06-23-2003, 05:25 PM
I am having Matt do a LTW FW and clutch on my 540i/6. My wife got stuck in the snow in February. She brought all 310 HP/350 ft.lb. to bear on that snow drift. As she was spinning away, full throttle, she did call me via cell phone to inquire why a car with so much power could get stuck. She also wondered if I might know what that "funny burning smell" could be.

Oh well, now I get a new(LTW!!) clutch and flywheel. :boink ;) :12:

I'll be back in the states next summer, I'll try to hook up for a cruise or something up in the Cities.

Rochester is going to be your best bet. Most of us are in the cities so couldn't give you any suggestions as to places down there. You might try and give Park Place BMW in Rochester and see what they recommend.

So guys what do you all think to the idea of a meet on the 11, 12th of July?

jasonwachtl
06-25-2003, 12:44 AM
Yes on the meet. I'm showing up on Friday unless someone has a conflict but no one has really spoken up at all. 7:00 somewhere near midway. The ex-"Kmart" parking lot has worked well in the past off university. Whomever else meets me there will be cool...

I'm in and I have 2 new recruits to bring with. For those of you that were there for the first meet back in April, remember the two yellow S4's that came with me???? Well one of those guys, coughERICJOHNSONcough, sold his S4 and just took delivery of a 2003 LSB M3 that he ordered in May.
I was also able to turn another one of my buddies over to the dark side:evil2 . My buddy John just picked up a 96 Dakar M3 in Chicago last weekend.

I think we could have a great turnout if we can just nail down an exact date so people can plan for it. The sooner the better!

hehe...as much as I liked those two S4's, I'd have to say that the M3 is a better choice. Welcome Eric.

Date and Time: Friday July 11th 7pm at the closed down Kmart parking lot off University(I think there's still a Mervyn's store there and a bunch of other chain mall stores). Intersecting street is Albert. I know that Paul(///Mevil) mentioned dinner at the German restaurant, what's everyone's take on this? I'd be willing...

Anyone one know someone that drives a white e46 lowered with white/red lights with white bulbs that has a e46fanatics.com sticker and that is also a motorcycle fan? Saw him today at the Harley dealership when I was leaving and he waived at me so i gave a friendly wave back, just curious if anyone knows him.

Squeegie,

It's the intersection between University and Albert st which is East of Snelling. The parking lot I'm referring to is on the south side of university in a strip mall looking area. I'll be there at 7:00 pm sharp so just look for a bunch of BMW's in the middle of an abandoned a parking lot. Can't miss it...hope to see you all there.

Oh, by the way on a semi-random note, I'm in the process of getting my car repurchased from BMWNA under Minnesota's lemon laws and getting a new 2003/2004 330xi out of the deal or a 2003/2004 330i with zhp perf pckg. Pretty nifty, eh? A repeated problem with the DSC/abs/brake lights coming on while driving--so after 5 appointments to fix the same repeated problem and a letter of intent to file the car under the state's lemon laws, still wasn't fixed as of last week when the damn things came back on. New car here I come! :b_blue:

I'll write a post about it in more detail sometime soon once I know what's going on in the upcoming week or two.

Allright, well I'm down for some of this action, as long as I don't have to break the law more than 10 or 15 times.

One question:
Are there a lot of people in Minneapolis and St. Paul, or are we just meeting on Univ ave cause of the scene?

jasonwachtl
06-30-2003, 05:25 PM
ummm...it's more a combo of midpoint to all the suburbs, lots of people, and the scene. I estimate that about 10-12 BMW's will show even thought they haven't posted that they will cause that's what has happened in the past.

M triple
06-30-2003, 05:26 PM
The last time we met was pretty early in the year and I think it was short notice if I remember correctly. We still managed 8 to 10 cars or so.
Midway was chosen because it's central to everyone and because of the scene. There are usually some pretty nice cars down there...

Ok. well as long as I don't have anything too important happening, I'm down for this.

Since this will be my first meet, I have a couple more questions.

