View Full Version : Regular E36 dead pedal in Vert... How hard is it?
trayson 10-29-2007, 05:16 PM I know at least a couple of you have made a regular dead pedal fit into the E36 vert. How hard is it to do? what was necessary? Cutting? How did it look?
I've been thinking about the AC Schnitzer replica pedals that you see on Ebay (because I'm not paying hundreds and hundreds of dollars because AC has blessed it with their logo adding ZERO value). But I'm having a hard time finding ones that have the dead pedal for the cabrio...
Let me know what any of you have done...
bigbilly 10-29-2007, 05:39 PM I have had a set of pedals forever that I haven't bothered to install for this very reason.
I was told to get a grinder, and own one but haven't taken the time to grind the dead pedal down.
The hardest part as I see it is creating some sort of template to match the current shape. I'm anal enough that gaps would drive me nuts.
I can't imagine it's impossible. It's just that I haven't bothered to date...
trayson 10-29-2007, 05:43 PM Yeah, I know that Kosta's done it. Maybe he'll chime in...
MParallel 10-29-2007, 06:30 PM You might want to buy a set for a RHD version as they have the dead pannel against the tranny tunnel and the bottem half is also at an angle. Not sure if it's a one on one fit, but will be less hustle and no extra pennies to get a "cab" set.
btw, I found out BMW does OEM alu and stainless steel sets for e46 CSL and e9x models. Since BMW pedal design has been the same for the last 30 years, it'll fit, so you might consider that if you're into OEM like me.

Well, you can probably tell simply from my wheels that I'm nowhere near the OEM guy that you are. :stickoutt
But if using an E46 model would be the same, that might be a good way to go, because I've found these:

You can see that this one has a more angled side to it that might make it work better. (although I think the angle on our verts is PRETTY dramtic and seems to be even more agressive than the one pictured above...)
Oh, and I think it's pretty funny that they've photoshopped out the AC Schnitzer logo to try to hide their obvious trademark infringement.
MParallel 10-29-2007, 06:54 PM They did a bad job! Why not blur the logo completely!
I saw the original carbon fiber AC Schnitzer dead pedal. Lucky me they don't do a vert version as it would mean more money to throw away!

I think they did that intentionally... because you can tell that the logo's there and will probably be there on the product that you end up buying... Just enough to cover their butts, but not so much that people wouldn't see that they're going to get the "knock off" when they buy it.
I have been tempted to go carbon fiber instead of the aluminum...
I really want to find the AC Schnitzer (replica) dash trim piece that would compliment the pedals and e-brake handle. But I can't find it anymore.
I can find plenty of carbon fiber dash trim pieces (I saw yours and am not willing to spend the money you did for the genuine BMW piece). But If I went that way, I'd need to get the carbon fiber e-brake handle and probably the carbon fiber pedals. Something like this:

hmmm... Carbon fiber vs. aluminum on a triple black cabrio.
And to complicate things, I have to factor in the Momo shift knob I've got:

Gotta make sure everything blends and the styles don't clash.
MParallel 10-29-2007, 08:01 PM You can have your console/strip wrapped in CF. Andy (See styling forum) does amazing jobs.
He wraps everything.
I was also after genuine AC S CF, but these parts have been out of production for years, are genuinely rare and if you can find them...$$$$$ more than OEM BMW.
AC S also did CF strips for the doors.
palomino 11-01-2007, 06:18 PM ha, i have a set of ACS pedals that have been sitting around in my garage for about 2 years now. i dont even like the aluminum pedal look anymore.
i didnt even realize the deadpedal wouldn't fit right.
all the more reason to sell them, i guess.
pahhhoul 12-07-2007, 03:34 PM have you installed your dead pedal already?
if so, would you do a write up?
thanks,
Paul
trayson 12-07-2007, 04:13 PM I decided that grinding off a regular E36 dead pedal was more work that I wanted.
I sold mine to my brother in law to use on his 5 series.
