If it is the same dual mass, how much do you want for it? What motor is in your 01 M coupe? S54? S52?

Mine had the S54 but the 5 speed tranny. I believe its the same unit that is in the E36 M3. Realoem doesn't seem to have the flywheels on there. I know I put the UUC E36 M3 flywheel in. It has about 40,000 miles on it. How about $100 for it.

Hi guys,

The time has come to sell my beloved 97 M3 sedan. I'll be putting an ad up in the For Sale area in a couple days, but since I'd prefer a local sale I thought I'd see if anyone's interested here first.

It's got 105xxx miles, 5-speed, Arctic Silver on black leather, lux edition, M-contours, ECIS intake, Eibachs, Konis, PS2's, ZKW's with HID's, factory keyless entry & alarm, Mobil 1 every 3k miles, all maintenance records. Newer clutch that was put in by Orr Autosport at around 95k miles. Water pump, belts, hoses, thermostat replaced around the same time. Engine and transmission are rock-solid. Never abused. Only did one driver's event a couple years ago at a North Star bmwcca winter driving school. Winter wheels & tires available if desired.

I love this car, but I had the opportunity to buy my dream car, an E39 M5 :devillook , and I took that opportunity. So the M3 has to go, unfortunately. :(

Edit: I'm looking to get $13,500 or best offer.

Very nice M5. Must have been a tough decision. I was very tempted to nab this 01 M5 posted on craigslist a couple weeks ago.

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/car/222003436.html

At 28k obo, I bet he would have let it go for $25k. That's on heck of a value in my book. I seriously thought over selling one or both my cars to cover it (or part of), but in the end I couldn't bring myself to selling either of my m3's. I'll just have to wait longer and get a bigger garage...

Can you comment on how you like it and how it compares to the e36m3? I know they are entirely different cars, but you did trade one up for the other. I see the occasional low-priced m5 so I'm wondering if there is something that turns off owners after awhile. I can think of a few cons - repairs and higher 5-series maintenance, overall kinda big, risk of speeding tickets or losing license, and it's a gas-guzzler. On the other hand, if a guy had the cash to buy one of these new, they probably aren't being hurt financially to sell it now for under $30k and they probably just want another new toy rather than selling it for any serious negatives. Regardless of any cons or reason to sell, it's still quite a car to have and I really hope to own one at some point in my lifetime. 400hp nearly says it all.<o:p></o:p>

Cheers

Can you comment on how you like it and how it compares to the e36m3?

As far as comparing the two cars, I think you nailed it on the head. I drove the M3 for the first time in a couple weeks the other day, and it made me a little sad, all over again to think about letting it go. It's true what they say, probably also when comparing the E36 M3 to the E46 M3, and in this case to an M5, that the earlier M3 doesn't have quite as much "assist" in the steering but therefore feels a bit more connected to the road. There's definitely more effort in turning the wheel than in the M5. I actually like the shifting feel in the M3 a little better. Something about going into 2nd in the M5 is a little too tough. There is no comparing the interior of the two cars, but that's to be expected.

Still, I wanted a slightly larger, newer, more luxurious car without giving up the 4 door accessibility, and without giving up the allure of the M cars. So that pretty much limited me to one car! And I have always drooled over the LeMans blue with blue/black interior, so when the right opportunity came along it was a pretty easy decision. Especially with a year of CPO left on it, although I realize once that's over the maintenance costs will no doubt be high, and I'm sure there will be more things I can't handle myself on this car than I could on the E36 M3, which is a great DIY car in my opinion.

I suppose I could have bought an even newer 535 or something for around the price I paid for the M5, but once you've acquired a taste for M, it's pretty hard to get away from it. Lately I've been feeling that I can only go down from here. I guess if I was independently wealthy and had a big heated pole barn, I'd like to have a sort of pantheon of cool older BMW's, like an E30 M3, a circa 1988 M6, a circa late 80's M5, an E36 M3, etc. And maybe throw in a Z8 for grins. But who wouldn't?

Hey there,

Just moved here and bought a place in the Mac Groveland area. Besides doing it yourself (and that's a little difficult for us right now), where are you guys washing your cars? I can't find a single car wash.

Thanks!!
-Jeremy

best place to go is a place called paradise car wash. it is an automatic car wash but they hand dry the car and vac and clean windows, dash etc inside. a month pass(you can go as many times as you want in a month, multiple times a day) is 45 dollars for premium washes and 35 for standard. pretty good deal. you just gotta search to see if there is one in your area

Still, I wanted a slightly larger, newer, more luxurious car without giving up the 4 door accessibility, and without giving up the allure of the M cars.......

-John

I was in a similar situation, but fortunate enough to keep the M3, and add-on the "larger more luxurious sedan," (though in my case, that car was an Audi RS6).

