Hello all.

I have a 2000 328i.

I have been using Lexol leather cleaner and conditioner, and frankly, I'm not too thrilled with it.

Can anyone recommend a better product?

Thank you.

Leatherique is the bomb. That stuff made my seats look brand new. It is a totally different product than the others.

I use LEXOL products and have great results. I LEXOL the interior once a month to keep it new looking. My leather is 8 years old and looks new. How does LEXOL compare to Leatherueque or however you spell it? :dunno

TIA,
Joe

I use Leatherique every once and a while and then Meguiar's Cleaner/Conditioner for every detail. The Meguiar's stuff has aloe in it and make everything smell awesome!

What's the better choice?

1. Leatherique Rejuvinator/Prestine Clean
2. Connolly Leather Care Kit
3. Meguiar's (with aloe)

1. Leatherique Rejuvinator/Prestine Clean

I have used their products and I can't say enough good stuff about it. The only drawback to their product is the price, but to me it is worth it.

Man, old thread!

I just don't think that Lexol does a good job. That's the best I can put it.

It just doesn't seem to do much. Sure, the seats look and feel great for a few days after I apply it, but after that, they're back to how they always look.

Not that my seats are bad, really, but I think they could be better, and it seems that Leatherique would help.

I'm going to try it soon and I'll be sure to post feedback here. :)

try a plain old bar of saddle soap and a damp rag. From somebody who has spent many years cleaning riding tack and other horse related leather goods, theres nothing better than a bar of saddle soap.

Cleaners and conditioners won't remove the creases in the leather. A good cleaner may reduce the appearance of creases on lighter colored leathers since you'll be lifting the dirt out of them. The creases form where the leather flexes, just like the creases that form in your leather shoes.

If the leather surface actually contains cracks (e.g., the surface is broken), you may be able to reduce their appearance with a crack filler, like the kind made by Leatherique.

its not cracked, but i guess the creases ... but no leather is bending here..
its the side bolsters .. the upper part that hugs ur ribbs.

Nathan,

Unless you you're going to refinish the seat panels then there is nothing you can do to get rid of the wrinkles. Wrinkles are a naturally occuring characteristic of leather whether it's shoes or jackets or anything else. Wrinkles are a sign of use so I guess you could consider it cosmetic wear but they aren't going to become a functional issue like a tear unless you let the leather gets really dry. It traps grime but a good cleaner can remove it

If you do want to fix it you need a serious leather refinishing. Leatherique makes a filler that will smooth wrinkles. You're talking about probably a 20hr job to prep, fill, and refinish the leather yourself. Other you can buy replacement leather but the cost is BIG and it still requires substantial work to disassemle the seats and install the new leather.

Ultimately the leather will wrinkle again with use so I would stop worrying and enjoy the ride.

When working on your leather, how do you work in between the seats and console and plances like that. Just have at it? :)

Also, does anyone know what brand the BMW Leather Kit conditioner is (I assume it is rebadged?)

So what does everyone reccomend to soften up the leather? I think the leather in my car hasn't been treated in a while and is a lil stiff. There are no real cracks or tears or anything, but i would like to bring back the OEM feeling again. I have been using Gold Class Cleaner/Condition and it doesn't seem to do too much but make it smell good.

Uhhhh.....are you serious? Haven't you read this thread??

Leatherique seems to be the absolute best, based on every last word I've read about it and the pics I've seen posted here.

I've heard that the Connolly has an odd smell to it, and it makes your seats smell too.

Perhaps the people who've used it can comment.

I personally am going to get some leatherique soon.

If your leather needs to be resorted i say go with leatherique. If it needs to be maintained go with Connolly cleaner and conditioner. Connolly does have a smell if you sniff it from the jar but once it's applied to the seats and buffed off the smell is gone. The smell is no reason not to buy the product.

Just to repeat: Leatherique is da bomb. My 97 seats are WAY softer than when I got them.

But......If your leather feels like plastic and/or is discolored after cleaning or is bare in spots but isn't rigid you need to sand off thet old damaged dye and re-dye (paint) em. Leatherique sells a dye kit too.

This is the first time i've cleaned and conditioned the leather. I've had the car a little less then a year. I plan on doing it twice a year though..