If we decide to get some food, won't you all be nervous to leave your cars out with all the punks crusing around on Univ ave?

Can my friend come with his 993 if he wants?

Anyone ever bring their gf's to these things, cause mine might wanna come.

BTW, I finally got pics of my car, which I've had now for a month or two.

MJD, nice car!!! As for the meet, it's really very laid back and bring your buddy and your girlfriend if you like. At the last meet, I brought my 2 buddies with their S4's, the more the better...

You bring up a good point on the parking with regards to dinner. I actually skipped dinner last time because I didnt feel comfortable leaving my car in a parking lot in downtown St. Paul. If we do dinner this time, I think we should pick a restaurant that is in the suburbs and has its own parking lot where we can watch the cars. I know, it sounds anal, but that's the way I am when it comes to my car. Maybe we can go to a Chili's or Friday's or Champps, just a thought.

As for tips on modding your car... All I can say is once you start, it's very difficult to stop. My list of mod's is almost embarrassing if you add up how much money I've spent.

I look forward to meeting you guys!!!

MJD,

We'll have enough people with us that if some punk wants to mess with our group of bmw's, I'm sure one of us can convienantly come up with a baseball bat from our trunk. No one really bothers a big group of BMW's except for that bum and crack hoe once that wanted cigarettes and bus money a few months back. If anything, we had a few just stop from driving by and check out all of our rides collectively. Even the cops stopped by!

As of now, I'm still not sure what everyone wants to do on the food issue(or the German restaurant). If everyone is legal, we can hit up a bar/restaurant and grab beer and appetizers. If not, then we run into an issue of losing part of our group which happened in the past. Solution: Bring fake id's!! hehe

Everyone is welcome, unless they are driving a riced out civic that scratches the ground cause it's lowered 12 inches, has a coffee can "exhaust" that buzzes, and has a minimum of 24 inch spoiler that of course does not match the body paint. Otherwise, all other nice cars are welcome. Porsches, BMW's, Mercedes, Audi, etc etc etc even domestics like vettes. If it's fast and looks nice, bring it. Although you must remember that they may feel left out when everyone is talking about Bmw's but that is a risk they will have to run. I for one wouldn't mind seeing a 993....

Joshe46 brought his girlfriend/finance(?) to one of the recent meets. I don't know how comfortable she felt(you'll have to ask him if he still attends this board), but it's your call depending on how much she likes/knows BMW's. Oh yea, and James brought his wife and a new supercharged mini once. We certainly didn't mind but for the most part it's just a bunch of guys hanging out talking about cars.

BTW, nice pics! Everyone will give you their view on mods to do and in what order, don't worry, you'll hear it from each person there for a total of 10+ repeated times once we get a peek in person!

The Gasthaus in NE MPLS was the suggested dinner spot, but an Old Chicago or something would work too. There are quite a few options to where we can have both of age and under "drinking" age people hanging ou up in Roseville. I didn't pursue any reservations as I hadn't any clue what kind of numbers we were talking about.

Women are more than welcome! But as Jason said make sure they want to hang out with a bunch of car babbling guys. Josh's GF had a decent time but she got bored after a while. James was lucky his wife showed as she really isn't into cars at all. My wife won't attend, eventhough she drives a BMW she could care less about what makes the car soooooo coooool.

Jason you mentioned Corvettes. I might have to have my Dad bring down the "Viper Hunter". She is a 576 hp 584 lbs of torque 40th anniversary drop top. Loads of fun. Mostly in the trying to keep her pointed straight down the road.

Paul

jasonwachtl
07-01-2003, 02:00 PM
Paul!!

Hehe, I want to see the "Viper Hunter"!!! You know after you told me about it and I told you my last car was a vette, I went back into convulsions thinking about them again. Damn, I love vettes....too bad they're only useful 6 months out of the year.

So this restaurant thing sounds like the majority then?? I like your idea of old chicago in Roseville(Snelling and country road B). We could caravan up there from our meeting point and all park together. Plus, for James' sake, you can monitor your car in the parking lot.

