View Full Version : Help: what kind of headlight is this?
BigTex 10-28-2007, 03:29 PM My driver's side turn signal shook loose recently and exited the vehicle at speed, and when I looked at how it had come loose, I discovered that the two channels that hold it against the headlight so the clip secures it had blown out (see pic HL5 below). So I bought a new set of signals and a take-out headlight from a forum member, and today I went to swap over the lights, brackets, lenses, etc.
Here is the surprise: the lights in my car look nothing like the BMW parts I found in Real OEM and bought on the forum. Can someone look at these pics and tell me 1) What kind of lights I have and 2) How can I get a new set? When I went to install the new signal on the passenger side, it turns out the housing on that one is in the same condition--but someone has glued the signal into the car somehow, so I'm planning to do that one next.
I am *really* hoping there is a way to replace the housing around the lens (which is glass vs. the stock plastic) without buying whole new pieces. Something tells me I'm not going to find a used one on the forum for thirty bucks... :(
Bonus question: what should be plugged into the empty socket in the upper/inside reflector in the file HL1? Am I missing a key piece or is that the jack for the flux capacitor...?
Thanks a lot,
Noah
habbie 10-28-2007, 03:39 PM those are the old DjAuto headlights.
you can attach the corners via the "zip tie method" (search) or you can buy a new set of headlights, we have the new DjAuto for $105 plus shipping, not bad for a new set of headlights.
BigTex 10-28-2007, 03:49 PM Sold. PM me ordering information and I'll PayPal the funds as soon as possible.
I don't suppose there is a secondary market for these? If anyone would like to pick up a damaged pair cheap, let me know.
Also, I now have a stock driver's side headlight assembly for sale if anyone needs one. 8^)
Thanks again,
Noah

i suggest you get stoneguards to protect the glass lens on these.
BigTex 10-28-2007, 03:59 PM Wow--more options than a sushi bar at happy hour...
1) Is there a way to find out which of those options I have now?
2) Will I be able to disassemble the ones I have now and swap out the lights around the rim of the bulbs, etc., or do I have to order new ones?
Thanks again,
Noah

1. by the looks of it you only have angel eyes and they look to be the dim and old led style.
2. i guess you could buy why would you? you can add a new set of the best and brightest angel eyes and the best part is we preinstall it for you.
BigTex 10-28-2007, 04:24 PM Fair enough. Thanks so much for your help!
Take care,
Noah
bmw buddy 10-28-2007, 08:03 PM what's the difference between the dj's and the depo's
habbie 10-28-2007, 08:04 PM what's the difference between the dj's and the depo's
price and the output is a bit off compare to the depo, it is however on par with anything not depo out there and then some.
BigTex 11-04-2007, 11:44 AM Thanks again for your help Habbie, I received the replacements this week, and they look great. I have a question though: are the bulbs included somewhere in the packaging that I've not found yet, or do I need to reuse the bulbs from my old lights? I can send you a pic if it would help.
Thank you,
Noah

You're going to need to re-use your other bulbs. Bulbs and such normally aren't sent by retailers unless you specifically ask and pay for them.

Noah,
it depends on which bulbs you had, if you had stock headlights (9006) then no they wont fit, you'll need 4 h1 bulbs available in any parts store.
