My friends 2001 e39 power seat (drivers side) does not work anymore. The adjustment for the steering doesn't work either. It used to automatically swing up and out of the way after the ignition is turned off. Fuses are good (13 & 21)
Anyone have a clue? :help
Thanks
Edwin

Did it just stop working or has it not been working for a while now? Reason I ask is I heard that sometimes if you hit the seat controls after removing the key, it freezes those functions until the next time you start the car and remove the key again. After that it'll work.

One quick thing he can try is resetting the seat memory settings by putting the key in position 2 of ignition and then pulling out fuse 13 and 21 and putting them back in.

If that doesn't work, then something is wrong with the seat switch/module in the driver's seat. This switch/module controls all seat adjust, memory settings and steering wheel controls.
Hope this helps

It just stopped working. The way I noticed was when I turned the car off the steering wheel usually would move up out of the way automatically. It just stopped doing that. Now the steering wheel up/down & in/out movement and the seat controls do not work. Neither does the memory buttons.
I'll try what you said to do and hopefully it will work.
Thanks for the response!

It's the seat memory module. ~$170 plus install

Go here for my thread on this exact problem http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=506192&highlight=seat+memory+module

Have you looked to see if the seat switch is unplugged. Often the left seat bolster is soft causing the wiring harness to disconnect from the switch.