Let's get an idea of who wants old chicago, another restaurant, or no restaurant. Vote now or forever hold your peace.

My vote is old chicago.

MJD
07-01-2003, 06:57 PM
Im underage by half a year, so any place like Old Chic or Fridays or Champps will probably work just fine. We can just meet up at the original place, then drive to the restaurant as Jason said.

I'll probably just come without my girl, just b/c I won't have to worry about making sure she is enjoying herself. If my friend with the Porsche wants to come, he will then too.

Also, M Triple, I wouldn't mind a quick ride in your supercharged m3, if only for comparison with my stock m3.

Another thing on the eating thing. Anyone ever been to Lion's Tap? Its an outstanding burger place in Eden Prarie, with nice roads to and from. Just a suggestion.

I am actually considering putting my Dinan kit and everything I have that is related, up for sale. I am considering going the turbo route via AA. If anyone is interested, feel free to shoot me an email...

here is what would be included:

-Dinan Supercharger kit
-Aquamist water injection kit
-2 extra Vortech blower pulleys( can't remember the sizes off the top of my head)
-RMS 6 inch crank pulley
-assorted belts
-Dinan carbon fiber engine covers
-VDO boost gauge

The kit was purchased at the end of August 2002 from Motorwerks BMW in Bloomington. I installed it in September on my 97 M3 and reinstalled on my 96 M3 in February. All said the kit has around 2000 miles on it. The only real issue would be the software. Worst case scenario would be new software from Dinan or AA for around $800. If the buyer has an OBD2 M3, we could do a DME swap and then have the dealer do an EWS allignment for about $100.

I would need to get $4500 for everything, and of course if the buyer wishes to do the install, I will be happy to help!!!

DBB, sounds like you need some spacers... Call me, I have an exrtra set of 10mm that you can borrow until you get some. Clearance was not an issue with me and the stock rims(7.5") but it was really close. I am currently running 12mm up front to clear the BBK.

The Black Belt stuff is going pretty good except for the cracked rib I sustained from a guy who is a first Dan (black Belt) in Aikido, who is going for his BB in Karate too. The sparring part is fun but man I have more black and blue spots than I did when I tried skate boarding.

Wow, what a thread.:)

My name is Aaron, I am 19, and I take delivery of my 92 325i within the next couple days. It is my second vehicle to be used daily to commute to school (paid for it myself, no cosigner either), and I am looking forward to getting it. It has 106k and is bone stock. I paid $6500 for it, so not too bad. It is quite clean.

If you see a younger guy cruising around the Burnsville/Apple Valley area in this car, it's me :)

As a side, has anyone seen a little tool driving around in a Dakar M3 convertible in the Apple Valley area? He drives like a complete jackass and takes his $35k car with his girlfriend to McDonald's on Cedar and then he always peels out even (even when it's wet) *thumbsdown*

Funny you should ask about the front plate. I have to go and pay my City of Roseville administrative ticket today for no front plate. I was pulled over last Thursday by a cop that had to be the most bored rookie on the force. He followed me more than a mile on cty rd B2 and then on Snelling ave. After he gave me the ticket he told some woman to use the crosswalk next time. Man I think he was having donut withdrawl! At least the ticket was only $10 compared to the $80 state ticket.

I still don't plan on putting the front plate on, but I do have it in the car now.

i got pulled over last week by a local wayzata cop for running a euro plate. he was very nice and talked at length about my car. asked me nicely to swap the euro plate out for the correct minnesota plate when i had time. let me go with no ticket. these cops know my car as wayzata is a small town and they see it frequently. i went home and swapped it out that afternoon as it would be hard to explain the next time he sees me. ive heard its a spendy ticket though. 70 or 80 bucks?????

Not much new here. Still running the 328. Hopefully when it's paid off, i'll either be looking for a m3 vert, m roadster, or maybe a z4. Going to be a few years though. For now, i'm not going to do much if anything with the 328. Keep it as a daily. My kids are putting a beating to the poor thing. I get the hood buffed out and within a week scratches again. argghh.