If there is ANY way you can keep the M3, find a way to do so, 'cause I promise you will miss it very much in less than a year.

Let's hear about RS6 and how that stacks up against the M5.

Not much to say, other than that its a 450hp biturbo 4.2L V8 married to quattro drive with upgraded performance brakes & suspension (and some subtle styling upgrades) vs the A6. 0-60 around 4.6s. Only about 900 were imprted into the US, only made one year, and this also suits me... Only downer is it only came with AT, with paddle shifters, but I dont miss shifting though, that's what the M3 is for.

A single chip kicks hp to 520hp, but i aint interested in chipping it (still under warrantee, and it also has CPO which chip would invalidate), but i do have a nice aftermkt exhaust.

Anyway, I also LOVE the M5, so let's get back on-topic and congratulate the recent acqusition!

Hopefully I will have some real mods by springtime. I got a spot at my work to store her...nice big heated garage with a car wash too. I will be doing some routine mainentance and hopefully adding some performance over winter.

E46 is a completely different animal than the E36, so you'll be in love if you've never driven one before. I got mine my last semester of college when I got a full-time job. Everybody on the campus was staring at me every day. It was pretty cool. :cool

Tonight I'm workin on my sub enclosure. Should be fun. I'll post some pics up when I'm done with that.

Reedo- Yea I believe I drove a 2003 Cosmos with SMG. I think BMW built that car sepcifically for me. Ha. It was a test drive with my cousin and the car dealer guy in the back. I'm pretty sure he crapped his pants in the back seat there. I tried convincing my cousin to buy an M3 but instead he went for the new corvette. Thing is amazing. Nice! What new rims did you get?

I picked up some ASA AR1's for the winter. (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=640947) I wanted to try running all-season tires during the cold months since winter weather is fairly mild here. I like these wheels so much I kinda wish I would've made them my summer wheels.
Did my first HPDE a couple weeks ago at Summit Point Raceway. Learned so much, just an awesome experience. I had Roy Morris, president of the BMWCCA National Capital Chapter as my instructor for the day. He runs a stock(hasn't replaced anything other than fluid) '95 M3 with r-comps. It's impressive what these cars can do stock. His car was special ordered with no sunroof and cloth seats:alright .

Hey guys. My Dad just backed into my car and I am looking to go through insurance. But it would be nice if I could save a couple dollars. These are the things I need:

--E36 Hood (4dr)
--E36 Nose piece complete with kidney grills (4dr)

If anyone has these local that would be great.

P.S. I am in Marshall, MN now that school is out.

If all else fails, I have a reset tool. I'm in White Bear Lake. Maybe you should try the BMW dealership in Bloomington.

Anyone have experience replacing "non-replacable" u-joints?

the E30 is clunking, i have the parts and the other driveshaft stuff to repalce... but none of the shops around here will touch the u-joints. :(

Not sure if I can post this here, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm putting a Stromung on the M next week, so that will free up my UUC System U v.2, if anyone's interested. I'd obviously prefer a local sale so I don't have to ship it. The exhaust is in great shape; the only real imperfection is that there is a dimple on the top of one of the pipes ahead of the muffler. It doesn't affect the fit or the performance, and you can't even see it once the exhaust is on the car. PM me if interested. :)

I've realized that the regional forum is superior to many of the others. I will now be posting here, in our beloved Minnesota thread, more often. Good day.

Good morning. I bought my M5 about a month ago and I love it. I'm back in MN for the next year+ so I've been looking for a message board where most of the MN guys hang out. I think I've found it. That being said I've got a few questions that are local-oriented:

1. I need a GOOD detailer. My in-laws backed my wifes car (02 Audi A6 Avant, White) into our trash can and scuffed the rear bumper. I want to try having a detailer take a crack at it before I pay to have it repainted. Does anyone have recommendations for a good detailer (prefereably in the south metro, but I can drive)?

2. Upcoming Driving Schools (I saw the winter driving school thread, but I'm looking for sportier endeavours) in the Metro Area.

3. Any upcoming meets? I'm going back to school and playing Dad so I will have some more free time in the next few months. I'd love to hang out/wrench on cars on the weekends.

4. Any recommendations for a good Indy for my M5? I know the previous owner mentioned one (not sure if he is on this board or what his screen name is. He owned my Titanium Silver M5 and recently upgraded) in the area but I haven't tracked him down yet.

Thanks, and I look forward to meeting some of you.

I have a Titanium Silver 2000 M5. I'll be here this spring and I should be around for another 2 years before I have to move, again. If all goes well we should be renting a house up near Maple Grove next month (Northeast Plymouth near Schmidt Lake Road).

I need a GOOD detailer.
I use a local guy - he works out of St. Louis Park. He's been an instructor at the driving schools for years, and is quite good and thorough at detailing. He's not the cheapest in the world, though, so you pay for what you get!

