I have read vague reports recently about both BMW and Dinan imminently releasing performance parts (exhaust, intake, tuning, etc.) for the M. I have been unable to find any confirmation or specific data and was wondering if anyone knows when these products will become available. Heres hoping for some credence in these new offerings as I'm sure all of us M owners are!

I would speculate that whatever they come out with for the E85/6 M will be simular to what they put out for the E46 M, so don't get your hopes up too high.

There will be no BMW offerings for aftermarket support on the ///M. BMW's performance parts catalog only has parts for the plain-Jane versions of the E46 and some E90 parts.

As for other aftermarket support, the MZ4 isn't exactly a brand new model. The engine is the same as the E46 M3, the suspension is a combination of E36 M3 and E46 M3 parts, the front LCA is from the E46 ZHP/320i race chassis, the rear swaybar comes from the E46 M3 CSL (for the coupe). You can buy stuff for each of the respective models and mix and match it on the MZ4. The only thing that is "unique" and no aftermarket support exist for, is ECU update, and there probably will never be a big enough market for someone to actually tackle that.

I may call tomorrow to see if there's any plans for such a product.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if the Shark Injector works for the E86 but not the E36/7/8 S54.

Well, it was a poorly worded post on my part. I should have typed "...the Turner site shows support only for the MZ3 S54..." or, in other words, nada for the MZ4.

So do you guys expect an offering from Dinan akin to the M3's stage 3 setup making 355hp?

From what I've heard from Izzy, Dinan's Z4 M components should be coming out in the first half of 2008. CAI, exhaust and software is expected.

Of course, if you don't want to wait for exhaust, there is always THIS (http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=240193).

Seems the S54 just hates bolt-ons.

-Dinan products do not let you "keep" your new car warranty. Dinan gives you their own warranty stating that they will cover anything not covered by BMW over the duration of your OEM warranty. So it's two warranties working in parallel. If a certain BMW dealer wants to be a dick (and this HAS happened to me), they can deny you warranty repairs because of Dinan parts, or any one else's. But with Dinan, you can then have an authorized Dinan installer do the repairs under Dinan's warranty.

It is also important though, to remember the Moss Magnussen act. I can't quote it verbatum, but the gist of it is that it is unlawful for a dealer to refuse warranty repairs due to non-stock components unless they can prove that the specific problem was caused by said components.

I actually had a fairly big cam/valve issue at 46k miles with my '97 Z3 2.8 with all the Dinan engine goodies, and my BMW dealer didn't even blink about it. Took them over a month to figure it out, but they never even mentioned anything about the Dinan stuff. The even added 5k miles to my engine warranty.

It may have helped that the dealer was also a Dinan dealer.:D Anyway when I asked (after it was fixed) they said 1) the Dinan stuff wasn't the problem; and 2) if the Dinan stuff HAD caused the problem, they would have worked it out with Dinan behind the scenes.

-Which is exactly what they are SUPPOSED to do. My dealership left me with a non-drivable car in their parking lot telling me that they wouldn't warranty it because while they are a Dinan dealer they weren't the original installer. Get to know your dealership!

The software for the MZ4 version of the S54 is completely different than the MZ3 version. It is not something that can be used on both cars because the ECU in the MZ4 is a totally different version (MSS70).

DINAN does have an aftermarket exhaust in a prototype stage for the MZ4 Roadster/Coupe, but last I heard good 'ole Steve himself was not pleased with the sound of the unit and they are working on it still to produce the sound he believe will be "perfect".
