the winter. Will those fit on your e46? If so, I'll have him check the board and get in touch with you.

thanx bro a lot:boobies :alright s
drummerboybisch 11-05-2003, 10:50 AM I run Nokian Hakkapelitas and they worked awesome last year. For when we did have snow. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the bug guys like pirelli, michelin, nokin and so on...
Gary328i 11-05-2003, 11:22 AM Hard to go too far wrong with any of them. The ones consumer reports likes are the new Kuhmos, the Dunlops, and Michelin arctic alpines. Be careful that you understand the speed ratiungs on the tires though, my alpines only are Q rated to 99 or so mph. So if you have a lead foot in winter, get an H rated tire.
Gary
Great point Gary. For me, I will only be driving the 540 on nice days so I went with the Dunlop M2's. As a result, I got the V or H rated tires, I cannot remember. With that being said, I make weekend trips too/from Brainerd all winter long and I will be caught in bad weather so I wanted to be sure I had excellent winter traction as well. If I drove the car every day and didn't care about weather, it would probably be blizzaks or something much softer then the Dunlops.
MaXX
Carb_328 11-05-2003, 10:40 PM I run the blizzaks for the winter. They seem to work pretty well. I don't really drive the bimmer much though.
sheefo>I sent brian an email...not sure when he'll have time to check here. I'll shoot him another one tomorrow and see what's up. E46323Ci 11-06-2003, 10:05 AM Sheekfo -
I basically have the same car as you and I just purchased some Blizzak LM-22's on the recommendation of a lot of folks. Probably not the very best snow tire, but the right mix for dry, wet, and snow for a daily driver, from what I've heard anyway.
I'm just going to use my sport rims for winter rims and then look to buy new 18" or 19" for summer since my stock rims aren't in great shape anyway.
BTW - Gary at Tire Rack was helpful and the delivery looks to be quick.
Just my $.02

Carb_328 11-06-2003, 12:24 PM sheefo> I don't think you'll need an alignment. I know it is recommended, but I never do one when switching my summer to my winter or vice versa. You could email Jim at tirerack and ask him a few ?'s and get a quote too. He is very helpful.
Either way, I'm following up on my line. I'll let you know what I come up with.

GREAT rates -- they'll do mod installs, etc etc etc -- oil changes for cheap.. The only thing they DON'T do is alignments because they got rid of their machine. Go check them out. Very nice guys and will always price things cheaper than the BMW dealerships. They even have a price sheet of the dealerships' rates vs. their own.

drummerboybisch 11-21-2003, 10:40 AM I have one and it works pertty well, nice thing is they plug right into the factory alarm port. If you set it sensitive, mine will go off from the littlest movement, for instance when my friends kicked my tire and set it off. So it seems to work.
Gary328i 11-21-2003, 10:43 AM The original quote I got from Orr for the clutch and flywheel job, including parts, was $1800. They won't install parts you don't buy from them anymore, or so they say. Bob was the last guy to pull that off for the flywheel. :-)