It'd be great to see the bm site back up just as a forum. I drove past the old office the other day and saw the stickers in the window still.

Anyhow, we should get a fall cruise lined up. I haven't made any meets this year due to poor timing. A nice drive along the river would be awesome.

Lets go to france first then drive to the uofm campus... I would like to see the reaction on peoples faces when 10 or so bimmers cruise.

Waiting on the high temp silver paint to dry so it doesnt look like I have egg yolks and then they are going in for the rest of the way. I have the rears and wonder why BMW didnt leave these on for the states. With a red car it it looks SOO much better not to have a yellow/red contrast.

I should make it barring any natural disasters, ie the wife.

How about a cruise route and off to some german place for dinner? or if you guys are into the University ave scene, we could goto porkies. Personally a cruise along the st croix river valley would be fun. Does everyone have FRS radios? That's an easy way to keep the group together.

Me take the lead...you're crazy :D I'm the most indecisive person around. I can definately come up with a start, finish and route in between. The date is going to be the real problem as you said. Well, i'll throw this out, how about the weekend of Oct4/5 or Oct11/12? What weekend works best for people and which day Sat or Sun? Personally Sundays work better for me.

If anyone knows of any other german/euro fall cruises happening here, we could piggyback off of them too.

Sorry if I didn't get shots of everyones ride - was just too distracted by the good show of heads. I'd say ONE more meet - a good drive on some lesser traveled roads would be nice. . . maybe end up at one of the lake-side restaurants in Minnetonka.

You must be quite the techie. I wouldn't know the first thing about installing AV anything in my car. But I tend to prefer OEM everything when it comes to stereos and stuff. I don't like the way a cd deck disrupts the consoles fluidity; it just stands out too much. But I love the screen.

Gary328i

Bob installed an Alpine 7894 in my 328 and it looks like it came from the factory that way with the black deck and amber lightning. You just have to choose your head unit carefully. And the sound is much better too, I highly recommend one if you can find them anymore.

The wood is a bit obnoxious I think too. Especially since my car has like 3 pieces of it in there - glove box, compartment above the computer, and the shift knob. It stands out as being out of place. Shoulda just leather wrapped everything I would have been happy.

Gary

I agree to what gary said, the placement of the wood was worthless. I would have liked to see a aluminum leather knob or something.

Well MaXX we're working on that get together thing along with a fall drive. I don't know when that may happen or if it will come to fruition at all. What's up the rim and tire?

Scott yeah I'm pretty indecisive too remember. Both those weekends are out for me. The 3/4/5 is the Diamond Nationals Karate tournament, and I have a wedding to go to the weekend of the 9/10/11.

Paul

MaXX
09-24-2003, 04:04 PM
Paul, regarding the rim. The guy I bought the car from replaced the rear tires as the originals were worn to the wear bars. Anyway, rather then buying a set of tires and having them put on the rims, he bought one tire (for the left side rear rim) and put the spare on the rear right and put the worn right rear rim and tire in as a spare. Well, the spare in the 540 is an 8J X 17 with a 235 tire on it and the rear wheels are 9J X 17 with 255's (you undoubtedly know that). Anyway, you can of course run the 8 on the rear, but I didn't catch the different sizes until I got home (drove the car back from KC). Upon investigation and actually removing what I thought was the spare (the actual original 9 from the rear right) I find that it has been curb rashed. So, long story short, I am still running the spare (the extra 8) on the rear right while I send out that 9 to be fixed at RimPRO. When it gets back, I will have a new 255 waiting for it, mount it up and put the spare back in the trunk as the 255 that is on the right side rear only has 500 miles on it. The guy I bought the car from is a stand up guy though, he is reimbursing me for all charges regarding the wheel and replacing some plastic on the right front wheel well (parked up on a curb).

///Mevil

I'm on a 97 CBR 600 F3, Bob tides a Triumph speed triple. The plate fee is determined by how much the car is vakued at by the state, the following plates are just the usual $99.

I may head down to Dulano's but I don't know yet.