John Biesecker (pronounced Bee-Secker) is the name, and his company is called Sterling Enterprises. His phone number is his personal cell phone, which I'll PM to you if you're interested (I don't want the bots to troll up his number!).

He's a great guy, knows how to drive, races karts in his spare time, sells frozen rotors full time and does detailing for a part time job. You'll have to work out a schedule with him.

I'm going to have him do my new truck for me in the next couple of months (at least the interior).

Let me know if you want the number.

how come you don't just detail it yourself? ...Time??I have the time, but I don't have a heated garage, detailing materials, nor the inclination to get frostbite any time this week :)

Ffroggs, please pm me his number. I'll give him a call today and set this up. Thanks.

Welcome to bf.c! Alot of the college bmw crowd hangs out here, and some of us thirties and older guys checking in from time to time. Great place to search for info/fixes on the bmw.

1- get ahold of John Biesecker though the Northstar BMW club. He does awesome work, even though he might not be detailing anymore, he'll likely know who is really good.

2- try the winter gig, Dakota county can be a fun track. The Audi club does some winter stuff - sometimes on frozen lakes - as well, but you're not gonna see any driving events this time of year that are "sporty" or high speed. It's Minnesota, duh. Maybe the porsche guys are nuts enough to schedule something?

3- Brrrr, I'm staying inside where it's toasty warm.

4- Orr Autosport in EP. Good guys.

Gary

Thanks for the info. I might look into the winter-driving class after all. It is the weekend before I go back to school so I should have time. Is there still time to sign up?

EtchyLives, welcome to the local forum.

I'm going to have to agree w/ Gary on all points. JB is the man as far as detailing, just be patient w/ getting a hold of him - he's doing it on the side these days.

The CCA driving schools are about the most sporting driving you'll be doing this time of year. With the mild winter we've been having, this weekend's event will be more like a spring school anyway. Plus, it's a good warm-up for the spring schools - our May high speed school in Brainerd is just around the corner!

We run the winter schools on a dedicated 1 mile track w/ different stations set-up (slalom, skid-pad, emergency lane change etc etc.) The track is used by the Minneapolis Police for driver training and it's a well maintaned facility with elevation changes and around 12 turns (depending on configuration) - later in the afternoon, we open the whole track and you pretty much run open laps (with an Instructor in car at all times.) Regardless of the weather, it'll be a fun time. Registration is now closed (or should be?) - if anyone's still interested, PM or e-mail me and I'll see that you're signed up.

As far as Independent BMW shops in the south or west suburbs, Orr Autosport is by far your best option (IMHO). They're also the best bet for performance oriented work and track prep.

Off Topic: Gary - I see you're signed up for this weekend. It's been WAY TOO long since we've seen you out - good to see you can make it. I'm definitely bringing the 328 (w/ old sloppy snow tires mounted) - find me before the event and I'll take you out to "test" the track! (and my tires...)

Try the website first. www.northstarbmw.org

If registration is closed, PM or e-mail me - I'll see to it you're registered (same goes for anyone else interested in going...)

The website is not taking my member number (just got it in the mail a few days ago). Let me talk to the wife tonight, and I may email/pm you tomorrow. The more I think about it, the more I want to go. If anything, it will be a nice way to meet people (car people, that is)

Sure, that'd be fun to sample the track with you - what time you showing up? And any point of switching (or even bringing) my crappy summer tires that I'm trying to burn off? With lapping near the end, snow tires in the dry are not gonna be fun as they melt and squirm.

And what's with this sarcasm bit? Geez, take a year off and this is what I get? Times haven't changed that much, you're gonna be chasing the same thing as always: my car's :booty.

Depends on the weather. I'd recommend only bringing one set unless there's a chance of a big weather change. I'm not sure how much free time you'll get to swap tires (maybe over lunch?)

I believe registration opens at 8:30 Sunday (you'll get an e-mail later this week confirming...) and the official stuff starts around 9:00. I'll likely be there around 8:00.

Taunt proof, eh? I'll save my good stuff for Sunday I guess. :stickoutt

I'll probably borrow Mike's alum. jack just in case for the tires. And I hadn't even thought about brake pads yet. Guess I'll just toast what I got in there. See you Sunday!

Cheers

Having just looked at the forecast - you might as well mount the snows and not bother with the other tires. It's going to be cold and overcast. I wouldn't bother with changing brake pads either.

Rob,
My wife has agreed to let me out on Sunday so I sent you my info in a PM. Let me know if there is anything else you'll need from me. I can't wait to get out and drive my car, again. Even if it is 'only' a Winter Driving School.

You guys need to start a new thread... constantly accessing threads with more than 500 replies plays havoc on the hardware.
