Both tracks on a motorcycle are killer. Tons of tighter turns at Mid Am though. Always a fun time.:buttrock

I belive stock is 3.73

M3 is something like 4.10 if I remember correctly. The same yard has an E30 325ix, those are supposed to be 3.91 I belive. Maybe I'll pick it up.

Hi Ripp -
I would definitely go with the Main floor seats. There is not a poor seat on the Main floor. Also, sometimes people in the balcony are a bit more reserved, so if you wanna get your groove on (per se), the Main floor is the place to be!

Hello Minnesota. I was a happy E36 M3 Vert owner back in Cali that I modded nicely (Dinan CAI/TB/Exhaust/chip, UR lightwright crank pulley, UUC SSK, etc), but when my job took me here, I left her in Cali, and got a new B6 S4 (the V8 version), thinking I needed AWD. Anyway, I love the S4 (instantaneous power, very refined), but am now looking to add another horse to the stable, for nice-weather fun.

My plan: buy another E36 M3 vert (hopefully less than 60K miles); stock would be ok, then going ape$hit on it (for me modding is a TON of fun):

BBK, wheels, coilovers, and the coup de gra: dropping a Eurosport positive displacement Twin Screw Supercharger into it! This one: http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com/supercharger.html

Any thoughts on who might be able to install this for me? Orr? Better yet, any idea where I could find said E36 vert?

I am very pumped to be getting back in the BMW fold, and owuld love to meet up and play sometime..... Art

Welcome, Art. Dang, sounds like you've got quite the plan. Good luck on finding a 'vert with less than 60k!

On a side note, I TOOK MY CAR OUT YESTERDAY! Somebody totalled my Bravada so I had to take my M out of hibernation a bit early. Nice to have her back. :buttrock

Damn Art, if you ever finish with that positive displacement supercharger I NEED a ride, I have been following it since conception  My m3 is for sale but its fairly modified toward the N/A direction and its not a vert so it's probably not what you're looking for. Art,

The two best places to start looking for a used M3 would be at www.autotrader.com (http://www.autotrader.com) and www.carsoup.com
(http://www.carsoup.com)
The bad news is because we don’t have the population of California, we don’t have as wide a variety of used BMW’s to pick from. The entire state only has three BMW dealerships.

The good news is Minnesota ended emissions testing a number of years ago, so you can go crazy with the mods and not have to worry about passing strict emissions tests as you did in California.

If I were you, I would forget about mileage and just look for the features you want. When you find the car that has what you want, have it inspected before buying. If it passes the inspection, buy the car and simply have Orr rebuild the engine.

Chances are anyway that it would be cheaper to buy a higher mileage M3 and have the engine rebuilt then it would to buy an M3 with under 60K and hope the previous owner(s) didn’t ride the car’s red line constantly.

Other things on back order; Recaro Pole Positions, Shcroth Profi III 6 Point, Autopower Roll Bar, Ground Control Camber Plates, TCKline D/A CO.

You wouldn't have driven on summer tires for ONE day? :confused Shit, I changed to my Z-rated Pilots on M3 rims over the 15" H rated stockers about 2 weeks ago. Stillwater is 5 minutes from my home. We could meet up in Woodbury or something. Get the group to eat at buffalo wild wings on 94 / Radio Dr ? :D

yeah, we're def open to ideas. There arent really any nice twisty roads right in or directly around Stillwaer (judging by google maps) but if we go slightly East-South-East, there looks to be some... we'll find out if they're dirt or paved on Sat. As far as the restaurant thing goes, I know there are some cozy places in Stillwater we could check out.

BTW, I'd say lets meet up at around 10 on Sat mornin to do the predrive. Only a few of us going, and we're likely to be driving around in circles, getting confused, and running into dirt roads everywhere. Meeting place: Champs (bar/grill) parking lot near Tamarack Village in Woodbury. For moe info check out Eurowerks Scouting Predrive (http://www.eurowerks.org/main/index.php?option=com_simpleboard&Itemid=26&func=view&id=7732&catid=3&limit=15&limitstart=15)

I'm going. I've been too lazy to get a trailer (and find a place to store it...) so I plan on driving the 328 down Friday. There's quite a few local CCA guys going as well.

