I'll be moving there this summer for grad school at BSU and I need to find a nice one bedroom apartment within 2 miles of campus. I need a safe and secure building and covered parking would be great. I have found several promising places but would like to hear your thoughts on these places since you are local and usually know what places to avoid.

Several places I am looking at are River Plaza, River Quarry, The Idaho Building, Civic Plaza, The Plaza Apartments (thats a lot of river and plaza names going on), and The Cambridge Dorchester. I want to know if these are places with good reputation before I waste a weekend up there just to find out that its a shithole. Also name any other places if you know of any as well.

River Quarry is nice, in a very good area and i think they should have a garage for your car. Civic Plaza is alright, seems to much like a giant hotel to me. Not so sure about leaving my car in their parking garage. River Plaza is a good area too. I'm pretty sure they have covered parking also.

I've also heard that Cambridge has good management and maintenance is on top of it.. If you need anymore info just pm me or i'll check this thread..

Theres some other good places too.. Dont know your price range though.

I'm budgeted to around $800 a month at most. So far River Plaza is on the top of my list. I just read some scary things about Civic Plaza and River Quarry though

I lived in River Quarry for nearly a year. Very nice place with many regulations. I had a garage, pool access, proximity to greenbelt, which is great for jogging, biking or walking.

The Civic Plaza seems like it would be very nice (I have never been inside), great location anyway, although you must have below a certain income.

The Idaho Building is a cool old place downtown, I have a friend that lives there and loves it, his place is very cool. Downside is your garage would be a large shared garage that anyone can wonder through.

I have not heard of River Plaza or the rest you mentioned. My nod goes to River Quarry.

I don't really have a huge issue with a shared garage as long as it has controlled access i.e. residents/guests only. Plus my Volvo isn't anything special and has its fair share of door dings, and I don't keep valuables in it either.

I think I just need to fly up there for a weekend and check places out myself(obviously) but damn thats a $400+ weekend

Luke - My best friend is a real estate agent in Boise. I can have her take care of you if you'd like.

Good to know you're moving this way; it'll be good to meet you finally!

Yeah, renting a place, sight unseen is usually a bad idea.
I would check out those three, and if you are not too worried about your volvo, any of those three would work.

I'm looking forward to meeting some people here in the NW, I may not have a BMW anymore but that doesn't mean I can't meet up with you guys and enjoy some car talk.

Also that'd be great to have your friend help me out even though the move is 7 or 8 months away

I am officially moving to Boise in the summer. But I will still be a Hawkeye, you all will have to just deal with that.

sounds good Ty. And seriously, where the hell are you these days? Tempe? Pullman? Portland?

Portland - sadly. Going to WSU-V to finish up.

It'll be back to the desert though.

still haven't decided but I've got 6 months to find a place and my friend who lives out there said I could stay with him for a bit since he has a 2 bedroom place. I'm thinking of just staying at his place when I make the move in June or July and then move to my own place closer to campus. Cheaper than flying back and forth on the weekends and whatnot and will allow me to get accustomed to the city.
