2007 Z4 Coupe, Sport Package, Premium Package, Heated seats. Monaco Blue, Beige Interior, 6 speed manual.

It's beautiful...I love the colors....has the right options...the right price (10K off MSRP)...but it has 670 "demo" miles on it.

Should I be concerned about the lack of a proper engine break-in period?

When you demo'd the car you bought, how did you drive it?

If you plan on keeping the car to 100k+ miles I wouldnt buy it. If you are going to be selling it before teh 50k mark go for. Anyway, its a really good deal.

There's a thread currently (last day or two) on the main forums regarding Break In periods, with differing thoughts on pros and cons of either following the manual or beating hell out of it. At your current mileage, you're still in that 'break-in' period.

I test drove every variety of the Z4--M's, 3.0s and 3.0si's before making my choice. Drove each as if it were going to be the vehicle I'd purchase, and pushed only enough to get an idea of whether I liked and could live with it, not whether I could set a record with it at the Nurburgring.

When I got my car there are orange groves around the dealership. The 1st 2 we test drove as always the salesman drove it out the lot and down into the groves. He beat the crap out of both on the long straight away before pulling over and letting me drive. I did not need to then thrash the car but just drive it to get a feel for it. The car I did buy had a dead battery on the lot with 7 miles on it. They asked me if I wanted to test drive that one and I declined and had them detail it and charge the battery and drove it home. BUT, those 7 miles may have been hard ones. One of the reasons I did a break in oil change at 1800 miles. Just made me feel better, probably did not make a difference in the world though. Oh and he did say to me that the reason he drove the cars out in the groves fast like that was because customers who came in buying M's wanted to really see what they were getting for their money. Whatever.

I do not think that "high mileage" has any affect on overall car reliability and life time. Simple nobody wants slightly used wife as slightly used car. However we should be more tolerant to cars.

There are polar opinions regarding break-in - and I'm most guilty. All my cars are strictly by the book. But - my sportbikes... Wide-open and bouncing-off redline from day-1. Go figure.

Buy the car, already. It's a tremendous deal.

Good point. I find that BMW's are made to handle quite a bit, so even if it was abused, some TLC can make it just like new.

KPACOTKA (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/member.php?u=10177), I must say I highly respect you. You really know your stuff! Keep up the good work!

I went to my local BMW dealer today to show my girlfriend the 2007 Z4 coupe. (The other car from my original post is at a BMW dealer near were I work, about an hour away) They had one that had $2200 more in options than the first car, but using the leverage that I could always buy the other car, I got an even better deal.

1. Premium package
2. Sport package
3. Extended leather
4. M Sport seats
5. Heated seats
6. Stratus Gray Metallic

MSRP: $47,900. My price: Invoice minus 7500: $36,770...about $1200 more than the first car, but the best part is that this car only has 160 "demo" miles. Much better.

I had to sleep on it, not because of the deal, its a killer deal, but this is the most money I have ever spent on a car. A very impractical, but fun car at that!

I will call Monday morning to seal the deal.

I just bought almost the same car for $37K with 12 miles on it. I'm real happy with it and felt I got a great deal. This is my first new car ever. Go ahead and buy it!!! It's such a fun car to drive, it's worth it and everybody stares at it....