I'm staying at the Ramada in S. Beloit - I'll probably be out in the parking lot changing the brakes/wheels Friday night (assuming the weather cooperates...) If I get there early enough, I might grab a spot in the paddock too (gates close at 6:00pm Friday)

See you there.

Edit: The gates OPEN at 6:00pm Friday, so I'll definitely be picking a spot in the paddock Friday night.

To bad you didn't get the trailer. I am going to try to get a spot in the paddock on Friday night as well. I am hooking up with a couple of guys from the NASA forum to drive down with.

I am staying at the Holiday Inn Express, I didn't see that the Ramada was the host hotel till after I got a room (oh well).

Over the winter I traded my 1997 528i for a 2001 325i and kept my 225/55/16ZR summer tires. The 325i OEM is 205's . The 225's handle great until I start adding extra weight and then the rear passenger tire rubs when hitting bumps or turning left. I may need to have the fenders rolled if that is what's causing the rubbing.

The North Star BMW CCA is having it's spring Advanced Driving School at BIR that weekend. Not a meet and not open lapping. The school is open to anyone over 18 with a valid driver's license and a car that will pass the technical inspection. You also need to be a member of the BMW CCA. If you want to stop by and check it out, feel free. The track is open to the public (must sign a waiver to get in), just be aware of your surroundings and stay out of the restricted areas (marked with big signs.)

Yes, $350 isn't cheap, but considering the cost of renting a track for a weekend, plus hiring professional corner workers and a professional ambulance crew it's actually a bargain. The students all receive 1:1 in car instruction the entire weekend (can run solo if signed off) and also classroom instruction. Run groups are kept relatively small, so not a lot of traffic to get in your way. This is a structured event with strict rules to make sure it's a safe/fun time for all participants.

Someone with a lot of track experience will be able to find cheaper open lapping days - this school is aimed more towards people looking for instruction.

There's also a new option this year - you can sign up for Saturday only (since it's Mother's Day Weekend...) for around $150 - so a great way to get a taste of what it's all about without jumping in and spending a lot on hotels etc.

If anyone has any questions on the school, feel free to PM me and I can get you answers.

Sorry Erik...

It was decided to offer it at the last Board meeting in March. I thought there was supposed to be an e-mail to the Yahoo group, but apparently it never happened. You won't see it offered on the public website - it's listed when you log-in to "My North Star." There's only a couple slots left open and they're expected to fill quickly.

Edit: It's $200 for only Saturday May 13 - this prices is good through TODAY. Starting 4/21/06 the early bird price goes away and it's $240 - this is for Sat only.

There is a guy in Burnsville that runs a body shop in back of Valley Car Care & Transmission across Highway 13 from Menards. When I have the money, I'm planning to have him roll my fenders.

He knows a lot about BMW and at the time I paid him a visit to get a quote on rolling the fenderS he was in the process of adding an M Kit to a BMW.

If you're eager and want a good price, it probably wouldn't hurt to call him.

If Burnsville isn't too far of a drive for you Call Valley Car Care at 952-895-5720
and ask for Erick Lindquist.

Turboricecooker
04-27-2006, 05:53 PM
M51AB- Thanks for the referral, does that place exclusively do transmission only? or they do body work and painting as well. I just don't want small shop to screw it up and mis-match the paint, or not fitting it well.

Supposedly Sears Imports strike will not be over anytime soon, the had votings yesterday, but a lot of them did not show up and they were short twenty something votes. So it's not going to be settled anytime soon.

M51AB
04-27-2006, 09:53 PM
I believe Valley Car Care & Transmissions mainly handles general mechanical and tire issues. Although Erick works for them, he has his own body shop area in the back where he specializes in mods for import cars.

I'll call him in the morning and see if he's still working on the M kit and let him know what you're looking for. I'll post a reply with his response.

I've never seen his finished work, but considering how much time he took just to give me a quote for a fender roll made him seem like a good guy to me. He didn't act like a salesman. Instead of just telling me I needed my fenders rolled and how much it would cost, he taught me how he does the fender roll and looked over the car thouroughly, showing me where the tire was rubbing on the fender and how he would paint the car if the fender roll cracked the paint.

