Neither the 2's or 3's, just the original ContiSportContacts on my new M Coupe. It appears most people do not like the tire at all, but after hearing the negatives, I am very surprised by the tire's performance. I know I am in the minority, but I find the tire to have very good grip, stopping power, and turn in, but I have not yet tracked the car. In the past I have had very sticky track and auto-x tires, and while the Contis are not that sticky, they match up very nicely with other high performance street tires I have had. I will now duck as the opposite views come in. EB The HACK 10-30-2007, 01:34 PM It's not your typical ContiSportContact I. It's the CSC I specially formulated for the M3s. I've driven about 10-12 events on these Conti's, they may not be the stickiest tires around but they're not nearly as bad as everyone claims. I've had a few passenger ask me at the track what sort of R-Comps I was using. :D One of my friends whom I gave a ride to was really pleasantly surprised because he knew I was still on my stock Contis. A word of advice on the Contis though. There's two distinct layers of compound, the top layer being the soft, grippy stuff, and there's an underneath layer once you wore through to the wear bar that's hard as hockey puck. Once you get to that layer, it'll basically stop wearing, the tires will make a ton of noise when driving on the street, and grip level goes to sh*t. Last event I was understeering nervously into turns, I was starting to wonder why my driving has gone to sh*t, then I pull into the pit to inspect the tires to find that the outer edge of the front tire has been completely worn off, and I got this weird soft tire---HARD HUMP---soft tire effect going on at the outside tire shoulder. I think one more event and my front tires are toast. Frustrat1on 10-30-2007, 01:48 PM Yeah, but you're you and I'm me... I could be on R comps and people would ask me how I was able to find four temp spares for a track day... What did you rate the tread wear? Reason here is I have a chance to snag a set for $425 complete (with 90+% of tread left) and will be replacing the coupe's (3si) existing run flats with them. (note I like the grip and cornering of the Bridgstones... Not the every day ride quality, but they don't suck when run up...) The slightly higher profile isn't a problem and I have aftermarket staggers that are the same size... The HACK 10-30-2007, 02:05 PM I've gone through an entire year on a single set of tires. I've never been able to do that before. It took me over 20 track days to wear through the Contis. How would I rate the tread wear? Excellent. Much better than I expected. If I do nothing but street driving, these tires will likely last me over 25,000-30,000 miles. tmachine 10-30-2007, 03:35 PM It's not your typical ContiSportContact I. Must be good driving! I have been pretty happy with them for general driving. I hated them for autox, but I use r-comps for that now. As a matter of fact, I am looking for someone's discards too. Maybe someone is replacing a near new set? Mine are almost gone at 9700 miles (+ 3 autoxs) and I would be happy to run them again. Decent wear and grippy enough for street. The HACK 10-31-2007, 02:54 PM Must be good driving! Nah. I think my passengers were just being kind. :D |
