Don't know about the UK, but I'd imagine they're simialr to our laws in the US. They're a 'show only' type of mod. They're illegal to run while in motion and (Americans) will be pulled over and ticketed if being used while on the street.

I was kinda hoping to be the first to say something along the lines of "Illegal because they're gay."

Because they really are.

Evo to 325? Foolish move.

why? i went from a 12 second sti to a '01 330ci & i'm happy.. evo's are junk anyway.

and if you want an underglow kit.. go for it. they are illegal in the states.. especially if they are red or blue.. and you will get flammed a lot on these forums and in person for having it. but its your car..

Fine if they're that gay, what would you reccomend i should spend the money on? It has to be in the catergory of lights though, and must drop straight in on a BMW 323i 1998/1999.

Thanks

why does it have the be lights? go put some strobes & blue/red flashers in your headlights and start your own cannonball run!

I've seen them done well. Such as when you open the door they come on helping to light up the floor so you don't step into a puddle or something.

If you are talking about underglo, then they are illegal in many places (including Canada).

If you want to use LED lights for curtecy lights that would be all right. If you plan to leave it on when the car is in motion, I suggest you trade your BMW for a Civic or equivalent.

jlevi sells puddle lights, they're a much classier alternative to underglow. But again, it still only works on a very well show-modded car.

I think they are required in Puerto Rico.

If you plan on lowering the car, the first speed bump will probably break a light bar anyway. In my opinion, it's a lot of hassle and you will probably get ridiculed a lot for it. I have seen it done well though, on many different cars. It's your car though, whatever you decide post some pictures and keep us posted.

Personal opinion - Angel eyes and HID. More money to get HID than neons, but hey it's a good start.

They are illegal only if you can see the light source.

Say for a neon tube, if you can see it, it's illegal. If it's tucked up under the car, so you can only see the light on the floor, it's legal.

Personally, I'd get either angel eyes, or HIDs.

Angel eyes are around £80, from Chromeline Design, and HID's are £40 from eBay.

Underglow is officially the worst modification you could make to your car. Don't waste your cash, buy something decent like some subtle Angel eyes.

If you still want to fit underglow, you may want to read this legislation Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 (http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si1989/Uksi_19891796_en_3.htm)

If you only listen to the guys on this forum you will never have any of the cool mods on your car because they are haters. Get the neons and then go Forced Induction with the Turbonator. After you do that cut your springs for a nice drop and get some 20's.

If you need help modding get McDani to give you the good suggestions. Stay Fly Yo!
