View Full Version : Can't Aim Depos because of foggy lenses
lilmanmgf 10-28-2007, 07:30 PM I am attempting to aim my Depos, but fog and condensation inside the lenses is preventing me from doing so. This morning I loosened the two bolts to the point where I could move my headlights by pushing on them. I then let the car sit with the lights on to attempt to break in the lights and get rid of the condensation as others have done before. After a couple hours half of the condensation infront of the lows was gone, and just about all was gone in front of the highs.
I had to go out for a couple hours so I shut my car off figuring that when I got home it would be dark enough to aim my HIDs. Well now that I'm home just about all the condensation is back and now there is a thick fog to boot. Please tell me what I'm missing, because right now my projectors don't even have a cut off.
zx7rhitch 10-28-2007, 07:42 PM These new headlights? Where did you get them?Id fix the condensation problem first.....untill you do there is no point even trying to aim them.
backtrail69 10-28-2007, 07:51 PM Sell that junk and buy real lights. Depo is exactly what you pay for.. But to fix them you are going to have to remove the lenses and re seal them. Possibly looking for any other places where moisture can enter.
ESMcBlurM3 10-28-2007, 07:52 PM Similar problem. My depo's just started to fog on me the other day. I've had them for about 2 months now, and didn't have any problems until recently. It's just the passenger side I'm having problems with. Loosening the mount bolts did nothing for me.

Depos are not junk period.....you have no factual evidence to back up your statement....there 1000 and 1000s of happy depo customers.Speak about what you know and not some crap you made up becuase you have nothing else to do with your time:mad

that is a subpar depo, thats what happens when you buy from someone that has no clue on how to build them and sell inferior ebay quality headlights.
you are missing clips and they dont seem to be sealed.
loosning the bolts will not help you much..

You dont have all your clips on securing your lens

the back covers have to be off for a day or two and they have to be installed and torqued properly. condensation will not disappear in 2 hours.

Thats what I'm looking for! Do I remove just the high beam cover or the low too?

If this is happening because "Depos are junk" then why do I see ZKW owners posting with similar problems? I posted this because I know there is an intial break in period, and I wanted to know if there were any additional steps which could help rectify the problem more quickly.
habbie 10-28-2007, 08:26 PM Thats what I'm looking for! Do I remove just the high beam cover or the low too?
both. more importantly is torquing them properly and allowing them to break in.

Damn, I just noticed that. I wonder if they came like that, or if I lost a clip along the way. Is it possible to purchase a clip? The clips really seem loose and feel like they don't do much.

I'm not thrilled. So what's the remedy, short of purchasing a new lamp. Why is it my driver's side is fine, just luck?

You may be able to bend them a little inorder to tighten them up......:)

Heat them up and reseal them would be my guess. If they are not sealed correctly after th AE are installed they will leak
You could clean them up sell them on ebay and buy some of Habbies new DJ autos and you wouldnt be out much at all......Just and idea, good luck

I don't think they should have ever been opened in the first place - as the only thing I had pre-installed was the HID.

i have dealt with 6 or 7 customers who have had various issues with these lights, 2 of which were sent in for repairs, im not sure what your problem is but i would look and make sure that they are properly sealed, they dont look to be.
while you may have saved a few bucks up front you may be into a world of fun (as im sure you already have) with these cheaper lights, i truly hope it all works out for you.
in the quest to save a few $$ we sometimes lose track of the simple fact that there's always a reason why its so cheap in the first place, and it ain't the quality and workmanship.
you can pm or email me if you need some one on one help, i may be able to help you pinpoint the problem.
lilmanmgf 10-30-2007, 07:54 PM Depos are crap huh? After following Habbie's advice, removing the cover and detorquing the bolts, the lenses are crystal clear after one day of driving! I can see a couple drops at the very bottom of the lense, but I'm sure that will clear up by the end of tomorrow. Onto the next order of buisness. How to I horizontally aim my lights? It seems the only way to center the driverside cutoff is to move the entire headlight, but It doesn't look right in this position. Is there a way to just move the projector?

yes there is, there's an adjuster behind the low beam cover, use an allen key to move it side to side.
ESMcBlurM3 10-30-2007, 08:16 PM Taking off the back covers (highbeam only ofcourse due to HID) helps this cause? Do you keep it off while driving around, or just leave it off for good?
QuickSilv3r 10-30-2007, 08:24 PM I always left the high beam cover off of both my DEPO's and I never had a fog issue.

Yeah, I took off the high beam cover and drove around for the day.

Ok. I adjusted the top mounting screws today. I'll drive this little trick tomorrow.
euro96 10-30-2007, 09:00 PM damn that looks bad...
i have depos and have taken them apart too many times to count, and they never fog up on me.....

Hmmmm you are full of great information.
My Depos from understeer(*edit - put umnitza for some reason... brain fart) have worked fine for going on 2 years now. No fog, no water, no broke tabs, no broken adjusters. Nothing.
Maybe I got "lucky".

the seal, clips and bolts aren't going to solve your issue, that much water in a headlight is a sure sign of a defect, its what you get from ebay lighting.

I did not purchase from ebay. I purchased from a reputable vendor of the forums.
D Unit 10-31-2007, 02:08 PM i bought my non-sealed Depos from Ebay and they don't fog. wait, i take that back. i once installed them in such a way that caused them to fog because my lights weren't lined up correctly. but once i realigned them to the car, they never fogged after that. just my 2 cents.