He seems like the type of guy that takes prides in his mods because he loves doing them.

I'll post what he still has in the shop after I talk to him, if the BMW is still there and Burnsville isn't too far for you, I would recommend swinging by with pictures or parts of the kit if posible. I'm sure he take at least the 15 minutes he took for me to look at your car, show you the projects he's working on and explain how he installs and paints the body kit instead of just qouting a price and leaving you to guess the quality of his work.

If you're on the north side of the cities, you may also want to visit Chop Shop Creations website at www.chopshopcreations.com (http://www.chopshopcreations.com)

If you like what you see on their website you may also want to try contacting them as well, although I must warn you they never answered my call or returned my email when I tried contacting them.

Turboricecooker,

Just got of the phone with Erick, he still has the E46 M3 I mentioned earlier in the shop. He is in the process of putting on a Rieger Full Body Kit.

He invited you to give him a call on his shop cell phone at 651-442-0768. Just tell him that Tom with the 325i needing the fenders rolled referred you and He will know exactly what your talking about and answer any questions you may have.

Since I live so close I may stop by the shop today with my digital camera and take some shots of the M3 and any other cars he might be working on and post them for the group to see.

Tom

thanks for checking that out, I'll give him a call. If you can stop by and check out the finish product of the M3 especially fitting and painting. Let me know what you think. I want to make sure when I pay $$ to paint and fitting. I want it done correctly especially fitting and matching the color of the entire car.

Again, thanks for doing that

Don't let some small shop paint and fit you body kit. Wait for Sears Imported Auto's in plymouth to get off strike. They are the best around. I have seen many things done by other places who claim to know what their doing and they eventually bring it to Sears to get it done right! I even heard Motorwerks sends their high end cars their instead of their own body shop.

Sorry guys, I'm anxious and have no patient to wait till strike is over. I know that Sears Imports Body Shop will get it done right, since it's their own shop and due to reputation along with experience in BMW paint and body works.

The closest hotel I'm aware of is the AmericInn in Apple Valley off the corner of Cedar Ave and County Rd 42. I believe the cheapest your going to get there is around $100 per night.

There is also a Holiday Inn Express in Eagan by the Junction of Hwy 77 (Cedar Ave) and 35E. Have no idea what the price is there.

You may just want to try a website like www.hotels.com to find the cheapest hotel/motel between you and near where the event is being held.

Because Apple Valley is only 10 miles south of the Mall of America, rooms tend to be a little overpriced in this area.

Where are some places to dyno your car in mn? And how muc do they roughly cost?

John Haley Motorsports in Apple Valley also has a DynoJet.

I Stopped by today:

$80 for a baseline reading

$150 per hour if you have you want more then a baseline and can DIY

$225-250 per hour if you want them to Dyno the car for you and do more then a baseline.

They also do performance mods.

Looks great Tanner. The Kosei's are a nice change of pace. Did you sell the DSII's? Looks like you swapped the Toyo's onto your Kosei's.
Seems like there are a high percentage of red cars in MN. Out here in the DC area most everyone has Silver, Black or White, so the red stands out more. Then again, there are a lot more naturally flashy cars here than in Mkto, so you still kinda blend in. Was tailing an Aston Martin Vanquish on the way home from work yesterday, not to shabby.
Pretty much anytime you can come out works for me, but I'll see if I can find some interesting events coming up.

How was BIR w/ NASA? Did you run in the TT's?

I ran TT. I ran a 1:56.686 on Saturday and on Sunday I got a 1:56.441. Mike Atlas ran about .3 seconds faster than me. I still have some learning to do.

Those are some good times, considering how hot it was last weekend. You're flying if you can keep Mike in sight!

What's next? MAM w/ the Iowa CCA? I want to go, but there's no way the car will be ready in time...

Those times were in the morning. By the afternoon it was really slick.

I am planning on MAM w/ Iowa CCA, if I get my car back together. The tranny is sitting on the garage floor. LWF and clutch should be delivered tomorrow. That means this weekend will be spent putting everything back together.

Did you get the CEL codes? You can stop by any autozone and they can hook up their OBD-II scanner to it and read the codes for you for free. If not, I also have a OBD-II scanner and also a Peake Code Reader.
